< 1 Corinthians 6 >

1 When one of you has a dispute with another, does he dare to go to the civil court before an unbelieving judge, rather than before the saints?
Does any one of you that has a matter of dispute with another, presume to be judged before the unrighteous, and not before the saints?
2 Do you not know that the believers will judge the world? If then, you will judge the world, are you not able to settle matters of little importance?
Know you not that the saints shall judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you unworthy to decide concerning the smallest matters?
3 Do you not know that we will judge the angels? How much more, then, can we judge matters of this life?
Know you not that we shall judge angels? Much more then, things pertaining to this life.
4 If then you have to make judgments that pertain to daily life, why do you lay such cases as these before those who have no standing in the church?
If, then, you have controversies pertaining to things of this life, set them to judge who are the least esteemed in the church.
5 I say this to your shame. Is there no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between brothers?
I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not among you a wise man, not even one, who shall be able to arbitrate between his brethren?
6 But as it stands, one believer goes to court against another believer, and that case is placed before a judge who is an unbeliever!
But brother goes to law with brother, and this before the unbelievers?
7 The fact that there are any disputes at all between Christians is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer the wrong? Why not rather allow yourselves to be cheated?
Now, certainly, you are altogether in fault, that you have law-suits with one another. Why do you not rather suffer injustice? Why do you not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
8 But you have wronged and cheated others, and these are your own brothers!
But you act unjustly, and you defraud, and that, too, your brethren.
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not believe lies. The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, those who practice homosexuality,
Know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither lewd persons, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor catamites, nor sodomites,
10 thieves, the greedy, drunkards, slanderers, and swindlers—none of them will inherit the kingdom of God.
nor thieves, nor defrauders, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
11 That is what some of you were like. But you have been cleansed, you have been sanctified, you have been made right with God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
12 “Everything is lawful for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is lawful for me,” but I will not be mastered by any of them.
All meats are lawful for me: but all are not profitable. All are lawful for me; but I will not be brought under subjection by any.
13 “Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food,” but God will do away with both of them. The body is not intended for sexual immorality. Instead, the body is for the Lord, and the Lord will provide for the body.
Meats for the stomach, and the stomach for meats; but God will destroy both it and them. But the body is not for lewdness, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body:
14 God both raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.
and God has raised, up the Lord, and will also raise us up by his power.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and join them to a prostitute? May it not be!
Know you not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I, then, take the members of the Christ, and make them the members of a harlot? It must not be.
16 Do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one flesh with her? As scripture says, “The two will become one flesh.”
Know you not that he that is joined to a harlot, is one body? For the two, says the scripture, shall be one flesh.
17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
But he that is joined to the Lord, is one spirit.
18 Run away from sexual immorality! Every other sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
Shun lewdness. Every sin that a man commits, is without the body; but he that is guilty of lewdness sins against his own body.
19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives within you, whom you have from God? Do you not know that you are not your own?
Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?
20 For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.
For you have been bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body.
