1 Samuel 3
1 The child Samuel served Yahweh under Eli. Yahweh's word was rare in those days; there was no frequent prophetic vision.
El niño Samuel servía ante el Señor bajo la supervisión de Elí. En aquella época no se escuchaba un mensaje del Señor con frecuencia, y las visiones no eran comunes.
2 At that time, when Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see well, was lying down in his own bed.
Una noche, Elí se había ido a acostar en su habitación. Sus ojos estaban tan débiles que no podía ver.
3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down to sleep in the temple of Yahweh, where the ark of God was.
La lámpara de Dios aún no se había apagado, y Samuel estaba durmiendo en el Templo del Señor, donde estaba el Arca de Dios.
4 Yahweh called to Samuel, who said, “Here I am.”
Entonces el Señor lo llamó: “¡Samuel!” Samuel entonces respondió: “Aquí estoy”.
5 Samuel ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Eli said, “I did not call you; lie down again.” So Samuel went and lay down.
Entonces corrió hacia Elí y le dijo: “Aquí estoy ¿Me llamabas?”. “Yo no te he llamado”, respondió Elí. “Vuelve a la cama”. Así que Samuel volvió a la cama.
6 Yahweh called again, “Samuel.” Again Samuel rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Eli answered, “I did not call you, my son; lie down again.”
Entonces el Señor volvió a llamar: “¡Samuel!”. Y Samuel se levantó, fue a ver a Elí y le dijo: “Aquí estoy ¿Me llamabas?”. “Yo no te he llamado, hijo mío”, respondió Elí. “Vuelve a la cama”.
7 Now Samuel did not yet have any experience of Yahweh, nor had any message from Yahweh ever been revealed to him.
(Samuel aún no había llegado a conocer al Señor y no había recibido ningún mensaje de él).
8 Yahweh called Samuel again the third time. Again Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli realized that Yahweh had called the boy.
El Señor volvió a llamar por tercera vez: “¡Samuel!”. Éste se levantó, fue a ver a Elí y le dijo: “Aquí estoy ¿Me llamabas?”. Entonces Elí se dio cuenta de que era el Señor quien llamaba al muchacho.
9 Then Eli said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again; if he calls you again, you must say, 'Speak, Yahweh, for your servant is listening.'” So Samuel went and lay down in his own place once more.
Así que Elí le dijo a Samuel: “Vuelve a la cama, y si escuchas el llamado, dile: ‘Habla, Señor, porque tu siervo te escucha’”. Así que Samuel volvió a su cama.
10 Yahweh came and stood; he called as at the other times, “Samuel, Samuel.” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
El Señor llegó y se quedó allí, llamando igual que antes: “¡Samuel! Samuel!” Entonces Samuel respondió: “Habla, porque tu siervo te escucha”.
11 Yahweh said to Samuel, “See, I am about to do something in Israel at which the ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.
El Señor le dijo entonces a Samuel: “Presta atención, porque voy a hacer algo en Israel que sorprenderá a todos los que lo escuchen.
12 On that day I will carry out against Eli everything I have said about his house, from beginning to end.
Es entonces cuando cumpliré todo lo que he dicho, de principio a fin, contra Elí y su familia.
13 I have told him that I am about to judge his house once for all for the sin that he knew about, because his sons brought a curse upon themselves and he did not stop them.
Le dije que juzgaré a su familia para siempre por los pecados que él conoce, porque sus hijos blasfemaron contra Dios y él no trató de detenerlos.
14 Because of this I have sworn to the house of Eli that the sins of his house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.”
Por eso le juré a Elí y a su familia: ‘La culpa de Elí y de sus descendientes no se quitará nunca con sacrificios ni con ofrendas’”.
15 Samuel lay down until morning; then he opened the doors of the house of Yahweh. But Samuel was afraid to tell Eli about the vision.
Samuel permaneció en la cama hasta la mañana. Luego se levantó y abrió las puertas del Templo del Señor como de costumbre. Tenía miedo de contarle a Elí la visión.
16 Then Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” Samuel said, “Here I am.”
Pero Elí lo llamó y le dijo: “Samuel, hijo mío”. “Aquí estoy”, respondió Samuel.
17 He said, “What was the word he spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. May God do so to you, and even more, if you hide anything from me of all the words that he spoke to you.”
“¿Qué te ha dicho?” preguntó Elí. “No me lo ocultes. Que Dios te castigue muy severamente si me ocultas algo de lo que te dijo”.
18 Samuel told him everything; he hid nothing from him. Eli said, “It is Yahweh. Let him do what seems good to him.”
Así que Samuel le contó todo y no le ocultó nada. “Es el Señor”, respondió Elí. “Que haga lo que le parezca bien”.
19 Samuel grew up, and Yahweh was with him, and he let none of his prophetic words fall to the ground.
Samuel siguió creciendo. El Señor estaba con él y se aseguraba de que todo lo que decía era fiel.
20 All Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was appointed to be a prophet of Yahweh.
Todos en todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, reconocían que Samuel era un profeta del Señor digno de confianza.
21 Yahweh appeared again in Shiloh, for he revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by his word.
El Señor siguió apareciendo en Silo, porque allí se revelaba a Samuel y le entregaba sus mensajes,
