Luke 2
1 About that time an edict was issued by the Emperor Augustus that a census should be taken of the whole Empire.
૧તે દિવસોમાં કાઈસાર ઓગસ્તસે ફરમાન બહાર પાડયું કે, સર્વ દેશોના લોકોની વસ્તીગણતરી કરવામાં આવે.
2 (This was the first census taken while Quirinius was Governor of Syria).
૨કુરેનિયસ સિરિયા પ્રાંતનો રાજ્યપાલ હતો, તેના વખતમાં એ પ્રથમ વસ્તીગણતરી હતી.
3 And every one went to his own town to be registered.
૩બધા લોકો પોતાનાં નામ નોંધાવવા સારુ પોતપોતાનાં નગરમાં ગયા.
4 Among others Joseph went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem, the town of David, in Judea — because he belonged to the family and house of David —
૪યૂસફ પણ ગાલીલના નાસરેથ શહેરમાંથી યહૂદિયામાં દાઉદનું શહેર જે બેથલેહેમ કહેવાય છે તેમાં,
5 To be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was about to become a mother.
૫પોતાનું તથા પોતાની ગર્ભવતી વેવિશાળી પત્ની મરિયમનું નામ નોંધાવવા ગયો, કેમ કે તે દાઉદના વંશ તથા કુળમાંનો હતો.
6 While they were there her time came,
૬તેઓ ત્યાં હતાં, એટલામાં મરિયમના પ્રસવાવસ્થાના દિવસો પૂરા થયા.
7 and she gave birth to her first child, a son. And because there was no room for them in the inn, she swathed him round and laid him in a manger.
૭અને તેણે પોતાના પ્રથમ દીકરાને જન્મ આપ્યો; તેને વસ્ત્રમાં લપેટીને ગભાણમાં સુવડાવ્યો, કારણ કે તેઓને સારુ ધર્મશાળામાં કંઈ જગ્યા નહોતી.
8 In that same country-side were shepherds out in the open fields, watching their flocks that night,
૮તે દેશમાં ઘેટાંપાળકો રાત્રે ખેતરમાં રહીને પોતાનાં ઘેટાંને સાચવતા હતા.
9 when an angel of the Lord suddenly stood by them, and the Glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were seized with fear.
૯પ્રભુનો એક સ્વર્ગદૂત તેઓની આગળ પ્રગટ થયો, પ્રભુના ગૌરવનો પ્રકાશ તેઓની આસપાસ પ્રકાશ્યો, તેથી તેઓ ઘણાં ભયભીત થયા.
10 “Have no fear,” the angel said. “For I bring you good news of a great joy in store for all the nation.
૧૦સ્વર્ગદૂતે તેઓને કહ્યું કે ‘બીશો નહીં; કેમ કે, જુઓ, હું મોટા આનંદની સુવાર્તા તમને કહું છું, અને તે સર્વ લોકોને માટે થશે;
11 This day there has been born to you, in the town of David, a Saviour, who is Christ and Lord.
૧૧કેમ કે આજ દાઉદના શહેરમાં તમારે સારુ એક ઉદ્ધારક, એટલે ખ્રિસ્ત પ્રભુ જનમ્યાં છે.
12 And this shall be the sign for you. You will find the infant swathed, and lying in a manger.”
૧૨તમારે માટે એ નિશાની છે કે, તમે એક બાળકને વસ્ત્રમાં લપેટેલું તથા ગભાણમાં સૂતેલું જોશો.’”
13 Then suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly Host, praising God, and singing —
૧૩પછી એકાએક સ્વર્ગદૂતની સાથે આકાશના બીજા સ્વર્ગદૂતોનો સમુદાય પ્રગટ થયો; તેઓ ઈશ્વરની સ્તુતિ કરીને કહેતાં હતા કે,
14 “Glory to God on high, And on earth peace among men in whom he finds pleasure.”
૧૪‘સ્વર્ગમાં ઈશ્વરને મહિમા, તથા પૃથ્વી પર જે માણસો વિષે તે પ્રસન્ન છે, તેઓ મધ્યે શાંતિ થાઓ.’”
15 Now, when the angels had left them and gone back to Heaven, the shepherds said to one another: “Let us go at once to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has happened, of which the Lord has told us.”
૧૫જયારે સ્વર્ગદૂતો તેઓની પાસેથી આકાશમાં ગયા તે પછી, ઘેટાંપાળકોએ એકબીજાને કહ્યું કે, ‘ચાલો, આપણે બેથલેહેમ જઈને આ બનેલી બિના જેની ખબર પ્રભુએ આપણને આપી છે તે જોઈએ.’”
16 So they went quickly, and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in a manger;
૧૬તેઓ ઉતાવળથી ગયા, અને મરિયમને, યૂસફને, તથા ગભાણમાં સૂતેલા બાળકને જોયા.
17 and, when they saw it, they told of all that had been said to them about this child.
૧૭તેઓને જોયા પછી જે વાત એ બાળક સંબંધી તેઓને કહેવામાં આવી હતી, તે તેઓએ કહી બતાવી.
18 All who heard the shepherds were astonished at their story,
૧૮જે વાતો ઘેટાંપાળકોએ કહી, તેથી સઘળા સાંભળનારાઓ આશ્ચર્ય પામ્યા,
19 while Mary treasured up all that they said, and dwelt upon it in her thoughts.
૧૯પણ મરિયમ એ સઘળી વાતો મનમાં રાખીને વારંવાર તે વિષે વિચાર કરતી રહી.
20 And the shepherds went back, giving glory and praise to God for all that they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
૨૦ઘેટાંપાળકોને જે કહેવામાં આવ્યું હતું તે તેઓએ બધું સાંભળ્યું તથા જોયું, તેથી તેઓ ઈશ્વરનો મહિમા તથા સ્તુતિ કરતા પોતાનાં ઘેટાં પાસે પાછા ગયા.
21 Eight days after the birth of the child, when it was time to circumcise him, he received the name Jesus — the name given him by the angel before his conception.
૨૧આઠ દિવસ પૂરા થયા પછી બાળકની સુન્નત કરવાનો વખત આવ્યો, તેમનું નામ ઈસુ પાડવામાં આવ્યું, જે નામ, જન્મ પહેલાં સ્વર્ગદૂતે આપ્યું હતું.
22 When the period of purification of mother and child, enjoined by the Law of Moses, came to an end, his parents took the child up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord,
૨૨મૂસાના નિયમશાસ્ત્ર પ્રમાણે તેઓના શુદ્ધિકરણના દિવસો પૂરા થયા,
23 in compliance with the Law of the Lord that ‘every first-born male shall be dedicated to the Lord,’
૨૩ત્યારે જેમ પ્રભુના નિયમશાસ્ત્રમાં લખેલું છે કે, પ્રથમ જન્મેલો દરેક બાળક પ્રભુને સારુ પવિત્ર કહેવાય, તે પ્રમાણે તેઓ તેને પ્રભુની સમક્ષ રજૂ કરવાને,
24 And also to offer the sacrifice enjoined in the Law of the Lord — ‘a pair of turtle-doves or two young pigeons.’
૨૪તથા પ્રભુના નિયમશાસ્ત્રમાં કહ્યાં પ્રમાણે એક જોડ હોલાને અથવા કબૂતરનાં બે બચ્ચાનું બલિદાન કરવા સારુ, તેને યરુશાલેમમાં લાવ્યાં.
25 There was at that time in Jerusalem a man named Simeon, a righteous and devout man, who lived in constant expectation of the Consolation of Israel, and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
૨૫ત્યારે જુઓ, શિમયોન નામે એક માણસ યરુશાલેમમાં હતો, તે ન્યાયી તથા ધાર્મિક હતો, તે ઇઝરાયલને દિલાસો મળે તેની રાહ જોતો હતો, અને પવિત્ર આત્મા તેના પર હતો.
26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not die until he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
૨૬પવિત્ર આત્માએ તેને જણાવ્યું હતું કે, ‘પ્રભુના ખ્રિસ્તને જોયા પહેલાં તું મરશે નહિ.’”
27 Moved by the Spirit, Simeon came into the Temple Courts, and, when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the Law,
૨૭તે આત્માની પ્રેરણાથી ભક્તિસ્થાનમાં આવ્યો, ત્યાં નિયમશાસ્ત્રની વિધિ પ્રમાણે કરવા માટે બાળક ઈસુના માતાપિતા તેમને સિમયોનની પાસે લાવ્યા.
28 Simeon himself took the child in his arms, and blessed God, and said:
૨૮ત્યારે તેણે બાળકને હાથમાં ઊંચકીને ઈશ્વરની સ્તુતિ કરીને કહ્યું કે,
29 “Now, Lord, thou wilt let thy servant go, According to thy word, in peace,
૨૯‘હે પ્રભુ, હવે તમારા વચન પ્રમાણે તમે તમારા સેવકને શાંતિથી જવા દો;
30 for my eyes have seen the Salvation
૩૦કેમ કે મારી આંખોએ તમારો ઉદ્ધાર જોયો છે,
31 Which thou hast prepared in the sight of all nations —
૩૧જેને તમે સર્વ લોકોની સન્મુંખ તૈયાર કર્યા છે;
32 A Light to bring light to the Gentiles, And to be the Glory of thy people Israel.”
૩૨તેઓ બિનયહૂદીઓ માટે પ્રકટીકરણનો પ્રકાશ અને તમારા ઇઝરાયલી લોકોનો મહિમા છે.’”
33 While the child’s father and mother were wondering at what was said about him,
૩૩તેમના બાળક સંબંધી જે વાતો કહેવામાં આવી, તેથી તેમના માતાપિતા આશ્ચર્ય પામ્યા.
34 Simeon gave them his blessing, and said to Mary, the child’s mother: “This child is appointed to be the cause of the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign much spoken against —
૩૪શિમયોને તેઓને આશીર્વાદ આપ્યો, અને તેમની મા મરિયમને કહ્યું કે, ‘જો, આ બાળક ઇઝરાયલમાંનાં ઘણાંનાં પડવા, તથા પાછા ઊઠવા સારુ, તથા જેની વિરુદ્ધ વાંધા લેવામાં આવે તેની નિશાની થવા સારુ ઠરાવેલો છે.
35 Yes, the sword will pierce your own heart — and so the thoughts in many minds will be disclosed.”
૩૫હા, તારા પોતાના જીવને તલવાર વીંધી નાખશે; એ માટે કે ઘણાં મનોની કલ્પના પ્રગટ થાય.’”
36 There was also a Prophetess named Hannah, a daughter of Phanuel and of the tribe of Asher. She was far advanced in years, having lived with her husband for seven years after marriage,
૩૬આશેરના કુળની ફનુએલની દીકરી હાન્ના, એક પ્રબોધિકા હતી. તે ઘણી વૃદ્ધ થઈ હતી. અને તે પોતાનાં લગ્ન પછી પોતાના પતિની સાથે સાત વર્ષ સુધી રહી હતી.
37 and then a widow, till she had reached the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple Courts, but, fasting and praying, worshiped God night and day.
૩૭તે ચોર્યાસી વર્ષથી વિધવા હતી; તે ભક્તિસ્થાનમાં જ રહેતી હતી, અને રાતદિવસ ઉપવાસ તથા પ્રાર્થનાસહિત ભજન કર્યા કરતી હતી.
38 At that moment she came up, and began publicly to thank God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the deliverance of Jerusalem.
૩૮તેણે તે જ ઘડીએ ત્યાં આવીને ઈશ્વરની સ્તુતિ કરી, અને જેઓ યરુશાલેમના ઉદ્ધારની રાહ જોતાં હતા તે સઘળાને તે બાળક સંબંધી વાત કરી.
39 When the child’s parents had done everything enjoined by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.
૩૯તેઓ પ્રભુના નિયમશાસ્ત્ર પ્રમાણે બધું કરી ચૂક્યા પછી ગાલીલમાં પોતાના શહેર નાસરેથમાં પાછા ગયા.
40 The child grew and became strong and wise, and the blessing of God was upon him.
૪૦ત્યાં તે છોકરો મોટો થયો, અને જ્ઞાનથી ભરપૂર થઈને બળવાન થયો, અને ઈશ્વરની કૃપા તેના પર હતી.
41 Every year the child’s parents used to go to Jerusalem at the Passover Festival.
૪૧તેનાં માતાપિતા વરસોવરસ પાસ્ખાપર્વમાં યરુશાલેમ જતા હતાં.
42 When Jesus was twelve years old, they went according to custom to Jerusalem,
૪૨જયારે ઈસુ બાર વરસના થયા, ત્યારે તેઓ રિવાજ પ્રમાણે પર્વમાં ત્યાં ગયા.
43 and had finished their visit; but, when they started to return, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, without their knowing it.
૪૩પર્વના દિવસો પૂરા કરીને તેઓ પાછા જવા લાગ્યાં, ત્યારે ઈસુ યરુશાલેમમાં રોકાઈ ગયા, અને તેમના માતાપિતાને તેની ખબર પડી નહિ.
44 Thinking that he was with their fellow-travellers, they went one day’s journey before searching for him among their relations and acquaintances;
૪૪પણ તે સમૂહમાં હશે, એમ ધારીને તેઓએ એક દિવસ સુધી મુસાફરી કરી અને પછી પોતાનાં સગામાં તથા ઓળખીતામાં ઈસુને શોધ્યા.
45 and then, as they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching everywhere for him.
૪૫ઈસુ તેઓને મળ્યા નહિ, ત્યારે તેઓ તેમને શોધતાં શોધતાં યરુશાલેમમાં પાછા ગયા.
46 It was not till the third day that they found him in the Temple Courts, sitting among the Teachers, now listening to them, now asking them questions.
૪૬ત્રણ દિવસ પછી તેઓએ તેમને ભક્તિસ્થાનમાં ધર્મગુરુઓની વચમાં બેઠેલા, તેઓનું સાંભળતાં તથા તેઓને સવાલો પૂછતાં જોયા.
47 All who listened to him marvelled at his intelligence and his answers.
૪૭જેઓએ તેમનું સાંભળ્યું તેઓ બધા તેમની બુદ્ધિથી તથા તેમના ઉત્તરોથી વિસ્મિત થયા.
48 His parents were amazed when they saw him, and his mother said to him: “My child, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.”
૪૮તેમને જોઈને તેમના માતાપિતા આશ્ચર્ય પામ્યા; અને તેમની માએ તેમને કહ્યું કે, ‘દીકરા, અમારી સાથે તું આવી રીતે કેમ વર્ત્યો? જો, તારા પિતાએ તથા મેં દુઃખી થઈને તારી કેટલી શોધ કરી!’
49 “What made you search for me?” he answered. “Did not you know that I must be in my Father’s House?”
૪૯ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે ‘તમે મારી શોધ શા માટે કરી? શું તમે જાણતા નહોતાં કે મારે મારા પિતાના ઘરમાં હોવું જોઈએ?’”
50 His parents did not understand what he meant.
૫૦જે વાત ઈસુએ તેઓને કહી તે તેઓ સમજ્યાં નહિ.
51 However he went down with them to Nazareth, and submitted himself to their control; and his mother treasured all that was said in her heart.
૫૧ઈસુ તેઓની સાથે ગયા, અને નાસરેથમાં આવ્યા, માતાપિતાને આધીન રહ્યા અને તેમની માએ એ સઘળી વાતો પોતાના મનમાં રાખી.
52 And Jesus grew in wisdom as he grew in years, and ‘gained the blessing of God and men.’
૫૨ઈસુ જ્ઞાનમાં તથા કદમાં, ઈશ્વરની તથા માણસોની પ્રસન્નતામાં વૃદ્ધિ પામતા ગયા.
