1 Timothy 5
1 Do not scold an older man. Instead, exhort him as if he were a father. Exhort younger men as if they were brothers.
| לעולם אל תגער באדם זקן, אלא נהג בו בכבוד כאילו היה אביך. אל הצעירים ממך דבר כאל אחים אהובים. |
2 Exhort older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters in all purity.
| את הנשים המבוגרות ממך כבד כאמהות, והתייחס אל הצעירות כאל אחיותיך – חשוב עליהן אך ורק מחשבות טהורות. |
3 Honor widows, the real widows.
| עליך לכבד את אלה שהן באמת אלמנות, כלומר, אלה שנותרו בודדות וחסרות עזרה. |
4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show honor in their own household. Let them repay their parents, because this is pleasing to God.
| אך אם לאלמנה יש ילדים או נכדים, חובתם לשאת באחריות לפרנסתה, וכך ישיבו לה גמול על כל מה שעשתה למענם. התנהגות כזאת מוצאת־חן בעיני אלוהים. |
5 But a real widow is left all alone. She puts her certain hope in God. She always remains with requests and prayers both night and day.
| על הקהילה לדאוג לאלמנות שנותרו עניות ובודדות, אם הן בוטחות בה׳ ומרבות בתפילה. |
6 However, the woman who lives for pleasure is dead, even though she is still alive.
| אולם אלמנה שחיה חיי תענוגות היא מתה באופן רוחני. |
7 Give these instructions as well, so that they may be blameless.
| צווה עליהן דברים אלה כדי שתהיינה ללא דופי. |
8 But if someone does not provide for his own relatives, especially for those of his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
| מי שאינו דואג לקרוביו, ובמיוחד לבני־משפחתו, כופר באמונה והוא גרוע מאלה שאינם מאמינים. |
9 Let a woman be enrolled as a widow who is not younger than sixty, a wife of one husband.
| אל תכלול ברשימת האלמנות את אלה שהן מתחת לגיל שישים ואת אלה שנישאו ליותר מבעל אחד. |
10 She must be known for good deeds, whether it is that she has cared for children, or has been hospitable to strangers, or has washed the feet of the saints, or has relieved the afflicted, or has been devoted to every good work.
| על האלמנה להיות ידועה במעשיה הטובים, בחינוך ילדיה, בהכנסת אורחים, ברחיצת רגלי המאמינים, בעזרתה לנזקקים ובהקדשת עצמה לעשיית מעשים טובים. |
11 But as for younger widows, refuse to enroll them in the list. For when they give in to bodily desires against Christ, they want to marry.
| אל תכלול ברשימה את האלמנות הצעירות, כי כשהן מאבדות את מנוחתן והיצרים הטבעיים שלהן מתחזקים, הן מתרחקות מהמשיח ומשתוקקות להינשא בשנית. |
12 In this way they incur guilt because they revoke their first commitment.
| כך הן בוגדות באמונתן במשיח. |
13 At the same time, they also learn to be lazy and they go around from house to house. They not only become lazy, but they also talk nonsense and are busybodies, saying things they should not say.
| יותר מזה, הן מתרגלות לחיי עצלות, נודדות מבית לבית, מרכלות ומתערבות בענייניהם של אחרים. |
14 I therefore want younger women to marry, to bear children, to manage the household, and to give no opportunity for the enemy to slander us.
| לכן אני חושב כי מוטב שהצעירות הללו תינשאנה שוב, תלדנה ילדים ותדאגנה למשק הבית, כי אז לא יוכל איש למתוח עליהן ביקורת. |
15 For some have already turned aside after Satan.
| כבר עתה יש ביניהן כאלה שנטשו את אמונתן במשיח והלכו אחרי השטן. |
16 If any believing woman has widows, let her help them, so that the church will not be weighed down, so that it might help the real widows.
| אני חוזר ואומר לכם: קרובי האלמנה חייבים לדאוג לה ולפרנס אותה, ואל להם להטיל את המעמסה על הקהילה, כי אז תוכל הקהילה לפרנס את האלמנות שבאמת זקוקות לעזרה. |
17 Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work with the word and in teaching.
| מנהיגי הקהילה שממלאים היטב את תפקידם ראויים לכבוד רב, במיוחד אלה שעמלים בהפצת הבשורה ובהוראת דבר האלוהים. |
18 For the scripture says, “You shall not put a muzzle on an ox while it treads the grain” and “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
| כי כתבי־הקודש אומרים:”לא תחסם שור בדישו“, ובמקום אחר כתוב:”הפועל ראוי לשכרו.“ |
19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder unless there are two or three witnesses.
| אל תאמין להאשמות נגד מנהיג קהילה אלא אם כן שמעת את עדותם של שניים, שלושה אנשים. |
20 Correct sinners before all so that the rest may be afraid.
| אם הוא באמת חטא, יש להוכיחו לפני כל הקהילה, כדי שאיש לא ילך בעקבותיו. |
21 I solemnly command you before God and Christ Jesus and the chosen angels, to keep these commands without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism.
| לפני אלוהים, אדוננו ישוע המשיח והמלאכים בחירי ה׳, אני מצווה עליך לקיים את המצוות האלה ללא משוא־פנים, ואל תשפוט ללא חקירה. |
22 Place hands hastily on no one. Do not share in the sins of another person. You should keep yourself pure.
| לעולם אל תמהר למנות מנהיג קהילה, שמא הוא אדם חוטא, והאנשים עלולים לחשוב שאתה שותף לחטאיו. התרחק מכל חטא! |
23 You should no longer drink water. Instead, you should take a little wine for the stomach and your frequent sicknesses.
| (אגב, אני מייעץ לך לשתות מעט יין במקום מים. היין יועיל לכאבי הבטן שלך החוזרים ונשנים). |
24 The sins of some people are openly known, and they go before them into judgment. But some sins follow later.
| יש אנשים שחטאיהם ידועים וגלויים, וכמובן שהם יישפטו על כך, ויש אנשים שחטאיהם אינם ידועים – רק יום־הדין יוציא לאור את האמת המרה. |
25 Likewise, some good works are openly known, but even the others cannot be hidden.
| כך גם מעשיהם הטובים של מאמינים מסוימים ידועים לאנשים רבים. אך גם אם לא כל מעשיהם הטובים ידועים עדיין, הם ייצאו לאור במוקדם או במאוחר. |
