1 Samuel 3

1 The child Samuel served Yahweh under Eli. Yahweh's word was rare in those days; there was no frequent prophetic vision.

El joven Samuel ministraba a Yavé en presencia de Elí. En aquellos días la Palabra de Yavé era escasa y las visiones no frecuentes.

2 At that time, when Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see well, was lying down in his own bed.

Por ese tiempo aconteció que mientras Elí estaba acostado en su aposento, cuando sus ojos comenzaban a oscurecerse de modo que no podía ver,

3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down to sleep in the temple of Yahweh, where the ark of God was.

antes que se apagara la lámpara de ʼElohim, y mientras Samuel estaba acostado en el Tabernáculo de Yavé, en el lugar donde estaba el Arca de ʼElohim,

4 Yahweh called to Samuel, who said, “Here I am.”

Yavé llamó a Samuel. Él respondió: Aquí estoy.

5 Samuel ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Eli said, “I did not call you; lie down again.” So Samuel went and lay down.

Enseguida corrió hacia Elí y dijo: Aquí estoy. ¿Para qué me llamaste? Y Elí le contestó: Yo no te llamé. Vuelve y acuéstate. Y él volvió y se acostó.

6 Yahweh called again, “Samuel.” Again Samuel rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Eli answered, “I did not call you, my son; lie down again.”

Yavé volvió a llamar a Samuel. Samuel se levantó, fue a Elí y dijo: Aquí estoy, ¿para qué me llamaste? Y él respondió: Yo no te llamé, hijo mío. Vuelve y acuéstate.

7 Now Samuel did not yet have any experience of Yahweh, nor had any message from Yahweh ever been revealed to him.

Samuel no conocía aún a Yavé, ni la Palabra de Yavé le había sido aún revelada.

8 Yahweh called Samuel again the third time. Again Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli realized that Yahweh had called the boy.

Yavé llamó a Samuel por tercera vez. Y él se levantó, fue a Elí y dijo: Aquí estoy, porque me llamaste. Entonces Elí entendió que Yavé llamaba al joven.

9 Then Eli said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again; if he calls you again, you must say, 'Speak, Yahweh, for your servant is listening.'” So Samuel went and lay down in his own place once more.

Elí dijo a Samuel: Vé y acuéstate. Si te llama, dirás: Habla Yavé, porque tu esclavo escucha. Samuel fue y se acostó en su lugar.

10 Yahweh came and stood; he called as at the other times, “Samuel, Samuel.” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Yavé llegó y se detuvo. Como las otras veces llamó: ¡Samuel, Samuel! Y Samuel respondió: Habla, porque tu esclavo escucha.

11 Yahweh said to Samuel, “See, I am about to do something in Israel at which the ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.

Yavé dijo a Samuel: Mira, Yo haré una cosa en Israel que al que la oiga, le vendrá un sonido vibrante en ambos oídos.

12 On that day I will carry out against Eli everything I have said about his house, from beginning to end.

Ese día cumpliré contra Elí todas las cosas que anuncié con respecto a su casa, desde el principio hasta el fin.

13 I have told him that I am about to judge his house once for all for the sin that he knew about, because his sons brought a curse upon themselves and he did not stop them.

Porque le informé que castigaré a su casa para siempre por la iniquidad que él sabía, porque sus hijos trajeron una maldición sobre ellos, y él no los reprendió.

14 Because of this I have sworn to the house of Eli that the sins of his house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.”

Por eso juré a la casa de Elí que la iniquidad de su casa no tendrá jamás algo que apacigüe, ni con sacrificios ni con ofrendas.

15 Samuel lay down until morning; then he opened the doors of the house of Yahweh. But Samuel was afraid to tell Eli about the vision.

Samuel estuvo acostado hasta la mañana y abrió las puertas del Tabernáculo de Yavé. Pero Samuel temía contar la visión a Elí.

16 Then Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” Samuel said, “Here I am.”

Así que Elí llamó a Samuel y le dijo: Hijo mío, Samuel. Y él respondió: Aquí estoy.

17 He said, “What was the word he spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. May God do so to you, and even more, if you hide anything from me of all the words that he spoke to you.”

Y preguntó: ¿Cuál es la Palabra que te habló? Te ruego que no me la ocultes. Así te haga ʼElohim y aún te añada, si me ocultas alguna Palabra de todas las que te habló.

18 Samuel told him everything; he hid nothing from him. Eli said, “It is Yahweh. Let him do what seems good to him.”

Entonces Samuel le contó todo, sin ocultarle nada. Y él respondió: Es Yavé. Haga lo que le parezca bien.

19 Samuel grew up, and Yahweh was with him, and he let none of his prophetic words fall to the ground.

Samuel creció, y Yavé estaba con él, y no dejó caer a tierra ninguna de sus Palabras.

20 All Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was appointed to be a prophet of Yahweh.

Todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, supo que Samuel fue designado profeta de Yavé.

21 Yahweh appeared again in Shiloh, for he revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by his word.

Yavé volvió a aparecer en Silo, porque Yavé se revelaba a Samuel en Silo a través de la Palabra de Yavé.
