Exodus 17
1 The whole community of the Israelites journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, following Yahweh's instructions. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.
Y toda la compañía de los hijos de Israel partió del desierto de Sin por sus jornadas, al mandamiento de Jehová, y asentaron el campo en Rafidim, y no había agua para que el pueblo bebiese.
2 So the people blamed Moses for their situation and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”
Y riñó el pueblo con Moisés, y dijeron: Dádnos agua, que bebamos. Y Moisés les dijo: ¿Por qué reñis conmigo? ¿Por qué tentáis a Jehová?
3 The people were very thirsty, and they complained against Moses. They said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt? To kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?”
Así que el pueblo tuvo allí sed de agua, y murmuró contra Moisés, y dijo: ¿Por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto, para matarnos de sed a nosotros y a nuestros hijos, y a nuestros ganados?
4 Then Moses cried out to Yahweh, “What should I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
Entonces Moisés clamó a Jehová diciendo: ¿Qué haré con este pueblo? De aquí a un poco me apedrearán.
5 Yahweh said to Moses, “Go on ahead of the people, and take with you some elders of Israel. Take with you the staff with which you struck the river, and go.
Y Jehová dijo a Moisés: Pasa delante del pueblo; y toma contigo de los ancianos de Israel, y toma también en tu mano tu vara, con que heriste el río, y vé:
6 I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you will strike the rock. Water will come out of it for the people to drink.” Then Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
He aquí que yo estoy delante de ti allí sobre la peña en Horeb: y herirás la peña, y saldrán de ella aguas, y beberá el pueblo. Y Moisés lo hizo así en presencia de los ancianos de Israel.
7 He called that place Massah and Meribah because of the Israelites' complaining, and because they had tested the Lord by saying, “Is Yahweh among us or not?”
Y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar, Massa y Meriba, por la rencilla de los hijos de Israel; y porque tentaron a Jehová, diciendo: ¿Si está Jehová entre nosotros, o no?
8 Then an army of the Amalek people came and attacked Israel at Rephidim.
Y vino Amalec, y peleó con Israel en Rafidim.
9 So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some men and go out. Fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”
Y dijo Moisés a Josué: Escógenos varones, y sal, pelea con Amalec: mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre del collado, y la vara de Dios en mi mano.
10 So Joshua fought Amalek as Moses had instructed, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
E hizo Josué como le dijo Moisés, peleando con Amalec: y Moisés, y Aarón, y Jur subieron a la cumbre del collado.
11 While Moses was holding his hands up, Israel was winning; when he let his hands rest, Amalek would begin to win.
Y era que como alzaba Moisés su mano, Israel prevalecía; mas como él abajaba su mano, prevalecía Amalec.
12 When Moses' hands became heavy, Aaron and Hur took a stone and put it under him for him to sit on. At the same time, Aaron and Hur held his hands up, one person on one side of him, and the other person on the other side. So Moses' hands were held steady until the sun went down.
Y las manos de Moisés eran pesadas, y tomaron una piedra, y pusiéronla debajo de él, y él se sentó sobre ella; y Aarón y Jur sustentaban sus manos, el uno de una parte y el otro de otra, y hubo en sus manos firmeza hasta que se puso el sol.
13 So Joshua defeated the people of Amalek with the sword.
Y Josué deshizo a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.
14 Yahweh said to Moses, “Write this in a book and read it in Joshua's hearing, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under the skies.”
Y Jehová dijo a Moisés: Escribe esto por memoria en el libro, y pon en oídos de Josué; que rayendo raeré del todo la memoria de Amalec de debajo del cielo.
15 Then Moses built an altar and he called it “Yahweh is my banner.”
Y Moisés edificó altar, y llamó su nombre Jehová-nissi:
16 He said, “For a hand was lifted up to the throne of Yahweh—that Yahweh will wage war with Amalek from generation to generation.”
Y dijo: Porque la mano sobre el trono de Jehová, que Jehová tendrá guerra con Amalec, de generación en generación.
