2 Chronicles 33
1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign; he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.
Manassé avait douze ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna cinquante-cinq ans à Jérusalem.
2 He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, like the disgusting things of the nations whom Yahweh had driven out before the people of Israel.
Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Éternel, selon les abominations des nations que l’Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d’Israël.
3 For he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had torn down, and he built altars for the Baals, he made Asherah poles, and he bowed down to all the stars of heaven and worshiped them.
Il rebâtit les hauts lieux qu’Ézéchias, son père, avait renversés; il éleva des autels aux Baals, il fit des idoles d’Astarté, et il se prosterna devant toute l’armée des cieux et la servit.
4 Manasseh built altars in the house of Yahweh, although Yahweh had commanded, “It is in Jerusalem that my name will be forever.”
Il bâtit des autels dans la maison de l’Éternel, quoique l’Éternel eût dit: C’est dans Jérusalem que sera mon nom à perpétuité.
5 He built altars for all the stars of heaven in the two courtyards of the house of Yahweh.
Il bâtit des autels à toute l’armée des cieux dans les deux parvis de la maison de l’Éternel.
6 In the Valley of Ben Hinnom he caused his sons to pass through the fire. He practiced sorcery, divination and he read omens, and he consulted with those who talked with the dead and with those who talked with spirits. Manasseh did much evil in the sight of Yahweh, and he provoked him to anger.
Il fit passer ses fils par le feu dans la vallée des fils de Hinnom; il observait les nuages et les serpents pour en tirer des pronostics, il s’adonnait à la magie, et il établit des gens qui évoquaient les esprits et qui prédisaient l’avenir. Il fit de plus en plus ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Éternel, afin de l’irriter.
7 The carved figure he had made, he placed it in the house of God. It was about this house that God had spoken to David and Solomon his son; he had said, “It is in this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, that I will put my name forever.
Il plaça l’image taillée de l’idole qu’il avait faite dans la maison de Dieu, de laquelle Dieu avait dit à David et à Salomon, son fils: C’est dans cette maison, et c’est dans Jérusalem que j’ai choisie parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël, que je veux à toujours placer mon nom.
8 I will not move the people of Israel any more out of the land that I assigned to their ancestors, if they will only be careful to keep all that I have commanded them, following all the law, statutes, and decrees which I gave them through Moses.”
Je ne ferai plus sortir Israël du pays que j’ai destiné à vos pères, pourvu seulement qu’ils aient soin de mettre en pratique tout ce que je leur ai commandé, selon toute la loi, les préceptes et les ordonnances prescrits par Moïse.
9 Manasseh led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to do evil even more than the nations that Yahweh had destroyed before the people of Israel.
Mais Manassé fut cause que Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem s’égarèrent et firent le mal plus que les nations que l’Éternel avait détruites devant les enfants d’Israël.
10 Yahweh spoke to Manasseh, and to his people, but they paid no attention.
L’Éternel parla à Manassé et à son peuple, et ils n’y firent point attention.
11 So Yahweh brought on them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, bound him with fetters, and took him off to Babylon.
Alors l’Éternel fit venir contre eux les chefs de l’armée du roi d’Assyrie, qui saisirent Manassé et le mirent dans les fers; ils le lièrent avec des chaînes d’airain, et le menèrent à Babylone.
12 When Manasseh was in distress, he implored Yahweh, his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors.
Lorsqu’il fut dans la détresse, il implora l’Éternel, son Dieu, et il s’humilia profondément devant le Dieu de ses pères.
13 He prayed to him; and God was begged by him, and God heard his begging and brought him back to Jerusalem, into his kingship. Then Manasseh knew that Yahweh was God.
Il lui adressa ses prières; et l’Éternel, se laissant fléchir, exauça ses supplications, et le ramena à Jérusalem dans son royaume. Et Manassé reconnut que l’Éternel est Dieu.
14 After this, Manasseh built an outer wall to the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, to the entrance at the Fish Gate. He surrounded the hill of Ophel with it and raised the wall up to a very great height. He put courageous commanders in all the fortified cities of Judah.
Après cela, il bâtit en dehors de la ville de David, à l’occident, vers Guihon dans la vallée, un mur qui se prolongeait jusqu’à la porte des poissons et dont il entoura la colline, et il l’éleva à une grande hauteur; il mit aussi des chefs militaires dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda.
15 He took away the foreign gods, the idol out of the house of Yahweh, and all the altars that he had built on the mount of the house of Yahweh and in Jerusalem, and threw them out of the city.
Il fit disparaître de la maison de l’Éternel les dieux étrangers et l’idole, et il renversa tous les autels qu’il avait bâtis sur la montagne de la maison de l’Éternel et à Jérusalem; et il les jeta hors de la ville.
16 He rebuilt the altar of Yahweh and offered on it sacrifices of fellowship offerings and thank offerings; he commanded Judah to serve Yahweh, the God of Israel.
Il rétablit l’autel de l’Éternel et y offrit des sacrifices d’actions de grâces et de reconnaissance, et il ordonna à Juda de servir l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël.
17 However, the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to Yahweh, their God.
Le peuple sacrifiait bien encore sur les hauts lieux, mais seulement à l’Éternel, son Dieu.
18 As to the other matters concerning Manasseh, his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel, behold, they are written among the deeds of the kings of Israel.
Le reste des actions de Manassé, sa prière à son Dieu, et les paroles des prophètes qui lui parlèrent au nom de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, cela est écrit dans les actes des rois d’Israël.
19 In that account there is history of his prayer, and how God was moved by it. There is also an account of all his sin and his trespasses, and the places where he had built high places and set up the Asherah poles and the carved figures, before he humbled himself—they are written about in the Chronicles of the Seers.
Sa prière et la manière dont Dieu l’exauça, ses péchés et ses infidélités, les places où il bâtit des hauts lieux et dressa des idoles et des images taillées avant de s’être humilié, cela est écrit dans le livre de Hozaï.
20 So Manasseh slept with his ancestors, and they buried him in his own house. Amon, his son, became king in his place.
Manassé se coucha avec ses pères, et on l’enterra dans sa maison. Et Amon, son fils, régna à sa place.
21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign; he reigned two years in Jerusalem.
Amon avait vingt-deux ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna deux ans à Jérusalem.
22 He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, as Manasseh, his father, had done. Amon sacrificed to all the carved figures that Manasseh his father had made, and he worshiped them.
Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Éternel, comme avait fait Manassé, son père; il sacrifia à toutes les images taillées qu’avait faites Manassé, son père, et il les servit;
23 He did not humble himself before Yahweh, as Manasseh his father had done. Instead, this same Amon trespassed more and more.
et il ne s’humilia pas devant l’Éternel, comme s’était humilié Manassé, son père, car lui, Amon, se rendit de plus en plus coupable.
24 His servants conspired against him and put him to death in his own house.
Ses serviteurs conspirèrent contre lui, et le firent mourir dans sa maison.
25 But the people of the land killed all those who had conspired against King Amon, and they made Josiah, his son, king in his place.
Mais le peuple du pays frappa tous ceux qui avaient conspiré contre le roi Amon; et le peuple du pays établit roi Josias, son fils, à sa place.
