And after the captivity of Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel,

17 So the whole number of generations from Abraham to David is fourteen; from David to the Exile to Babylon fourteen; and from the Exile to Babylon to the Christ fourteen.
All the generations therefore from Abraham to David are fourteen generations: and from David until the captivity of Babylon fourteen generations: and from the Babylonish captivity unto Christ, fourteen generations.
18 The birth of Jesus Christ took place as follows: His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but, before the marriage took place, she found herself to be with child by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in wise: when Mary his mother was promised in marriage to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child by the Holy Ghost:
19 Her husband, Joseph, was a religious man and, being unwilling to expose her to contempt, resolved to put an end to their betrothal privately.
but Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was inclined to break off the contract with her privately;
20 He had been dwelling upon this, when an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary for your wife, for her child has been conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit.
and when he was thinking on these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph thou Son of David, scruple not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
21 She shall give birth to a son; and you shall give him the name Jesus, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins.”
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 All this happened in fulfilment of these words of the Lord in the Prophet, where he says —
(Now all this came to pass, that it might be fulfilled, which the Lord spake by the prophet, saying,
23 ‘Behold! the virgin shall be with child and shall give birth to a son, and they will give him the name Immanuel’ — a word which means ‘God is with us.’
"Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel," which is God with us.)
24 When Joseph awoke from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had directed him.
So Joseph, when he awoke from his sleep, did as the angel of the Lord directed him, and took home his wife:
25 He made Mary his wife, but did not live with her as her husband until after the birth of her son; and to this son he gave the name Jesus.
and he knew her not, till she brought forth her Son the first-born, and he called his name Jesus.
