< 1 Chronicles 9 >
1 So all Israel was recorded in genealogies. They were recorded in the book of the kings of Israel. As for Judah, they were carried away in exile to Babylon because of their sin.
And [this is] all Israel, [even] their enrolment: and these [are] written down in the book of the kings of Israel and Juda, with the [names of them] that were carried away to Babylon for their transgressions.
2 The first to resettle in their cities were some Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
And they that lived before in their possessions in the cities of Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the appointed ones.
3 Some descendants of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem.
And there lived in Jerusalem some of the children of Juda, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and Manasse.
4 The settlers included Uthai son of Ammihud son of Omri son of Imri son of Bani, one of the descendants of Perez son of Judah.
And Gnothi, and the son of Samiud, the son of Amri, the son of Ambraim, the son of Buni, son of the sons of Phares, the son of Juda.
5 Among the Shelanites were Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.
And of the Selonites; Asaia his firstborn, and his sons.
6 Among the descendants of Zerah was Jeuel. Their descendants numbered 690.
Of the sons of Zara; Jeel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety.
7 Among the descendants of Benjamin were Sallu son of Meshullam son of Hodaviah son of Hassenuah.
And of the sons of Benjamin; Salom, son of Mosollam, son of Odouia, son of Asinu.
8 There were also Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi son of Mikri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah son of Reuel son of Ibnijah.
And Jemnaa son of Jeroboam, and Elo: these [are] the sons of Ozi the son of Machir: and Mosollam, son of Saphatia, son of Raguel, son of Jemnai;
9 Their relatives written in the genealogical lists numbered 956. All these men were heads of fathers' houses for their fathers' houses.
and their brethren according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty-six, all the men [were] heads of families according to the houses of their fathers.
10 The priests were Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and Jakin.
And of the priests; Jodae, and Joarim, and Jachin,
11 There was also Azariah son of Hilkiah son of Meshullam son of Zadok son of Meraioth son of Ahitub, the one in charge of the house of God.
and Azaria the son of Chelcias, the son of Mosollam, the son of Sadoc, the son of Maraioth, the son of Achitob, the ruler of the house of God;
12 There was Adaiah son of Jeroham son of Pashhur son of Malkijah. There was also Maasai son of Adiel son of Jahzerah son of Meshullam son of Meshillemith son of Immer.
and Adaia son of Iraam, son of Phascor, son of Melchia, and Maasaia son of Adiel, son of Ezira, son of Mosollam, son of Maselmoth, son of Emmer;
13 Their relatives, who were leaders for their fathers' houses, numbered 1,760. They were very capable men in the work in the house of God.
and their brethren, chiefs of their families, a thousand and seven hundred and sixty, mighty [men] for the work of the ministration of the house of God.
14 Among the Levites, there was Shemaiah son of Hasshub son of Azrikam son of Hashabiah, among the descendants of Merari.
And of the Levites; Samaia son of Asob, son of Ezricam, son of Asabia, of the sons of Merari.
15 There were also Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mika son of Zikri son of Asaph.
And Bacbacar, and Ares, and Galaal, and Matthanias son of Micha, son of Zechri, son of Asaph;
16 There were also Obadiah son of Shemaiah son of Galal son of Jeduthun; and Berekiah son of Asa son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.
and Abdia, son of Samia, son of Galaal, son of Idithun, and Barachia son of Ossa, son of Helcana—who lived in the villages of the Notephatites.
17 The doorkeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their descendants. Shallum was their leader.
The doorkeepers; Salom, Acum, Telmon, and Diman, and their brethren; Salom [was] the chief;
18 Previously they stood guard at the king's gate on the east side for the camp of Levi's descendants.
and [he waited] hitherto in the king's gate eastward: these [are] the gates of the companies of the sons of Levi.
19 Shallum son of Kore son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his relatives from the house of his father, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the guard service. They guarded the door to the tent, as their ancestors had guarded the camp of Yahweh, and they also had guarded the entrance.
And Sellum the son of Core, the son of Abiasaph, the son of Core, and his brethren belonging to the house of his father, the Corites [were] over the works of the service, keeping the watches of the tabernacle, and their fathers over the camp of the Lord, keeping the entrance.
20 Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of them in the past, and Yahweh had been with him.
And Phinees son of Eleazar was head over them before the Lord, and these [were] with him.
21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was guard of the entrance to the temple, the “tent of meeting.”
Zacharias the son of Mosollami [was] keeper of the door of the tabernacle of witness.
22 All those who were chosen as gatekeepers at the entrances numbered 212. Their names were recorded in the people's records in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had placed them into their positions of trust.
All the chosen porters in the gates [were] two hundred and twelve, these [were] in their courts, [this was] their distribution: these David and Samuel the seer established in their charge.
23 So they and their children guarded the gates of the house of Yahweh, the tabernacle.
And these and their sons [were] over the gates in the house of the Lord, and in the house of the tabernacle, to keep watch.
24 The gatekeepers were posted on all four sides, toward the east, west, north, and south.
The gates were towards the four winds, eastward, westward, northward, southward.
25 Their brothers, who lived in their villages, came in for seven-day rotations, in turn.
And their brethren [were] in their courts, to enter in weekly from time to time with these.
26 But the four leaders of the gatekeepers, who were Levites, were assigned to guard the rooms and storerooms in the house of God.
For four strong [men] have the charge of the gates; and the Levites were over the chambers, and they keep watch over the treasures of the house of God.
27 They would spend the night in their posts all around the house of God, for they were responsible for guarding it. They would open it each morning.
For the charge [was] upon them, and these [were] charged with the keys to open the doors of the temple every morning.
28 Some of them were in charge of the temple's equipment; they counted the articles when they were brought in and when they were taken out.
And [some] of them [were appointed] over the vessels of service, that they should carry them in by number, and carry them out by number.
29 Some of them also were assigned to take care of the holy things, the equipment, and the supplies, including the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.
And [some] of them [were] appointed over the furniture, and over all the holy vessels, and over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.
30 Some of the priests' sons mixed the spices.
And some of the priests were makers of the ointment, and [appointed to prepare] the spices.
31 Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of preparing bread for the offerings.
And Matthathias of the Levites, (he [was] the firstborn of Salom the Corite, ) [was set] in charge over the sacrifices of meat-offering of the pan belonging to the high priest.
32 Some of their brothers, descendants of the Kohathites, were in charge of the bread of the presence, to prepare it every Sabbath.
And Banaias the Caathite, from amongst their brethren, [was set] over the show bread, to prepare it every sabbath.
33 The singers and heads of the Levites' fathers' houses lived in rooms at the sanctuary when they were free from work, because they had to carry out their assigned tasks day and night.
And these [were] the singers, heads of families of the Levites, [to whom were] established daily courses, for they were employed in the services day and night.
34 These were leaders of fathers' houses among the Levites, as listed in their genealogical records, chief men. They lived in Jerusalem.
These [were] the heads of the families of the Levites according to their generations; these chiefs lived in Jerusalem.
35 The father of Gibeon, Jeiel, whose wife's name was Maakah, lived in Gibeon.
And Jeel the father of Gabaon lived in Gabaon; and his wife's name [was] Moocha.
36 His firstborn son was Abdon, then his sons Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
And his firstborn son [was] Abdon, and [he had] Sur, and Kis, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab,
37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.
and Gedur and [his] brother, and Zacchur, and Makeloth.
38 Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They also lived near their brothers in Jerusalem.
And Makeloth begot Samaa: and these lived in the midst of their brethren in Jerusalem, [even] in the midst of their brethren.
39 Ner was the father of Kish. Kish was the father of Saul. Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab, and Esh-Baal.
And Ner begot Kis, and Kis begot Saul, and Saul begot Jonathan, and Melchisue, and Aminadab, and Asabal.
40 The son of Jonathan was Merib-Baal. Merib-Baal was the father of Micah.
And the son of Jonathan [was] Meribaal: and Meribaal begot Micha.
41 The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melek, Tahrea, and Ahaz.
And the sons of Micha [were] Phithon and Malach, and Tharach.
42 Ahaz was the father of Jadah. Jadah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. Zimri was the father of Moza.
And Achaz begot Jada: and Jada begot Galemeth, and Gazmoth, and Zambri; and Zambri begot Massa.
43 Moza was the father of Binea. Binea was the father of Rephaiah. Rephaiah was the father of Eleasah. Eleasah was the father of Azel.
And Massa begot Baana, and Rhaphaia [was] his son, Elasa his son, Esel his son.
44 Azel's six sons were Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were Azel's sons.
And Esel had six sons, and these [were] their names; Esricam his firstborn, and Ismael, and Saraia, and Abdia, and Anan, and Asa: these [were] the sons of Esel.
