Luke 6
1 One Sabbath Jesus was walking through cornfields, and his disciples were picking the ears of wheat, and rubbing them in their hands, and eating them.
૧“એક વિશ્રામવારે ઈસુ ખેતરોમાં થઈને જતા હતા, ત્યારે તેમના શિષ્યો ઘઉંના કણસલાં તોડીને હાથમાં મસળીને ખાતા હતા.
2 “Why are you doing what it is not allowable to do on the Sabbath?” asked some of the Pharisees.
૨આથી ફરોશીઓમાંના કેટલાકે કહ્યું કે, ‘વિશ્રામવારે જે કરવું ઉચિત નથી, તે તમે કેમ કરો છો?’”
3 Jesus’ answer was: “Have not you read even of what David did, when he was hungry, he and his companions —
૩ઈસુએ તેઓને ઉત્તર આપતા કહ્યું કે, ‘દાઉદ તથા તેના સાથીઓ ભૂખ્યા હતા, ત્યારે તેઓએ જે કર્યુ, તે શું તમે વાંચ્યું નથી કે
4 That he went into the House of God, and took the consecrated bread and ate it, and gave some to his companions, though only the priests are allowed to eat it?”
૪તેણે ઈશ્વરના ઘરમાં જઈને જે અર્પેલી રોટલી યાજક સિવાય બીજા કોઈને ખાવી ઉચિત ન હતી તે તેણે લઈને ખાધી, અને પોતાના સાથીઓને પણ આપી?’”
5 Then Jesus added: “The Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
૫તેમણે તેઓને કહ્યું કે, ‘માણસનો દીકરો વિશ્રામવારનો પ્રભુ છે.’”
6 On another Sabbath Jesus went into the Synagogue and taught; and there was a man there whose right hand was withered.
૬બીજા એક વિશ્રામવારે ઈસુ સભાસ્થાનમાં જઈને બોધ કરતા હતા; ત્યારે એક માણસ ત્યાં હતો કે જેનો જમણો હાથ સુકાઈ ગયેલો હતો.
7 The Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees watched Jesus closely, to see if he would work cures on the Sabbath, so that they might find a charge to bring against him.
૭વિશ્રામવારના દિવસે ઈસુ કોઈને સાજો કરશે કે નહિ, તે વિષે શાસ્ત્રીઓ તથા ફરોશીઓ તેમને જોયા કરતા હતા, એ માટે કે ઈસુ પર દોષ મૂકવાની તેઓને તક મળે.
8 Jesus, however, knew what was in the their minds, and said to the man whose hand was withered: “Stand up and come out into the middle.” The man stood up;
૮પણ ઈસુએ તેઓના વિચારો જાણી લઈને જે વ્યક્તિનો હાથ સુકાઈ ગયેલો હતો તેને કહ્યું કે, ‘ઊઠીને વચમાં ઊભો રહે.’ તે ઊઠીને વચમાં આવીને ઊભો રહ્યો.
9 and Jesus said to them: “I ask you, is it allowable to do good on the Sabbath — or harm? to save a life, or let it perish?”
૯ત્યારે ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, ‘હું તમને પૂછું છું, કે વિશ્રામવારે સારું કરવું કે ખોટું કરવું, જીવને બચાવવો કે તે જીવનો નાશ કરવો, એ બન્નેમાંથી કયું ઉચિત છે?’”
10 Then, looking round at them all, he said to the man: “Stretch out your hand.” The man did so; and his hand had become sound.
૧૦ઈસુએ બધી બાજુ નજર ફેરવીને તે વ્યક્તિને કહ્યું કે, ‘તારો હાથ લાંબો કર.’ તેણે તેમ કર્યું, એટલે તેનો હાથ સાજો થયો.
11 But the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees were goaded to madness, and consulted together what they could do to Jesus.
૧૧પણ તેઓ ક્રોધે ભરાયા; અને એકબીજાને કહેવા લાગ્યા કે, ‘ઈસુ વિષે આપણે શું કરીએ?’”
12 Now about that time, Jesus went out, up the hill, to pray, and spent the whole night in prayer to God.
૧૨તે દિવસોમાં એમ થયું કે ઈસુ ઘરમાંથી નીકળીને પ્રાર્થના કરવા સારુ પહાડ પર ગયા; ત્યાં તેમણે ઈશ્વરને પ્રાર્થના કરવામાં આખી રાત વિતાવી.
13 When day came, he summoned his disciples, and chose twelve of them, whom he also named ‘Apostles.’
૧૩સવાર થતાં ઈસુએ પોતાના શિષ્યોને બોલાવીને તેઓમાંના બારને પસંદ કર્યા, જેઓને તેમણે પસંદ કર્યા તેઓને ‘પ્રેરિતો’ એવું નામ આપ્યું.
14 They were Simon (whom Jesus also named Peter), and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
૧૪સિમોન જેનું નામ ઈસુએ પિતર રાખ્યું હતું તેને તથા તેના ભાઈ આન્દ્રિયા, યાકૂબ, યોહાન, ફિલિપ અને બર્થોલ્મીને,
15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon known as the Zealot,
૧૫માથ્થી, થોમા, અલ્ફીના દીકરા યાકૂબ અને સિમોન, જે ઝનૂની હતો તેને,
16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who proved a traitor.
૧૬યાકૂબના દીકરા યહૂદાને, અને યહૂદા ઇશ્કારિયોત જે વિશ્વાસઘાતી હતો તેને.
17 Afterwards Jesus came down the hill with them and took his stand on a level place. With him were a large crowd of his disciples, and great numbers of people from the whole of Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast district of Tyre and Sidon,
૧૭પછી ઈસુ શિષ્યોની સાથે પહાડ પરથી ઊતરીને મેદાનમાં ઊભા રહ્યા, તેમના શિષ્યોનો મોટો સમુદાય તથા આખા યહૂદિયામાંથી, યરુશાલેમમાંથી, તેમ જ તૂર તથા સિદોનના દરિયાકિનારાંનાં લોકોનો મોટો સમુદાય ત્યાં હતો કે, જેઓ તેમના વચનો સાંભળવા તથા પોતાના રોગથી સાજાં થવા આવ્યા હતા;
18 who had come to hear him and to be restored to health. Those, too, who were troubled with foul spirits were cured;
૧૮જેઓ અશુદ્ધ આત્માઓથી પીડાતા હતા તેમને પણ સાજાં કરવામાં આવ્યા.
19 and every one in the crowd was trying to touch him, because a power went out from him which restored them all.
૧૯સર્વ લોકો ઈસુને સ્પર્શ કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરતા હતા; કેમ કે તેમનાંમાંથી પરાક્રમ નીકળીને સઘળાંને સાજાં કરતું હતું.
20 Then, raising his eyes and looking at his disciples, Jesus spoke as follows: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God.
૨૦ત્યાર પછી ઈસુએ પોતાના શિષ્યો તરફ જોઈને કહ્યું કે, ‘ઓ નિર્ધનો, તમે આશીર્વાદિત છો કેમ કે ઈશ્વરનું રાજ્ય તમારું છે.
21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
૨૧અત્યારે ભૂખ વેઠનારાઓ, તમે આશીર્વાદિત છો કેમ કે તમે તૃપ્ત થશો. અત્યારે રડનારાઓ, તમે આશીર્વાદિત છો કેમ કે તમે હસશો.
22 Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they expel you from among them, and taunt you, and reject your Name as an evil thing — on account of the Son of Man.
૨૨જયારે માણસના દીકરાને લીધે લોકો તમારો દ્વેષ કરશે તમને બહાર કાઢશે, તમને મહેણાં મારશે, તમારું અપમાન કરશે, તમારા નામને કલંકિત માનીને તમને કાઢી મૂકશે, ત્યારે તમે આશીર્વાદિત છો.
23 Then indeed you may be glad and dance for joy, for be sure that your reward in Heaven will be great; for that is what their ancestors did to the Prophets.
૨૩તે દિવસે તમે આનંદ કરો અને ખુશીથી કૂદો કેમ કે જુઓ, સ્વર્ગમાં તમારો બદલો મોટો છે; કેમ કે તેઓના પૂર્વજોએ પ્રબોધકોની પ્રત્યે એવું જ વર્તન કર્યુ હતું.
24 But ‘alas for you who are rich,’ for you have had your comforts in full.
૨૪પણ ઓ ધનવાનો તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે તમે તમારો દિલાસો પામી ચૂક્યા છો!
25 Alas for you who are sated now, for you will hunger. Alas for you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
૨૫ઓ અત્યારે ધરાયેલાઓ તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે તમે ભૂખ્યા થશો. ઓ હાલનાં હસનારાઓ, તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે તમે શોક કરશો અને રડશો.
26 Alas for you when all men speak well of you; for this is what their ancestors did to the false Prophets.
૨૬જયારે સઘળા લોકો તમારું સારું બોલે ત્યારે તમને અફસોસ છે! કેમ કે તેઓના પૂર્વજો જૂઠાં પ્રબોધકો પ્રત્યે તેમ જ વર્ત્યા હતા.
27 But to you who hear I say — Love your enemies, show kindness to those who hate you,
૨૭પણ હું તમને સાંભળનારાઓને કહું છું કે, તમારા શત્રુઓ પર પ્રેમ કરો, જેઓ તમારો દ્વેષ કરે છે તેઓનું ભલું કરો,
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who insult you.
૨૮જેઓ તમને શાપ દે છે તેઓને આશીર્વાદ દો, જેઓ તમારું અપમાન કરે છે તેઓને સારુ પ્રાર્થના કરો.
29 When a man gives one of you a blow on the cheek, offer the other cheek as well; and, when any one takes away your cloak, do not keep back your coat either.
૨૯જે કોઈ તારા એક ગાલ પર તમાચો મારે, તેની આગળ બીજો ગાલ પણ ધર; કોઈ તારા વસ્ત્રો લઈ લે, તેનાથી તારું પહેરણ પણ પાછું રાખીશ નહિ.
30 Give to every one who asks of you; and, when any one takes away what is yours, do not demand its return.
૩૦જો કોઈ તારી પાસે માગે તેને આપ; કોઈ તારું કશું પણ લઈ જાય તેની પાસેથી તું પાછું માગીશ નહિ.
31 Do to others as you wish them to do to you.
૩૧લોકો જેમ તમારી સાથે જે રીતે વર્તે તેમ જ તમે પણ તેઓની સાથે વર્તન કરો.
32 If you love only those who love you, what thanks will be due to you? Why, even the outcast love those who love them!
૩૨તમારા પર જેઓ પ્રેમ રાખે છે તેઓ પર જ તમે પ્રેમ રાખો, તો તમારી મહેરબાની શાની? કેમ કે પાપીઓ પણ પોતાની ઉપર પ્રેમ રાખનારાઓ પર જ પ્રેમ રાખે છે.
33 For, if you show kindness only to those who show kindness to you, what thanks will be due to you? Even the outcast do that!
૩૩જે તમારું સારું કરે છે માત્ર તેઓનું જ સારું જો તમે કરો, તો તમારી મહેરબાની શાની? કેમ કે પાપીઓ પણ એમ જ કરે છે.
34 If you lend only to those from whom you expect to get something, what thanks will be due to you? Even the outcast lend to the outcast in the hope of getting as much in return!
૩૪જેની પાસેથી તમે પાછું મેળવાની અપેક્ષા રાખો છો, તેઓને જ તમે ઉછીનું આપો, તો તમારી મહેરબાની શાની? કેમ કે પૂરેપૂરું પાછું મળવાનું હોય તો પાપીઓ પણ પાપીઓને ઉછીનું આપે છે.
35 But love your enemies, and show them kindness, and lend to them, never despairing. Then your reward shall be great, and you shall be Sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the thankless and the bad.
૩૫પણ તમે તમારા શત્રુઓ પર પ્રેમ રાખો, અને તેઓનું સારું કરો, પાછું મળવાની ઇચ્છા રાખ્યા વગર ઉછીનું આપો; અને તમને મોટો બદલો મળશે અને તમે પરાત્પરના દીકરા થશો; કેમ કે અનુપકારીઓ તથા પાપીઓ પર તેઓ માયાળુ છે.
36 Learn to be merciful — even as your Father is merciful.
૩૬માટે જેમ તમારા ઈશ્વરપિતા દયાળુ છે, તેમ તમે દયાળુ થાઓ.
37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
૩૭કોઈનો ન્યાય ન કરો, અને તમારો ન્યાય નહિ કરાશે. કોઈને દોષિત ન ઠરાવો અને તમે દોષિત નહિ ઠરાવાશો. માફ કરો અને તમને પણ માફ કરાશે.
38 Give, and others will give to you. A generous measure, pressed and shaken down, and running over, will they pour into your lap; For the measure that you mete will be meted out to you in return.”
૩૮આપો ને તમને પણ આપવામાં આવશે; સારું માપ દાબેલું ને હલાવેલું તથા ઊભરાતું તમારા ખોળામાં તેઓ ઠાલવી દેશે. કેમ કે જે માપથી તમે માપી આપો છો, તેથી તમને પાછું માપી અપાશે.
39 Then, speaking in parables, Jesus said: “Can one blind man guide another? Will they not both fall into a ditch?
૩૯ઈસુએ તેઓને એક દ્રષ્ટાંત પણ કહ્યું કે, ‘શું દ્રષ્ટિહીન વ્યક્તિ અન્ય દ્રષ્ટિહીનને દોરી શકે? શું બન્ને ખાડામાં પડશે નહિ?
40 A scholar is not above his teacher; yet every finished scholar shall be like his teacher.
૪૦શિષ્ય પોતાના ગુરુ કરતાં મોટો નથી, પણ પ્રત્યેક શિષ્ય સંપૂર્ણ રીતે તૈયાર થયા પછી પોતાના ગુરુ જેવો થશે.
41 And why do you look at the straw in your brother’s eye, while you pay no attention at all to the beam in your own?
૪૧તું તારા ભાઈની આંખમાંનું ફોતરું ધ્યાનમાં લે છે, અને તારી પોતાની આંખમાંનો ભારોટીયો કેમ જોતો નથી?
42 How can you say to your brother ‘Brother, let me take out the straw in your eye,’ while you yourself do not see the beam in your own? Hypocrite! Take out the beam from your own eye first, and then you will see clearly how to take out the straw in your brother’s.
૪૨તારી પોતાની આંખમાંનો ભારોટીયો ન જોતો હોય તો પછી તું તારા ભાઈને કઈ રીતે કહી શકે કે, ભાઈ, તારી આંખમાંથી મને તણખલું ફોતરું દે? ઓ ઢોંગી, તું પહેલાં પોતાની આંખમાંથી ભારોટીયો કાઢ, અને ત્યાર પછી તને તારા ભાઈની આંખમાંથી ફોતરું કાઢવાને સારી રીતે દેખાશે.
43 There is no such thing as a good tree bearing worthless fruit, or, on the other hand, a worthless tree bearing good fruit.
૪૩કોઈ સારા વૃક્ષને ખરાબ ફળ આવતું નથી; વળી કોઈ ખરાબ ઝાડને સારું ફળ આવતું નથી.
44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. People do not gather figs off thorn bushes, nor pick a bunch of grapes off a bramble.
૪૪દરેક ઝાડ પોતાનાં ફળથી ઓળખાય છે; કેમ કે કાંટાનાં ઝાડ પરથી લોકો અંજીર વીણતા નથી, અને ઝાંખરાં પરથી દ્રાક્ષ વીણતા નથી.
45 A good man, from the good stores of his heart, brings out what is good; while a bad man, from his bad stores, brings out what is bad. For what fills a man’s heart will rise to his lips.
૪૫સારો માણસ પોતાના મનના ભંડારમાંથી સારુ કાઢે છે; ખરાબ માણસ પોતાના મનના ખરાબ ભંડારમાંથી ખરાબ કાઢે છે; કારણ કે મનમાં જે ભરપૂર ભરેલું હોય તે જ મુખથી બોલાય છે.
46 Why do you call me ‘Master! Master!’ and yet fail to do what I tell you?
૪૬તમે મને પ્રભુ, પ્રભુ, કેમ કહો છો, અને જે હું કહું છું તે કરતા નથી?
47 Every one who comes to me and listens to my teaching and acts upon it — I will show you to whom he may be compared.
૪૭જે કોઈ મારી પાસે આવે છે, અને મારાં વચન સાંભળે છે તથા પાળે છે, તે કોનાં જેવા છે, એ હું તમને કહીશ.
48 He may be compared to a man building a house, who dug, and went deep, and laid the foundation upon the rock. Then, when a flood came, the river swept down upon that house, but had no power to shake it, because it had been built well.
૪૮તે એક ઘર બાંધનાર માણસના જેવો છે, જેણે ઊંડું ખોદીને ખડક પર પાયો નાખ્યો; અને જયારે પૂર આવ્યું, ત્યારે તે ઘરને નદીનો સપાટો લાગ્યો, પણ તેને હલાવી ન શક્યો, કેમ કે તે મજબૂત બાંધેલું હતું.
49 But those who have listened and not acted upon what they have heard may be compared to a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation. The river swept down upon it, and the house immediately collapsed; and great was the crash that followed.”
૪૯પણ જે મારાં વચનને સાંભળે છે પણ તે પ્રમાણે કરતો નથી તે આ માણસના જેવો છે કે જેણે પાયો નાખ્યા વિના જમીન પર ઘર બાંધ્યું; અને તે નદીમાં પૂર આવ્યું અને તે ઘર તરત પડી ગયું; અને તે ઘરનો સંપૂર્ણ નાશ થયો.’”
