2 Samuel 3
1 Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. David grew stronger and stronger, but the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
Et la lutte fut longue entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David; mais David allait se renforçant de plus en plus, tandis que la maison de Saül allait s'affaiblissant de plus en plus.
2 Sons were born to David in Hebron. His firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam from Jezreel.
Et il naquit à David des fils à Hébron, et son premier-né fut Amnon, d'Ahinoam de Jizréel,
3 His second son, Kileab, was born to Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel. The third, Absalom, was son of Maacah, daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur.
et son deuxième, Chileab, d'Abigaïl, femme de Nabal, le Carmélite; et le troisième, Absalom, fils de Maacha, fille de Thalmaï, roi de Gessur;
4 David's fourth son, Adonijah, was the son of Haggith. His fifth son was Shephatiah son of Abital,
et le quatrième Adonia, fils de Haggith; et le cinquième Sephatia, fils d'Abital;
5 and the sixth, Ithream, was the son of David's wife Eglah. These sons were born to David in Hebron.
et le sixième Jithream, de Egla, femme de David. Tels sont ceux qui naquirent à David à Hébron.
6 It came about during the war between the house of Saul and the house of David that Abner made himself strong in the house of Saul.
Et pendant qu'il y eut guerre entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David, Abner tint ferme pour la maison de Saül.
7 Saul had a concubine whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. Ishbosheth said to Abner, “Why have you slept with my father's concubine?”
Or Saül avait eu une concubine, nommée Ritspa, fille d'Aia. Et [Isboseth] dit à Abner: Pourquoi es-tu entré chez la concubine de mon père?
8 Then Abner was very angry at the words of Ishbosheth and said, “Am I a dog's head that belongs to Judah? Today I am showing faithfulness to the house of Saul, your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, by not delivering you into the hand of David. But now you accuse me of an offense concerning this woman?
Et Abner fut fort irrité du langage d'Isboseth et il dit: Suis-je une tête de chien qui tienne pour Juda? Aujourd'hui je rends de bons services à la maison de Saül, ton père, à ses frères et à ses amis, et je ne t'ai point livré aux mains de David; et aujourd'hui tu me prends à partie à propos d'un écart avec cette femme!
9 May God do so to me, Abner, and more also, if I do not do for David as Yahweh has sworn to him,
Qu'ainsi Dieu traite Abner et plus mal encore! oui, comme l'Éternel en a fait le serment à David,
10 to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”
ainsi travaillerai-je dans son intérêt au transfert de la souveraineté ôtée à la maison de Saül, et à l'élévation du trône de David sur Israël et sur Juda de Dan à Béerseba.
11 Ishbosheth could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.
Et Isboseth ne put plus répliquer un mot à Abner dont il avait peur.
12 Then Abner sent messengers to David to speak for him saying, “Whose land is this? Make a covenant with me, and you will see that my hand is with you, to bring all Israel to you.”
Sur-le-champ Abner dépêcha vers David des émissaires pour lui dire: A qui est le pays? et de plus: Fais ton traité avec moi, et voici tu auras l'aide de ma main pour tourner Israël de ton côté.
13 David answered, “Good, I will make a covenant with you. But one thing I require from you is that you cannot see my face unless you first bring Michal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see me.”
Et il répondit: Bien! Je traiterai avec toi; je n'exige de toi qu'une condition: tu ne reverras pas mon visage, à moins de m'amener préalablement Michal, fille de Saül, quand tu viendras te présenter devant moi.
14 Then David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul's son, saying, “Give me my wife Michal, for whom I paid a price of one hundred Philistine foreskins.”
Et David envoya des délégués à Isboseth, fils de Saül, avec ce message: Rends-moi ma femme Michal, que je me suis fiancée au prix de cent prépuces de Philistins.
15 So Ishbosheth sent for Michal and took her from her husband, Paltiel son of Laish.
Et Isboseth la fit prendre chez le mari, Paltiel, fils de Laïs.
16 Her husband went with her, weeping as he went, and followed her to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Return home now.” So he returned.
Et son mari l'accompagna et alla pleurant derrière elle jusqu'à Bahurim. Là Abner lui dit: Va, rebrousse! Et il rebroussa.
17 Abner spoke with the elders of Israel saying, “In the past you were trying to have David be king over you.
Et Abner était entré en pourparler avec les Anciens d'Israël et avait dit: Ce n'est pas d'aujourd'hui que vous, cherchez à avoir David pour Roi.
18 Now do it. For Yahweh has spoken of David saying, 'By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines and from the hand of all their enemies.'”
Agissez maintenant, car l'Éternel a dit touchant David: C'est par la main de David, mon serviteur, que Je sauverai mon peuple d'Israël de la main des Philistins et de la main de tous ses ennemis.
19 Abner also spoke personally to the people of Benjamin. Then Abner went also to speak with David in Hebron to explain everything that Israel and the whole house of Benjamin desired to accomplish.
Et Abner s'étant aussi abouché avec les Benjaminites, alla de même redire en entier aux oreilles de David à Hébron la résolution d'Israël et de toute la maison de Benjamin.
20 When Abner and twenty of his men arrived in Hebron to see David, David had a feast prepared for them.
Abner arriva donc chez David à Hébron avec une escorte de vingt hommes, et David fit un festin à Abner et à son escorte.
21 Abner explained to David, “I will arise and gather all Israel to you, my master the king, so that they may make a covenant with you, so that you may reign over all that you desire.” So David sent Abner away, and Abner left in peace.
Et Abner dit à David: Je vais me mettre en mouvement et partir et réunir auprès de mon Seigneur le Roi la totalité des Israélites, afin qu'ils fassent un accord avec toi, et tu régneras en tous points selon ton désir. Et David congédia Abner qui s'en alla sain et sauf.
22 Then the soldiers of David and Joab came from a raid and brought much plunder with them. But Abner was not with David in Hebron. David had sent him away, and Abner had left in peace.
Et voilà que les serviteurs de David et Joab revinrent de leur expédition, ramenant avec eux un butin considérable. Or Abner n'était plus chez David à Hébron. Celui-ci l'avait congédié, et il s'en était allé sain et sauf.
23 When Joab and all the army with him arrived, they told Joab, “Abner son of Ner came to the king, and the king has sent him away, and Abner left in peace.”
Et au retour de Joab et de toute la troupe qui l'accompagnait, on fit à Joab ce rapport: Abner, fils de Ner, est venu chez le Roi, qui l'a laissé partir, et il s'en est allé sain et sauf.
24 Then Joab came to the king and said, “What have you done? Look, Abner came to you! Why have you sent him away, and he is gone?
Alors Joab entra chez le Roi et dit: Qu'as-tu fait? Voici, Abner est venu chez toi; pourquoi donc l'as-tu laissé partir et s'en aller?
25 Do you not know that Abner son of Ner came to deceive you and to discover your plans and learn everything you are doing?”
Tu connais Abner, fils de Ner! c'est pour te surprendre qu'il est venu, pour étudier tes allures, et savoir tout ce que tu fais.
26 When Joab left David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah, but David did not know this.
Et Joab ayant quitté David envoya des émissaires après Abner et ils le firent rebrousser depuis la citerne de Hasira, et cela à l'insu de David.
27 When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the middle of the gate to speak with him quietly. There Joab stabbed him in the stomach and killed him. In this way, Joab avenged the blood of Asahel his brother.
Abner étant ainsi revenu à Hébron, Joab le tira à part dans l'intérieur de la porte pour l'entretenir en secret, et là il lui porta dans le ventre un coup qui le tua, vengeant ainsi le meurtre d'Hasahel, son frère.
28 When David heard about this he said, “I and my kingdom are innocent before Yahweh forever regarding the blood of Abner son of Ner.
Et David l'ayant appris plus tard dit: Ni à moi, ni à mon règne ne pourra jamais être imputé de par l'Éternel le meurtre d'Abner, fils de Ner:
29 Let the guilt of Abner's death fall on the head of Joab and on all his father's house. May there never fail to be in the family of Joab someone who has a flowing sore or skin disease or who is lame and must walk with a staff or who is killed by the sword or who goes without food.”
qu'il retombe sur la tête de Joab et sur toute la maison de son père, et que la maison de Joab ne soit jamais purgée d'hommes ayant un flux immonde, de lépreux, de perclus, de tués par l'épée et de gens manquant de pain.
30 So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in battle.
Or Joab et Abisaï, son frère, avaient donné la mort à Abner parce qu'il avait tué Hasahel, leur frère, à Gabaon dans la bataille.
31 David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him, “Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner's body.” Now King David walked behind the body in the funeral procession.
Et David dit à Joab et à tout le peuple qui était avec lui: Déchirez vos habits et revêtez le cilice et célébrez le deuil d'Abner. Et le roi David suivit le cercueil.
32 They buried Abner in Hebron. The king wept and cried loudly at the tomb of Abner, and all the people also wept.
Et Abner reçut la sépulture à Hébron, et le Roi laissant éclater sa voix, pleura au tombeau d'Abner, et tout le peuple pleura.
33 The king lamented for Abner and sang, “Should Abner die as a fool dies?
Et le Roi chanta une complainte sur Abner en ces mots: Est-ce de la mort de l'impie que devait mourir Abner?…
34 Your hands were not bound. Your feet were not shackled. As a man falls before the sons of injustice, so you have fallen.” Once more all the people wept over him.
Tu n'avais ni les mains garrottées, ni les pieds serrés dans les fers!… Tu as péri, comme on périt sous les coups du crime!
35 All the people came to make David eat while it was still day, but David swore, “May God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun goes down.”
Et tout le peuple ne fit que le pleurer, davantage. Et tout le peuple se présenta dans le but de faire prendre à David de la nourriture encore de jour, mais David fit ce serment: Qu'ainsi Dieu me fasse et pis encore si avant le coucher du soleil je goûte du pain ou d'un mets quelconque!
36 All the people took notice of David's grief, and it pleased them, as whatever the king did pleased them.
Tout le peuple reconnut alors [sa sincérité] qui lui plut; tout ce que faisait le Roi était au gré de tout le peuple.
37 So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not the king's desire to kill Abner son of Ner.
Et en ce jour tout le peuple et tout Israël acquit la conviction que ce n'était pas de par le Roi que Abner, fils de Ner, avait été assassiné.
38 The king said to his servants, “Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?
Et le Roi dit à ses serviteurs: Ne sentez-vous pas qu'aujourd'hui un grand capitaine est tombé en Israël,
39 Now I am weak today, though I am an anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too brutal for me. May Yahweh repay the evildoer by punishing him for his wickedness, as he deserves.”
et que pour le moment je suis faible et que je viens de recevoir l'onction de Roi? Ces hommes, les fils de Tseruïa, sont trop durs pour moi. Que l'Éternel paie au méchant le salaire dû à sa méchanceté.
