1 Timothy 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Savior and Christ Jesus our hope,

מאת פולוס, שליחו של ישוע המשיח לפי מצוותו הישירה של האלוהים מושיענו וישוע המשיח, שהוא תקוותנו היחידה.

2 to Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

אל טימותיוס, בני האמיתי באמונה. מי ייתן שהאלוהים אבינו וישוע המשיח אדוננו יברך אותך בחסד, ברחמים ובשלום.

3 As I urged you to do when I was leaving for Macedonia, remain in Ephesus so that you can command certain people not to teach a different doctrine.

אני חוזר ומבקש ממך את מה שביקשתי לפני צאתי למקדוניה: אנא, הישאר כאן באפסוס, וצווה על אנשים מסוימים להפסיק ללמד את תורות השקר שלהם, ולהפסיק לרמות את האנשים.

4 Neither should they pay attention to stories and endless genealogies. These cause arguments rather than helping the plan of God, which is by faith.

שים קץ לאגדות, לשקרים ולאמונה במגילות־יוחסין אינסופיות, הגורמים לוויכוחים ולספקות, ומונעים את בניית בית האלוהים באמונה.

5 Now the goal of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from a sincere faith.

אני משתוקק שכל המאמינים המשיחיים ימלאו באהבה שנובעת מלב טהור, מצפון נקי ואמונה אמיתית.

6 Some people have missed the mark and have turned away from these things to foolish talk.

אבל ישנם אנשים שתעו מהדברים האלה ופנו לדיבורי הבל.

7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not understand what they are saying or what they so confidently affirm.

הם רוצים שיכירו בהם כבעלי סמכות בהוראת התורה, בזמן שאינם בקיאים בתורה ואינם יודעים כלל מה שהם אומרים.

8 But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully.

אנחנו יודעים שחוקי התורה הם טובים, בתנאי שמשתמשים בהם כפי שאלוהים רצה.

9 We know this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for a lawless and rebellious people, for ungodly people and sinners, and for those who are godless and profane. It is made for those who kill their fathers and mothers, for murderers,

אנחנו גם יודעים שחוקי התורה לא נחקקו למען האנשים הישרים והטובים, אלא למען אנשים חסרי מוסר, חסרי שליטה עצמית – למען הרשעים. כן, חוקי התורה נחקקו עבור אנשים שמכים את הוריהם, רוצחים את חבריהם,

10 for sexually immoral people, for homosexuals, for those who kidnap people for slaves, for liars, for false witnesses, and for whatever else is against faithful instruction.

זונים, הומוסקסואלים, סוחרי נפש, רמאים, שקרנים, וכל אלה שעושים מעשים שהם נגד הבשורה הנפלאה של האל המבורך, אשר אני שליחו.

11 This instruction is according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord. He strengthened me, for he considered me faithful, and he placed me into service.

אני אסיר תודה לישוע המשיח אדוננו על שבחר בי להיות אחד משליחיו, שבטח בי ומינה אותי לשרת אותו,

13 I was a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a violent man. But I received mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief.

למרות שבעבר לעגתי לשמו וקיללתי אותו. רדפתי את המאמינים במשיח, הצקתי להם ופגעתי בהם, אולם אלוהים ריחם עלי, כי בזמנו לא הכרתי את המשיח ולא ידעתי מה אני עושה.

14 But the grace of our Lord overflowed with faith and love that is in Christ Jesus.

מה רב חסדו של אדוננו! – הוא לימדני לבטוח ולהאמין בו, ולהימלא באהבת המשיח.

15 This message is reliable and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. I am the worst of these.

מה נהדר הדבר ומה משתוקק אני שכל העולם יידע: שישוע המשיח בא לעולם כדי להושיע את החוטאים, ואני הייתי הגדול שבהם!

16 But for this reason I was given mercy, so that in me, the foremost, Christ Jesus might demonstrate all patience. He did this as an example for those who would trust in him for eternal life. (aiōnios g166)

אך אלוהים ריחם עלי, כדי שישוע המשיח יוכל להציגני לדוגמה לפני כל העתידים להאמין בו, כהוכחה לסבלנותו הרבה אף כלפי החוטא הגדול ביותר! כך יבינו שגם הם יכולים לזכות בחיי נצח, (aiōnios g166)

17 Now to the king of the ages, the immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)

כל הכבוד וההדר לאלוהים מעולם ועד עולם! הוא מלך העולמים, הבלתי־נראה אשר חי לנצח; הוא בלבד האלוהים והוא מלא חכמה. – אמן. (aiōn g165)

18 I am placing this command before you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that you might fight the good fight,

טימותיוס, בני, אני מצווה עליך להילחם היטב במלחמת האדון, כפי שביקש ממך האדון באמצעות נביאיו.

19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have shipwrecked their faith.

שמור היטב על אמונתך במשיח, שמור את מצפונך נקי תמיד, ועשה את הישר והנכון. כי יש אנשים שאטמו את אוזניהם לקול מצפונם ועשו את הרע בכוונה תחילה. לאחר שמאסו באלוהים בצורה כזאת, אין פלא שעד מהרה איבדו את אמונתם במשיח!

20 Such are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I gave over to Satan so that they may be taught not to blaspheme.

הומניוס ואלכסנדרוס הם דוגמה לכך: נאלצתי להענישם ולמסרם לשטן, כדי שילמדו לא לבייש יותר את שם המשיח.
