Acts 26
1 So Agrippa said to Paul, “You may speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense.
Agrippa aber sprach zu Paulus: Es ist dir erlaubt, für dich zu reden. Da verantwortete sich Paulus und reckte die Hand aus:
2 “I regard myself as happy, King Agrippa, to make my case before you today against all the accusations of the Jews;
Es ist mir sehr lieb, lieber König Agrippa, daß ich mich heute vor dir verantworten soll alles, des ich von den Juden beschuldigt werde,
3 especially, because you are an expert in all the Jewish customs and questions. So I ask you to hear me patiently.
allermeist weil du weißt alle Sitten und Fragen der Juden. Darum bitte ich dich du wollest mich geduldiglich hören.
4 Truly, all the Jews know how I lived from my youth in my own nation and at Jerusalem.
Zwar mein Leben von Jugend auf, wie das von Anfang unter diesem Volk zu Jerusalem zugebracht ist, wissen alle Juden,
5 They knew me from the beginning and they should admit that I lived as a Pharisee, the strictest party of our religion.
die mich vorhin gekannt haben, wenn sie wollten bezeugen. Denn ich bin ein Pharisäer gewesen, welche ist die strengste Sekte unsers Gottesdienstes.
6 Now I stand here to be judged because of my certain hope in the promise made by God to our fathers.
Und nun stehe ich und werde angeklagt über der Hoffnung an die Verheißung, so geschehen ist von Gott zu unsern Vätern.
7 For this is the promise that our twelve tribes sought to receive as they earnestly worshiped God night and day. It is for this certain hope, King Agrippa, that the Jews accuse me.
Zu welcher hoffen die zwölf Geschlechter der Unsern zu kommen mit Gottesdienst Tag und Nacht emsiglich. Dieser Hoffnung halben werde ich, lieber König Agrippa, von den Juden beschuldiget.
8 Why should any of you think it is unbelievable that God raises the dead?
Warum wird das für unglaublich bei euch gerichtet, daß Gott Tote auferweckt?
9 Now indeed, I myself thought that I should do many things against the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
Zwar ich meinete auch bei mir selbst, ich müßte viel zuwidertun dem Namen Jesu von Nazareth,
10 I did these in Jerusalem. I locked up many of the saints in prison by the authority I received from the chief priests, and when they were killed, I cast my vote against them.
wie ich denn auch zu Jerusalem getan habe, da ich viel Heilige in das Gefängnis verschloß, darüber ich Macht von den Hohenpriestern empfing; und wenn sie erwürget wurden, half ich das Urteil sprechen.
11 I punished them many times in all the synagogues and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was furiously enraged against them and I persecuted them even to foreign cities.
Und durch alle Schulen peinigte ich sie oft und zwang sie zu lästern und war überaus unsinnig auf sie, verfolgte sie auch bis in die fremden Städte.
12 While I was doing this, I went to Damascus with authority and orders from the chief priests;
Über welchem, da ich auch gen Damaskus reisete mit Macht und Befehl von den Hohenpriestern,
13 and on the way there, at midday, King, I saw a light from heaven that was brighter than the sun and it shone around both me and the men who were traveling with me.
mitten am Tage, lieber König, sah ich auf dem Wege, daß ein Licht vom Himmel, heller denn der Sonne Glanz, mich und die mit mir reiseten, umleuchtete.
14 When we all fell to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me that said in the Hebrew language, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick a goad.'
Da wir aber alle zur Erde niederfielen, hörete ich eine Stimme reden zu mir, die sprach auf ebräisch: Saul, Saul, was verfolgest du mich? Es wird dir schwer sein, wider den Stachel zu lecken.
15 Then I said, 'Who are you, Lord?' The Lord replied, 'I am Jesus whom you persecute.
Ich aber sprach: HERR wer bist du? Er sprach: Ich bin Jesus, den du verfolgest; aber stehe auf und tritt auf deine Füße.
16 Now get up and stand on your feet; because for this purpose I appeared to you, to appoint you to be a servant and a witness concerning the things that you know about me now and the things that I will show to you later;
Denn dazu bin ich dir erschienen, daß ich dich ordne zum Diener und Zeugen des, das du gesehen hast, und das ich dir noch will erscheinen lassen.
17 and I will rescue you from the people and from the Gentiles to whom I am sending you,
Und will dich erretten von dem Volk und von den Heiden, unter welche ich dich jetzt sende,
18 to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive from God the forgiveness of sins and the inheritance that I give to them who are sanctified by faith in me.'
aufzutun ihre Augen, daß sie sich bekehren von der Finsternis zu dem Licht und von der Gewalt des Satans zu Gott, zu empfangen Vergebung der Sünden und das Erbe samt denen, die geheiliget werden durch den Glauben an mich.
19 Therefore, King Agrippa, I did not disobey the heavenly vision;
Daher, lieber König Agrippa, war ich der himmlischen Erscheinung nicht ungläubig,
20 but, to those in Damascus first, and then at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, I gave them the message that that they should repent and turn to God, doing deeds worthy of repentance.
sondern verkündigte zuerst denen zu Damaskus und zu Jerusalem und in alle Gegend jüdischen Landes, auch den Heiden, daß sie Buße täten und sich bekehreten zu Gott und täten rechtschaffene Werke der Buße.
21 For this cause the Jews arrested me in the temple and tried to kill me.
Um deswillen haben mich die Juden im Tempel gegriffen und unterstanden, mich zu töten.
22 God has helped me until now, so I stand and testify to the common people and to the great ones about nothing more than what the prophets and Moses said would happen—
Aber durch Hilfe Gottes ist es mir gelungen und stehe bis auf diesen Tag und zeuge beiden, dem Kleinen und Großen, und sage nichts außer dem, was die Propheten gesagt haben, daß es geschehen sollte, und Mose:
23 that Christ must suffer and that by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light to our own people and to the Gentiles.”
daß Christus sollte leiden und der Erste sein aus der Auferstehung von den Toten und verkündigen ein Licht dem Volk und den Heiden.
24 As Paul completed his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are insane; your great learning makes you insane.”
Da er aber solches zur Verantwortung gab, sprach Festus mit lauter Stimme: Paulus, du rasest; die große Kunst macht dich rasend.
25 But Paul said, “I am not insane, most excellent Festus, but what I am declaring is true and rational.
Er aber sprach: Mein teurer Festus, ich rase nicht, sondern ich rede wahre und vernünftige Worte.
26 For the king knows about these things; and so, I speak freely to him, for I am persuaded that none of this is hidden from him; for this has not been done in a corner.
Denn der König weiß solches wohl, zu welchem ich freudig rede; denn ich achte, ihm sei der keines nicht verborgen, denn solches ist nicht im Winkel geschehen.
27 Do you believe the prophets, King Agrippa? I know that you believe.”
Glaubest du, König Agrippa; den Propheten? Ich weiß, daß du glaubest.
28 Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me and make me a Christian?”
Agrippa aber sprach zu Paulus: Es fehlet nicht viel, du überredest mich, daß ich ein Christ würde.
29 Paul said, “I pray to God, that whether in a short or long time, not you only, but also all that hear me today, would be like me, but without these prison chains.”
Paulus aber sprach: Ich wünschte vor Gott, es fehlte an viel oder an wenig, daß nicht alleine du, sondern alle, die mich heute hören, solche würden, wie ich bin, ausgenommen diese Bande.
30 Then the king stood up, and the governor, and Bernice also, and those who were sitting with them;
Und da er das gesagt, stund der König auf und der Landpfleger und Bernice, und die mit ihnen saßen,
31 when they left the hall, they talked to one another and said, “This man does nothing worthy of death or of bonds.”
und entwichen beiseits, redeten miteinander und sprachen: Dieser Mensch hat nichts getan, was des Todes oder der Bande wert sei.
32 Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been freed if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
Agrippa aber sprach zu Festus: Dieser Mensch hätte können losgegeben werden, wenn er sich nicht auf den Kaiser berufen hätte.
