Amos 7
1 This is what the Lord Yahweh showed me. Look, he formed a locust swarm when the spring crop began to come up, and, look, it was the late crop after the king's harvest.
Telle fut la vision qu'offrit à ma vue le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Voici, Il fit naître des sauterelles au commencement de la crue du regain, et voici, le regain poussait après les fenaisons du roi;
2 When they finished eating the vegetation of the land, then I said, “Lord Yahweh, please forgive; how will Jacob survive? For he is so small.”
et quand elles eurent entièrement dévoré l'herbe de la terre, je dis: Ah! pardonne, Seigneur Éternel! Comment Jacob tiendra-t-il? car il est chétif.
3 Yahweh relented concerning this. “It will not happen,” he said.
L'Éternel se repentit de cela. Cela n'arrivera pas, dit l'Éternel.
4 This is what the Lord Yahweh showed me: Look, the Lord Yahweh called on fire to judge. It dried the vast, deep water under the earth and would have devoured the land, also.
Telle fut la vision qu'offrit à ma vue le Seigneur, l'Éternel. Voici, le Seigneur, l'Éternel appela le feu pour punir, et le feu dévora le grand abîme, et dévora le champ.
5 But I said, “Lord Yahweh, please stop; how will Jacob survive? For he is so small.”
Alors je dis: Ah! Seigneur, Éternel, arrête! Comment Jacob tiendra-t-il? car il est chétif.
6 Yahweh relented concerning this, “This also will not happen,” said the Lord Yahweh.
L'Éternel se repentit de cela. Cela non plus n'arrivera pas, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
7 This is what he showed me: Look, the Lord stood beside a wall, with a plumb line in his hand.
Telle fut la vision qu'il offrit à ma vue. Voici, le Seigneur était debout sur une muraille tombant à plomb, et dans sa main Il avait un plomb.
8 Yahweh said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Look, I will put a plumb line among my people Israel. I will spare them no longer.
Et l'Éternel me dit: Que vois-tu, Amos? Et je dis: Un plomb. Et le Seigneur dit: Voici, je ferai passer un plomb par-dessus mon peuple d'Israël; désormais je ne lui pardonnerai plus,
9 The high places of Isaac will be destroyed, the sanctuaries of Israel will be ruined, and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”
et les hauteurs d'Isaac seront ravagées, et les sanctuaires d'Israël dévastés, et je me lèverai contre la maison de Jéroboam avec l'épée.
10 Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent a message to Jeroboam, king of Israel: “Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.
Alors Amatsia, prêtre de Béthel, fit dire à Jéroboam, roi d'Israël: Amos conspire contre toi au sein de la maison d'Israël; le pays ne peut supporter tous ses discours;
11 For this is what Amos said, 'Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will surely go into exile away from his land.'”
car ainsi a parlé Amos: Jéroboam périra par l'épée, et Israël sera emmené captif loin de son pays.
12 Amaziah said to Amos, “Seer, go, run back to the land of Judah, and there eat bread and prophesy.
Cependant Amatsia dit à Amos: Voyant, va-t'en, fuis au pays de Juda, et manges-y ton pain et y prophétise!
13 But do not prophesy anymore here at Bethel, for it is the king's sanctuary and a royal house.”
Mais à Béthel ne prophétise pas davantage, car c'est un sanctuaire royal, et une résidence royale.
14 Then Amos said to Amaziah, “I am not a prophet nor a prophet's son. I am a herdsman, and I take care of sycamore fig trees.
Alors Amos répondit et dit à Amatsia: Je ne suis point prophète, ni fils de prophète, mais un berger, et je cultive des sycomores;
15 But Yahweh took me from tending the flock and said to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.'
et l'Éternel m'a fait quitter les troupeaux, et l'Éternel m'a dit: Va prophétiser contre mon peuple d'Israël.
16 Now hear the word of Yahweh. You say, 'Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not speak against the house of Isaac.'
Or maintenant, écoute la parole de l'Éternel. Tu dis: « Ne prophétise plus contre Israël, et ne parle plus contre la maison d'Isaac! »
17 Therefore this is what Yahweh says, 'Your wife will be a prostitute in the city; your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword; your land will be measured and divided up; you will die in an unclean land, and Israel will surely go into exile from his land.'”
c'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Éternel: Ta femme sera violée dans la ville, et tes fils et tes filles périront par l'épée, et ton pays sera partagé au cordeau, et toi tu mourras sur une terre impure, et Israël sera emmené captif loin de son pays.
