1 Samuel 16
1 Yahweh said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I will send you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have selected for myself a king among his sons.”
El Señor un día le preguntó a Samuel: “¿Hasta cuándo vas a seguir llorando a Saúl porque lo he rechazado como rey de Israel? Llena tu frasco con aceite de oliva y vete. Ve donde Isaí de Belén, porque he elegido un rey para mí de entre sus hijos”.
2 Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears of it, he will kill me.” Yahweh said, “Take a heifer with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh.'
“¿Cómo puedo ir a hacer eso?” preguntó Samuel. “¡Saúl se enterará y me matará!”. El Señor respondió: “Lleva contigo una novilla y di: ‘He venido a sacrificar al Señor’.
3 Call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you will do. You will anoint for me the one whom I tell you.”
Invita a Isaí al sacrificio, y yo te enseñaré lo que tienes que hacer. Unge para mí al que yo te diga”.
4 Samuel did as Yahweh said and went to Bethlehem. The elders of the city were trembling as they came to meet him and said, “Are you coming in peace?”
Samuel hizo lo que el Señor le había dicho y fue a Belén. Cuando los ancianos de la ciudad le salieron al encuentro, se asustaron y le preguntaron: “¿Vienes en son de paz?”
5 He said, “In peace; I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh. Prepare to set yourselves apart and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he set apart Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
“Sí, vengo en son de paz”, respondió. “He venido a presentar sacrificio al Señor. Purifíquense y vengan conmigo a hacer el sacrificio”. Entonces purificó a Isaí y a sus hijos y los invitó al sacrificio.
6 When they came, he looked at Eliab and said to himself that Yahweh's anointed was certainly standing before him.
Cuando llegaron y Samuel vio a Eliab, pensó para sí: “¡Este tiene que ser el ungido del Señor!”.
7 But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Do not look at his outward appearance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him. For Yahweh does not see as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks on the heart.”
Pero el Señor le dijo a Samuel: “No te fijes en su aspecto exterior ni en su altura porque lo he rechazado. Porque el Señor no mira como los seres humanos. Los seres humanos sólo ven con sus ojos lo que está en el exterior, pero el Señor mira la forma de pensar de las personas en su interior”.
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. Then Samuel said, “Neither has Yahweh chosen this one.”
Entonces Isaí llamó a Abinadab y lo hizo venir ante Samuel, quien dijo: “El Señor tampoco ha elegido a éste”.
9 Jesse then made Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, “Neither has Yahweh chosen this one.”
Entonces Isaí hizo que Simea se presentara. Pero Samuel dijo: “El Señor tampoco ha elegido a éste”.
10 Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Yahweh has not chosen any of these.”
Isaí hizo que siete de sus hijos se presentaran ante Samuel, pero éste le dijo: “El Señor no ha elegido a ninguno de éstos”.
11 Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all of your sons here?” He replied, “There remains yet the youngest, but he is tending the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.”
Entonces le preguntó a Isaí: “¿No tienes más hijos?”. “Bueno, aún queda el más joven”, respondió Isaí, “pero está fuera cuidando las ovejas”. “Manda a buscarlo y tráelo aquí, porque no nos vamos a sentar a comer hasta que llegue aquí”, le dijo Samuel a Isaí.
12 Jesse sent and brought him in. Now this son was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. Yahweh said, “Arise, anoint him; for he is the one.”
Así que Isaí mandó a buscarlo y lo trajo delante de Samuel. Tenía una tez roja y unos ojos hermosos, y tenía buen parecer. El Señor dijo: “Ve a ungirlo, porque es él”.
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the middle of his brothers. The Spirit of Yahweh rushed on David from that day forward. Then Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.
Samuel tomó el frasco de aceite de oliva y lo ungió en presencia de sus hermanos, y el Espíritu del Señor vino sobre David con poder desde aquel día. Luego Samuel se fue y regresó a Ramá.
14 Now the Spirit of Yahweh left Saul, and a harmful spirit from Yahweh troubled him instead.
El Espíritu del Señor había abandonado a Saúl, y un espíritu maligno del Señor lo atormentaba.
15 Saul's servants said to him, “Look, a harmful spirit from God troubles you.
Los siervos de Saúl le dijeron: “Sin duda es un espíritu maligno de Dios el que te atormenta.
16 Let our master now command your servants who are before you to look for a man who is a skillful player on the harp. Then when the harmful spirit from God is on you, he will play it and you will be well.”
Danos aquí la orden de encontrar a alguien que sea bueno tocando el arpa, para que cuando el espíritu maligno de Dios venga sobre ti, pueda tocar y te sientas mucho mejor”.
17 Saul said to his servants, “Find me a man that can play well and bring him to me.”
Saúl dio la orden a sus siervos: “Busquen a alguien que sea bueno tocando el arpa y tráiganlo aquí”.
18 Then one of the young men answered, and said, “I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a strong, courageous man, a man of war, one prudent in speech, a handsome man; and Yahweh is with him.”
Uno de los criados respondió: “Conozco a un hijo de Isaí, de Belén, que es bueno tocando el arpa. Es un hombre valiente, buen luchador, de buen hablar y guapo, y el Señor está con él”.
19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.”
Saúl envió mensajeros a Isaí, diciéndole: “Envíame a tu hijo David, el que cuida las ovejas”.
20 Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a container of wine, and a young goat, and sent them with his son David to Saul.
Así que Isaí cargó un asno con pan, un odre de vino y un cabrito y los envió con su hijo David a Saúl.
21 Then David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor bearer.
David llegó a Saúl y comenzó a trabajar para él. Saúl lo apreciaba mucho, y David se convirtió en su escudero.
22 Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my eyes.”
Saúl envió un mensaje a Isaí, diciendo: “Por favor, permite que David siga trabajando para mí, porque estoy complacido con él”.
23 Whenever the harmful spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the harp and played it. So Saul would be refreshed and well, and the harmful spirit would depart from him.
Así, cada vez que el espíritu de Dios se apoderaba de Saúl, David tomaba su arpa y tocaba, y Saúl se aliviaba y se sentía mejor, y el espíritu maligno lo dejaba.
