1 Timothy 1
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Savior and Christ Jesus our hope,
わたしたちの救主なる神と、わたしたちの望みであるキリスト・イエスとの任命によるキリスト・イエスの使徒パウロから、
2 to Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
信仰によるわたしの真実な子テモテへ。父なる神とわたしたちの主キリスト・イエスから、恵みとあわれみと平安とが、あなたにあるように。
3 As I urged you to do when I was leaving for Macedonia, remain in Ephesus so that you can command certain people not to teach a different doctrine.
わたしがマケドニヤに向かって出発する際、頼んでおいたように、あなたはエペソにとどまっていて、ある人々に、違った教を説くことをせず、
4 Neither should they pay attention to stories and endless genealogies. These cause arguments rather than helping the plan of God, which is by faith.
作り話やはてしのない系図などに気をとられることもないように、命じなさい。そのようなことは信仰による神の務を果すものではなく、むしろ論議を引き起させるだけのものである。
5 Now the goal of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from a sincere faith.
わたしのこの命令は、清い心と正しい良心と偽りのない信仰とから出てくる愛を目標としている。
6 Some people have missed the mark and have turned away from these things to foolish talk.
ある人々はこれらのものからそれて空論に走り、
7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not understand what they are saying or what they so confidently affirm.
律法の教師たることを志していながら、自分の言っていることも主張していることも、わからないでいる。
8 But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully.
わたしたちが知っているとおり、律法なるものは、法に従って用いるなら、良いものである。
9 We know this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for a lawless and rebellious people, for ungodly people and sinners, and for those who are godless and profane. It is made for those who kill their fathers and mothers, for murderers,
すなわち、律法は正しい人のために定められたのではなく、不法な者と法に服さない者、不信心な者と罪ある者、神聖を汚す者と俗悪な者、父を殺す者と母を殺す者、人を殺す者、
10 for sexually immoral people, for homosexuals, for those who kidnap people for slaves, for liars, for false witnesses, and for whatever else is against faithful instruction.
不品行な者、男色をする者、誘かいする者、偽る者、偽り誓う者、そのほか健全な教にもとることがあれば、そのために定められていることを認むべきである。
11 This instruction is according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.
これは、祝福に満ちた神の栄光の福音が示すところであって、わたしはこの福音をゆだねられているのである。
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord. He strengthened me, for he considered me faithful, and he placed me into service.
わたしは、自分を強くして下さったわたしたちの主キリスト・イエスに感謝する。主はわたしを忠実な者と見て、この務に任じて下さったのである。
13 I was a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a violent man. But I received mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief.
わたしは以前には、神をそしる者、迫害する者、不遜な者であった。しかしわたしは、これらの事を、信仰がなかったとき、無知なためにしたのだから、あわれみをこうむったのである。
14 But the grace of our Lord overflowed with faith and love that is in Christ Jesus.
その上、わたしたちの主の恵みが、キリスト・イエスにある信仰と愛とに伴い、ますます増し加わってきた。
15 This message is reliable and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. I am the worst of these.
「キリスト・イエスは、罪人を救うためにこの世にきて下さった」という言葉は、確実で、そのまま受けいれるに足るものである。わたしは、その罪人のかしらなのである。
16 But for this reason I was given mercy, so that in me, the foremost, Christ Jesus might demonstrate all patience. He did this as an example for those who would trust in him for eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
しかし、わたしがあわれみをこうむったのは、キリスト・イエスが、まずわたしに対して限りない寛容を示し、そして、わたしが今後、彼を信じて永遠のいのちを受ける者の模範となるためである。 (aiōnios g166)
17 Now to the king of the ages, the immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
世々の支配者、不朽にして見えざる唯一の神に、世々限りなく、ほまれと栄光とがあるように、アァメン。 (aiōn g165)
18 I am placing this command before you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that you might fight the good fight,
わたしの子テモテよ。以前あなたに対してなされた数々の預言の言葉に従って、この命令を与える。あなたは、これらの言葉に励まされて、信仰と正しい良心とを保ちながら、りっぱに戦いぬきなさい。
19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have shipwrecked their faith.
ある人々は、正しい良心を捨てたため、信仰の破船に会った。
20 Such are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I gave over to Satan so that they may be taught not to blaspheme.
その中に、ヒメナオとアレキサンデルとがいる。わたしは、神を汚さないことを学ばせるため、このふたりをサタンの手に渡したのである。
