< 1 John 3 >

1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God, and this is what we are. For this reason, the world does not know us, because it did not know him.
Behold, how great love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called the children of God! For this reason, the world knows us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, we are now children of God, and it has not yet been revealed what we will be. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like him, for we will see him just as he is.
Beloved, now are we the children of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 Everyone who has this hope fixed on him purifies himself just as he is pure.
And every one that has this hope in Him purifies himself, even as He is pure.
4 Everyone who sins is committing acts of lawlessness, for sin is lawlessness.
Every one that works sin, works also transgression of law: and sin is transgression of law.
5 You know that Christ was revealed in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.
And you know that he was manifested, that he might take away our sins; and in him there is no sin.
6 No one who remains in him will keep on sinning. No one who continues to sin has seen him or known him.
Whoever abides in him, sins not. Whoever sins, has neither seen him nor known him.
7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.
Little children, let no one deceive you: he that works righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 The one who commits sin is from the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this reason the Son of God was revealed, so that he would destroy the devil's works.
He that works sin is of the devil, for the devil sins from the beginning: for this purpose was the son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whoever has been born from God does not continue to sin because God's seed remains in him. He cannot continue to sin because he has been born of God.
Whoever has been begotten of God does not work sin; because his seed remains in him: and he can not sin, because he has been begotten of God.
10 In this the children of God and children of the devil are revealed: Whoever does not do what is righteous is not from God, neither is the one who does not love his brother.
By this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil. Whoever does not work righteousness is not of God; neither is he that loves not his brother.
11 For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
12 We should not be like Cain, who was from the evil one and murdered his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.
Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one, and slew his brother: and for what reason did he slay him? because his own works were evil, and his brother’s, righteous.
13 Do not be amazed, my brothers, if the world hates you.
Wonder not, my brethren, if the world hates you.
14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death.
We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren: he that loves not his brother, abides in death.
15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer. You know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. (aiōnios g166)
Whoever hates his brother, is a murderer: and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. (aiōnios g166)
16 By this we know love, because Christ laid down his life for us. We also ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
By this we know the love of Christ, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17 But whoever has the world's goods, sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart of compassion from him, how does the love of God remain in him?
Whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother have need, and shuts his heart against him, how dwells the love of God in him?
18 My dear children, let us not love in word nor in tongue, but in actions and truth.
My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue, but in deed, and in truth.
19 It is by this we know that we are from the truth, and we assure our hearts before him.
And by this we know that we are of the truth; and we shall have our hearts at rest before him:
20 For if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and he knows all things.
for if our heart condemn us, we know that God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21 Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have confidence toward God,
22 Whatever we ask we will receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing before him.
and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
23 This is his commandment: that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he gave us this commandment.
And this is his commandment: That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
24 The one who keeps God's commandments remains in him, and God remains in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit whom he gave to us.
And he that keeps his commandments abides in him, and he in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given us.
