1 Then all Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “Look, we are your flesh and bone.

त्‍यसपछि सबै इस्राएल हेब्रोनमा दाऊदकहाँ आए र भने, “हेर्नुहोस्, हामीहरू तपाईंकै हाडनाता हौ ।

2 In the recent past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led the Israelite army. Yahweh your God said to you, 'You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become a ruler over my people Israel.'”

हालैमा बितेका समयमा, जब शाऊल हाम्रा राजा थिए, तब तपाईंले नै इस्राएलको सेनाको नेतृत्‍व गर्नुभयो । परमप्रभु तपाईंका परमेश्‍वरले तपाईंलाई यसो भन्‍नुभयो, ‘तैंले नै मेरा मानिस इस्राएलको रेखदेख गर्नेछस्, र तँ नै मेरा मानिस इस्राएलको शासक हुनेछस्‌’ ।”

3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before Yahweh. They anointed David king over Israel. In this way, the word of Yahweh that had been declared by Samuel came true.

त्यसैले इस्राएलका सबै धर्म-गुरुहरू हेब्रोनमा दाऊद राजाकहाँ आए, र त्‍यहीं नै दाऊदले परमप्रभुको सामुन्‍ने तिनीहरूसित करार गरे । तिनीहरूले दाऊदलाई इस्राएलमाथि राजा अभिषेक गरे । यसरी शमूएलद्वारा घोषणा गरिएको परमप्रभुको वचन पुरा भयो ।

4 David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). Now the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.

दाऊद र सारा इस्राएल यरूशलेममा (अर्थात् यबूसमा) गए । यति बेला त्‍यस देशका बसिन्‍दा यबूसीहरू त्‍यहाँ थिए ।

5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You will not come in here.” But David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.

यबूसका बसिन्‍दाहरूले दाऊदलाई भने, “तपाईं यहाँ कहिल्‍यै आउनुहुनेछैन ।” तर दाऊदले सियोनको किल्‍ला अर्थात् दाऊदको सहरलाई लिए ।

6 David had said, “Whoever attacks the Jebusites first will become chief and commander.” So Joab son of Zeruiah attacked first, so he was made the chief.

दाऊदले भनेका थिए, “यबूसीहरूलाई जोसुकैले सबभन्‍दा पहिले आक्रमण गर्छ त्‍यो नै मुखिया र कमान्‍डर हुनेछ ।” यसैले सरूयाहका छोरा योआबले सबभन्‍दा पहिले आक्रमण गरे, त्यसैले तिनलाई मुखिया बनाइयो ।

7 Then David began to live in the stronghold. So they called it the city of David.

तब दाऊद त्यही किल्‍लामा बसोबास गर्न थाले । यसैले तिनीहरूले त्‍यसलाई दाऊदको सहर नामाकरण गरे ।

8 He built the city all around from the Millo and back to the surrounding wall. Joab restored the rest of the city.

टेवा दिने गाराहरू र पछाडिबाट चारैतिरको पर्खालसम्‍म किल्‍लाको वरिपरि तिनले सहर बनाए । योआबले चाहिं बाँकी सहरको पुनर्निर्माण गरे ।

9 David became greater and greater because Yahweh of hosts was with him.

दाऊद झन्‌-झन्‌ शक्तिशाली हुँदै गए किनभने सर्वशक्तिमान् परमप्रभु तिनीसित हुनुहुन्‍थ्‍यो ।

10 These were the leaders David had, who showed themselves strong with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, obeying the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.

इस्राएलको विषयमा परमप्रभुको वचन पालन गर्दै दाऊदको राज्‍यमा तिनको साथमा तिनलाई राजा बनाउनलाई जम्‍मै इस्राएलसँगै मिलेर आफूलाई सामर्थ्‍यवान् देखाउने तिनका अगुवाहरू यी नै थिए

11 This is a list of David's mighty men: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, was commander of the officers. He killed three hundred men with his spear on one occasion.

दाऊदका शक्तिशाली मानिसहरूको सूची यही होः हक्‍मोनी याशोबाम अधिकारीहरूका कमान्‍डर थिए । तिनले एकपल्‍ट तिन सय जनालाई भालाले मारेका थिए ।

12 After him was Eleazar son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.

तिनीपछि अहोही दोदैका छोरा एलाजार थिए, जो तीन जना वीर मानिसमध्‍ये एक थिए ।

13 He was with David at Pas Dammim, and there the Philistines assembled together for battle, where there was a barley field and the army fled from the Philistines.

तिनी दाऊदसँग पास-दम्‍मीममा थिए, जहाँ जौको एउटा खेतमा पलिश्‍तीहरू युद्धको निम्‍ति भेला भए र पलिश्तीहरूदेखि सेना भाग्यो ।

14 They stood in the middle of the field. They defended it and cut down the Philistines and Yahweh rescued them with a great victory.

तिनीहरू खेतको बिचमा खडा भए । तिनीहरूले त्यसको रक्षा गरे, र पलिश्तीहरूलाई काटे र परमप्रभुले ठूलो विजय दिनुभएर तिनीहरूको उद्धार गर्नुभयो ।

15 Then three of the thirty leaders went down to the rock to David, to the cave of Adullam. The army of the Philistines was camped in the Valley of Rephaim.

तब ती तिस जना मुख्‍य अगुवामध्‍ये यी तिन जना अदुल्‍लामको ओडारमा भएको पहरामा दाऊद भएका ठाउँमा गए । पलिश्‍तीहरूका सेना रपाईहरूको मैदानमा छाउनी हालेर बसेका थिए ।

16 At that time David was in his stronghold, a cave, while the Philistines had established their camp at Bethlehem.

त्‍यस बेला दाऊदचाहिं आफ्‍नो किल्ला अर्थात् एउटा गुफामा थिए, जबकी पलिश्‍तीहरूले बेथलेहेममा आफ्‍नो छाउनी हालेका थिए ।

17 David was longing for water and said, “If only someone would give me water to drink from the well at Bethlehem, the well that is by the gate!”

दाऊदलाई तिर्खा लाकेको थियो र तिनले भने, “कसैले बेथलेहेमको मूल ढोकाको छेउमा भएको इनारबाट पानी ल्याएर पिउन दिए हुन्‍थ्‍यो!”

18 So these three mighty men broke through the army of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, the well at the gate. They took the water and brought it to David, but he refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out to Yahweh.

यसैले ती तीन जना वीर मानिसले पलिश्‍तीहरूका सेनाको बिचबाट गएर बेथलेहेमको मूल ढोकाको छेउको इनारबाट पानी उघाए । तिनीहरूले त्‍यो पानी लिए र त्‍यो दाऊदकहाँ ल्‍याए, तर तिनले त्‍यो पिउन इन्‍कार गरे । बरु, तिनले त्‍यो परमप्रभुमा खन्‍याए ।

19 Then he said, “May it be that I should never do this! Should I drink the blood of these men who have risked their lives?” Because they had put their lives at risk, David refused to drink it. These were the deeds of the three mighty men.

तब तिनले भने, “मैले यसो कहिले पनि नगर्नुपरोस्! के मैले यि मानिसहरूको रगत पिउनू, जसले आफ्नो जीवनलाई नै खतरामा हालेका छन्?” तिनीहरूले आफ्नो जीवन जोखिममा पारेका हुनाले, दाऊदले त्‍यो पिउन इन्कार गरे । यी तीन जना वीर मानिसका कामहरू यी नै थिए ।

20 Abishai brother of Joab was captain over the Three. He once used his spear against three hundred and killed them. He is mentioned along with the Three.

योआबका भाइ अबीशै ती तीन जनाका प्रमुख थिए । एकपल्‍ट तिनले तिन सय जनाको विरुद्ध भालाको प्रयोग गरे र तिनीहरूलाई मारे । ती तिन जनासँगै तिनको पनि उल्‍लेख गरिएको छ ।

21 Of the Three, he was given double honor and became their captain, even though he was not one of them.

तिन जनामध्ये तिनलाई दोब्बर सम्मान दिइयो र तिनीहरूका प्रमुख भए, तापनि तिनी तिमध्‍येका एक जना भने थिएनन् ।

22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a brave warrior from Kabzeel, who did great deeds. He killed the two sons of Ariel of Moab. He also went down into a pit and killed a lion on a day when the snow was falling.

यहोयादाका छोरा बनायाह कब्‍सेलका वीर योद्धा थिए, जसले महान् कामहरू गरे । तिनले मोआबका एरिएलका दुई छोरालाई मारे । तिनी एक दिन एउटा खाडलभित्र गए र हिउँ परिरहेको बेलामा एउटा सिंहलाई मारे ।

23 He even killed an Egyptian, a man five cubits tall. The Egyptian had a spear like a weaver's beam, but he went down to him with only a staff. He seized the spear out of the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear.

तिनले पाँच हात अल्‍गो एक जना मिश्रीलाई पनि मारे । त्यस मिश्रीको भाला कपडा बुन्‍ने जुलाहाको डन्‍डा जत्रो थियो, तर यिनी एउटा लौरो मात्र लिएर त्योसँग लड्‌न गए । तिनले त्‍यो मिश्रीको हातबाट उसकै भाला खोसे र उसको आफ्‍नै बालाले उसलाई मारे ।

24 Benaiah son of Jehoiada did these feats, and he was named alongside the three mighty men.

यहोयादाका छोरा बनायाहले यस्ता वीरताका काम गरे, र ती तिन जनासँग तिनको नाउँ उल्‍लेख गरियो ।

25 He was more highly regarded than the thirty soldiers in general, but he was not regarded quite as highly as the three mighty men. Yet David put him in charge of his bodyguard.

तिस जना सामान्‍य सेनाभन्दा बढी सम्मान तिनलाई दिइयो, तर ती तीन जना वीर मानिसजत्तिकै सम्‍मान भने तिनलाई दिइएनन् । तापनि दाऊदले तिनलाई आफ्‍ना अङ्गरक्षकका निरीक्षक तुल्‍याए ।

26 The mighty men were Asahel brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

वीर मानिसहरूमा योआबका भाइ असाहेल, बेथलेहेमका दोदैका छोरो एल्‍हानान,

27 Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,

हारोरी शम्‍मोत, पेलोनी हेलेस,

28 Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite,

तकोका इक्‍केशका छोरा ईरा, अनातोतका अबीएजेर,

29 Sibbekai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,

हूशाती सिब्‍बकै, अहोही ईलै,

30 Maharai the Netophathite, Heled son of Baanah the Netophathite,

नतोपाती महरै, नतोपाती बानका छोरा हेलेद,

31 Ithai son of Ribai of Gibeah of Benjamin's descendants, Benaiah the Pirathonite,

बेन्‍यामीनको गिबाका रीबैको छोरा ईथै, पिरातोनी बनायाह,
