1 Samuel 16

1 Yahweh said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I will send you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have selected for myself a king among his sons.”

൧അതിനുശേഷം യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോട്: “യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജസ്ഥാനത്ത് നിന്ന് ഞാൻ ശൌലിനെ മാറ്റി എന്നറിഞ്ഞ് നീ അവനെക്കുറിച്ച് എത്രകാലം ദുഃഖിക്കും? കൊമ്പിൽ തൈലം നിറച്ച് പുറപ്പെടുക; ഞാൻ നിന്നെ ബേത്ത്ലഹേംകാരനായ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കൽ അയയ്ക്കും; അവന്റെ മക്കളിൽ ഒരാളെ ഞാൻ രാജാവായി നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

2 Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears of it, he will kill me.” Yahweh said, “Take a heifer with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh.'

൨അതിന് ശമൂവേൽ: “ഞാൻ എങ്ങനെ പോകും? ശൌല്‍ കേട്ടാൽ എന്നെ കൊല്ലും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ: “നീ ഒരു പശുക്കിടാവിനെയും കൊണ്ടുചെന്ന്, ഞാൻ യഹോവയ്ക്ക് യാഗം അർപ്പിക്കുവാൻ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പറയുക.

3 Call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you will do. You will anoint for me the one whom I tell you.”

൩യിശ്ശായിയെയും യാഗത്തിന് ക്ഷണിക്കുക; നീ ചെയ്യേണ്ടത് എന്താണ് എന്ന് ഞാൻ അപ്പോൾ നിന്നോട് അറിയിക്കും; ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞുതരുന്ന ആളെ നീ എനിക്കായിട്ട് അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യേണം”.

4 Samuel did as Yahweh said and went to Bethlehem. The elders of the city were trembling as they came to meet him and said, “Are you coming in peace?”

൪യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ശമൂവേൽ ചെയ്തു. ബേത്ത്-ലേഹേമിൽ ചെന്നു; പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാർ അവന്റെ വരവിൽ വിറച്ചുകൊണ്ട് “നിന്റെ വരവ് ശുഭം തന്നെയോ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

5 He said, “In peace; I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh. Prepare to set yourselves apart and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he set apart Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

൫അതിന് അവൻ: “ശുഭം തന്നെ; ഞാൻ യഹോവയ്ക്ക് യാഗം അർപ്പിക്കുവാൻ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങളെ തന്നെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ച് എന്നോടുകൂടെ യാഗത്തിന് വരുവിൻ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ യിശ്ശായിയെയും അവന്റെ മക്കളെയും ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ച് അവരെയും യാഗത്തിന് ക്ഷണിച്ചു.

6 When they came, he looked at Eliab and said to himself that Yahweh's anointed was certainly standing before him.

൬അവർ വന്നപ്പോൾ ശമുവേൽ എലീയാബിനെ കണ്ടിട്ട്: “യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തൻ അവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഇതാ നിൽക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7 But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Do not look at his outward appearance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him. For Yahweh does not see as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks on the heart.”

൭യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോട്: “അവന്റെ ശാരീരിക രൂപമോ ഉയരമോ നോക്കരുത്; ഞാൻ അവനെ തള്ളിയിരിക്കുന്നു. മനുഷ്യൻ നോക്കുന്നത് പോലെയല്ല; മനുഷ്യൻ പുറമെ കാണുന്നത് നോക്കുന്നു; യഹോവയോ ഹൃദയത്തെ നോക്കുന്നു” എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. Then Samuel said, “Neither has Yahweh chosen this one.”

൮പിന്നെ യിശ്ശായി അബീനാദാബിനെ വിളിച്ച് ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വരുത്തി; അപ്പോൾ ശമുവേൽ: “യഹോവ ഇവനെയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9 Jesse then made Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, “Neither has Yahweh chosen this one.”

൯പിന്നെ യിശ്ശായി ശമ്മയെയും വരുത്തി. “ഇവനെയും യഹോവ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല” എന്ന് അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു.

10 Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Yahweh has not chosen any of these.”

൧൦അങ്ങനെ യിശ്ശായി ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാരെ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ വരുത്തി; എന്നാൽ ശമൂവേൽ യിശ്ശായിയോട്: “യഹോവ ഇവരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11 Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all of your sons here?” He replied, “There remains yet the youngest, but he is tending the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.”

൧൧“നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ എല്ലാവരും ഇവിടെ വന്നോ?” എന്ന് ശമൂവേൽ ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന് അവൻ: “ഇനിയും ഏറ്റവും ഇളയ പുത്രൻ ഉണ്ട്; അവൻ ആടുകളെ മേയ്ക്കയാകുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ശമൂവേൽ യിശ്ശായിയോട്: അവനെ ആളയച്ച് വരുത്തുക; അവൻ വന്നിട്ടല്ലാതെ നാം ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുകയില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12 Jesse sent and brought him in. Now this son was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. Yahweh said, “Arise, anoint him; for he is the one.”

൧൨ഉടനെ അവർ അവനെ ആളയച്ച് വരുത്തി; “എന്നാൽ അവൻ പവിഴനിറമുള്ളവനും, സുന്ദരമായകണ്ണുകൾ ഉള്ളവനും, കോമളരൂപം ഉള്ളവനും ആയിരുന്നു. അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു: “എഴുന്നേറ്റ് ഇവനെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യുക; ഞാൻ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തവൻ ഇവൻ തന്നെ ആകുന്നു” എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the middle of his brothers. The Spirit of Yahweh rushed on David from that day forward. Then Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

൧൩അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേൽ തൈലക്കൊമ്പ് എടുത്ത് അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ നടുവിൽ വെച്ച് അവനെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു; യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവ് അന്നുമുതൽ ദാവീദിന്മേൽ വ്യാപരിച്ചു. ശമൂവേൽ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് രാമയിലേക്ക് പോയി.

14 Now the Spirit of Yahweh left Saul, and a harmful spirit from Yahweh troubled him instead.

൧൪എന്നാൽ യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവ് ശൌലിനെ വിട്ടുമാറി; യഹോവ അയച്ച ഒരു ദുരാത്മാവ് അവനെ ബാധിച്ചു.

15 Saul's servants said to him, “Look, a harmful spirit from God troubles you.

൧൫അപ്പോൾ ശൌലിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാർ അവനോട്: “ദൈവം അയച്ച ഒരു ദുരാത്മാവ് നിന്നെ ബാധിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ”.

16 Let our master now command your servants who are before you to look for a man who is a skillful player on the harp. Then when the harmful spirit from God is on you, he will play it and you will be well.”

൧൬“അതുകൊണ്ട് കിന്നരവായനയിൽ നിപുണനായ ഒരുവനെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാൻ തിരുമനസ്സുകൊണ്ട് അടിയങ്ങൾക്ക് കല്പന തരണം; എന്നാൽ ദൈവത്തിൽനിന്ന് ദുരാത്മാവ് തിരുമേനിമേൽ വരുമ്പോൾ അവൻ കൈകൊണ്ട് വായിക്കുകയും തിരുമേനിക്ക് ഭേദം വരികയും ചെയ്യും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17 Saul said to his servants, “Find me a man that can play well and bring him to me.”

൧൭ശൌല്‍ തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോട്: “കിന്നരവായനയിൽ നിപുണനായ ഒരുവനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ” എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

18 Then one of the young men answered, and said, “I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a strong, courageous man, a man of war, one prudent in speech, a handsome man; and Yahweh is with him.”

൧൮ബാല്യക്കാരിൽ ഒരുവൻ: “ബേത്ത്ലഹേംകാരനായ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ ഒരു മകനെ ഞാൻ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്; അവൻ കിന്നരവായനയിൽ നിപുണനും, ധൈര്യശാലിയായ യോദ്ധാവും, വാക്ചാതുര്യമുള്ളവനും കോമളനും ആകുന്നു; യഹോവ അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ട്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.”

൧൯അതുകൊണ്ട് ശൌല്‍ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കൽ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു: “ആട്ടിടയനായ നിന്റെ മകൻ ദാവീദിനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ അയക്കണം” എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

20 Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a container of wine, and a young goat, and sent them with his son David to Saul.

൨൦യിശ്ശായി ഒരു കഴുതയെ വരുത്തി, അതിന്റെ പുറത്ത് അപ്പം, ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞ്, ഒരു കോലാട്ടിൻകുട്ടി എന്നിവ കയറ്റി തന്റെ മകൻ ദാവീദിന്റെ കൈവശം ശൌലിന് കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

21 Then David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor bearer.

൨൧ദാവീദ് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്ന് അവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ നിന്നു; ശൌലിന് അവനോട് വളരെ സ്നേഹമായി; അവൻ അവന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനായിത്തീർന്നു.

22 Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my eyes.”

൨൨അതുകൊണ്ട് ശൌല്‍ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കൽ ആളയച്ച്: ദാവീദിനോട് എനിക്ക് ഇഷ്ടം തോന്നിയിരിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ അവൻ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ താമസിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

23 Whenever the harmful spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the harp and played it. So Saul would be refreshed and well, and the harmful spirit would depart from him.

൨൩ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്ന് ദുരാത്മാവ് ശൌലിന്മേൽ വരുമ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് കിന്നരം എടുത്ത് വായിക്കും; ശൌലിന് ആശ്വാസവും സുഖവും ഉണ്ടാകും; ദുരാത്മാവ് അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറും.
