Deuteronomy 5
1 Moses called to all Israel and said to them, “Listen, Israel, to the statutes and the decrees that I will speak in your ears today, that you may learn them and keep them.
Moisés convocó a todo Israel y le dijo: “Oye, Israel, las leyes y los preceptos que hoy intimo a vuestros oídos, aprendedlos y guardadlos para ponerlos en práctica.
2 Yahweh our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.
Yahvé, nuestro Dios, hizo con nosotros alianza en el Horeb.
3 Yahweh did not make this covenant with our ancestors, but with us, all of us alive here today.
No con nuestros padres hizo Yahvé esta alianza, sino con nosotros, que hoy todos estamos aquí y todavía vivimos.
4 Yahweh spoke with you face to face on the mount out of the middle of the fire
Cara a cara habló Yahvé con vosotros en el monte, desde en medio del fuego,
5 (I stood between Yahweh and you at that time, to reveal to you his word; for you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up the mountain). Yahweh said,
—yo estaba entonces entre Yahvé y vosotros, para comunicaros la palabra de Yahvé; porque teníais miedo del fuego y no subisteis al monte— Dijo así:
6 'I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
‘Yo soy Yahvé, tu Dios, que te saqué de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de la servidumbre.
7 You will have no other gods before me.
No tendrás otros dioses delante de Mí.
8 You will not make for yourself a carved figure nor any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water below.
No te harás estatua o imagen alguna de cuanto hay arriba en el cielo, ni de cuanto hay abajo en la tierra, ni de lo que se halla en las aguas debajo de la tierra;
9 You will not bow down to them or serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God. I punish the ancestors' wickedness by bringing punishment on the children, to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
no las adorarás ni les darás culto, porque Yo, Yahvé, tu Dios, soy un Dios celoso, que castigo la iniquidad de los padres en los hijos, hasta la tercera y cuarta generación de los que me aborrecen,
10 and showing covenant faithfulness to thousands, to those who love me and keep my commandments.
y que uso de misericordia hasta mil generaciones de los que me aman y guardan mis mandamientos.
11 You will not take the name of Yahweh your God in vain, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain.
No tomarás en vano el nombre de Yahvé, tu Dios, porque Yahvé no dejará impune al que tomare su nombre en vano.
12 Observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as Yahweh your God commanded you.
Guarda el día de sábado para santificarlo, como te lo ha mandado Yahvé, tu Dios.
13 For six days you will labor and do all your work;
Seis días trabajarás, y harás todo tu trabajo;
14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God. On it you will not do any work—not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor any foreigner who is within your gates. This is so that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.
mas el día séptimo es día de descanso consagrado a Yahvé, tu Dios, no hagas trabajo alguno, ni tú, ni tu hijo, ni tu hija, ni tu siervo, ni tu sierva, ni tu buey, ni tu asno, ni ninguna bestia tuya, ni el extranjero que mora dentro de tus puertas para que descanse tu siervo y tu sierva como tú.
15 You will call to mind that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm. Therefore Yahweh your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
Acuérdate de que fuiste siervo en el país de Egipto y que Yahvé, tu Dios, te sacó de allí con mano fuerte y con brazo extendido; por eso Yahvé, tu Dios, te ha mandado guardar el día de sábado.
16 Honor your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God has commanded you to do, that you may live a long time in the land that Yahweh your God gives you, and so that it may go well with you.
Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, como te ha mandado Yahvé, tu Dios, para que vivas largo tiempo y te vaya bien sobre la tierra que Yahvé, tu Dios, te va a dar.
17 You will not murder.
No matarás.
18 You will not commit adultery.
No cometerás adulterio.
19 You will not steal.
No hurtarás.
20 You will not give false witness against your neighbor.
No dirás falso testimonio contra tu prójimo.
21 You will not covet your neighbor's wife, you will not covet your neighbor's house, his field, or his male servant, or his female servant, his ox, or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.'
No codiciarás la mujer de tu prójimo, ni desearás la casa de tu prójimo, ni su campo, ni su siervo, ni su sierva, ni su buey, ni su asno, ni cosa alguna que sea de tu prójimo.’
22 These words Yahweh spoke in a loud voice to all your assembly on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness; he did not add any more words. He wrote them down on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
Estas son las palabras que Yahvé, con poderosa voz, dirigió a toda vuestra asamblea en el monte, desde el fuego, la nube y las tinieblas; y no añadió más. Las escribió sobre dos tablas de piedra, las cuales Él me entregó.
23 It came about, when you heard the voice out of the middle of the darkness, while the mountain was burning, that you came near to me—all your elders and the heads of your tribes.
Mas vosotros, cuando oísteis la voz de en medio de las tinieblas, mientras el monte estaba en llamas, os acercasteis a mí, todos los jefes de las tribus y vuestros ancianos,
24 You said, 'Look, Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the middle of the fire; we have seen today that when God speaks with people, they can live.
y me dijisteis: ‘Mira, Yahvé, nuestro Dios, nos ha manifestado su gloria y su grandeza, y hemos oído su voz de en medio del fuego. Hoy hemos visto a Dios hablar con el hombre, sin que este haya perdido la vida.
25 But why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of Yahweh our God any longer, we will die.
Ahora, pues, ¿por qué hemos de morir devorados por este gran fuego? Pues si seguimos oyendo la voz de Yahvé, nuestro Dios, moriremos.
26 For who besides us is there among all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speak out of the middle of the fire and lived, as we have done?
Porque ¿quién de todos los hombres ha oído la voz de Dios vivo hablando de en medio del fuego, como nosotros, y no ha perdido la vida?
27 As for you, you should go and listen to everything that Yahweh our God says; repeat to us everything that Yahweh our God says to you; we will listen to it and obey it.'
Acércate tú, y oye todo lo que dijere Yahvé, nuestro Dios; y tú nos comunicarás todo cuanto Yahvé, nuestro Dios, te indique, y nosotros lo oiremos y cumpliremos.’
28 Yahweh heard your words when you spoke to me. He said to me, 'I have heard the words of this people, what they said to you. What they said was good.
Oyó Yahvé la voz de vuestras palabras cuando me hablabais, y dijo Yahvé: ‘He oído el son de las palabras que este pueblo te ha dicho; está bien todo lo que dicen.
29 Oh, that there were such a heart in them, that they would honor me and always keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their children forever!
¡Ojalá que siempre tengan este sentir, para que me teman y guarden en todo tiempo todos mis mandamientos, a fin de que sean felices ellos y sus hijos para siempre!
30 Go say to them, “Return to your tents.”
Anda y diles: Retiraos a vuestras tiendas.
31 But as for you, stand here by me, and I will tell you all the commandments, the statutes, and the decrees that you will teach them, so that they may keep them in the land that I will give them to possess.'
Pero tú quédate aquí conmigo, y Yo te diré todos los mandamientos, leyes y preceptos que les has de enseñar, para que los pongan por obra en la tierra que les voy a dar en herencia.’
32 You will keep, therefore, what Yahweh your God has commanded you; you will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
Poned, pues, cuidado en cumplir lo que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, os ha mandado. No declinéis ni a la diestra ni a la izquierda.
33 You will walk in all the ways that Yahweh your God has commanded you, so that you may live, and so that it may go well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
Seguid en todo el camino que Yahvé, vuestro Dios, os ha mandado, para que viváis y prosperéis y tengáis larga vida en la tierra que vais a heredar.
