< 2 Chronicles 19 >
1 Jehoshaphat the king of Judah safely returned to his house in Jerusalem.
And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.
2 Then Jehu son of Hanani, the seer, went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you be helping the wicked? Should you be loving those who hate Yahweh? For this deed, anger from Yahweh is on you.
And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the wicked, and love them that hate YHWH? therefore is wrath upon thee from before YHWH.
3 However, there is some good to be found in you, in that you have taken the Asherah poles out of the land, and you have fixed your heart to seek God.”
Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek Elohim.
4 Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and brought them back to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto YHWH Elohim of their fathers.
5 He placed judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city.
And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,
6 He said to the judges, “Consider what you should do, because you are not judging for man, but for Yahweh; he is with you in the act of judging.
And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for YHWH, who is with you in the judgment.
7 Now then, let the fear of Yahweh be upon you. Be careful when you judge, for there is no iniquity with Yahweh our God, nor is there any favoritism or bribe taking.”
Wherefore now let the fear of YHWH be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with YHWH our Elohim, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
8 Moreover, in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites and the priests, and some of the heads of the ancestral houses of Israel, for carrying out judgment for Yahweh, and for the sake of disputes. They lived in Jerusalem.
Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of YHWH, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.
9 He instructed them, saying, “You must serve in reverence for Yahweh, faithfully, and with your whole heart.
And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of YHWH, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
10 Whenever any dispute comes to you from your brothers who live in their cities, whether concerning bloodshed, whether about laws and commands, statutes or decrees, you must warn them, so they do not become guilty before Yahweh, or anger will come toward you and toward your brothers. You shall do this and you will not be guilty.
And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against YHWH, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass.
11 See, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all the matters of Yahweh. Zebadiah son of Ishmael, the leader of the house of Judah, is in charge of all the matters of the king. Also, the Levites will be officers serving you. Be strong and obey your instructions, and may Yahweh be with those who are good.”
And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of YHWH; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king's matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and YHWH shall be with the good.
