Acts 20

1 When the uproar had ceased, Paul sent for the disciples, and, with encouraging words, bade them goodbye, and started on his journey to Macedonia.

Da nun die Empörung aufgehöret, rief Paulus die Jünger zu sich und segnete sie und ging aus, zu reisen nach Mazedonien.

2 After going through those districts and speaking many encouraging words to the disciples, he went into Greece, where he stayed three months.

Und da er dieselbigen Länder durchzog und sie ermahnet hatte mit vielen Worten, kam er nach Griechenland und verzog allda drei Monden.

3 He was about to sail to Syria, when he learned that a plot had been laid against him by the Jews; so he decided to return by way of Macedonia.

Da aber ihm die Juden nachstelleten, als er nach Syrien wollte fahren, ward er zu Rat, wieder umzuwenden durch Mazedonien

4 He was accompanied by Sopater the son of Pyrrhus, of Beroea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy, as well as by Tychicus and Trophimus of Roman Asia.

Es zogen aber mit ihm bis nach Asien Sopater von Beröa, von Thessalonich aber Aristarchus und Sekundus und Gajus von Derbe und Timotheus, aus Asien aber Tychikus und Trophimus.

5 These men went to Troas and waited for us there;

Diese gingen voran und harreten unser zu Troas.

6 while we ourselves sailed from Philippi after the Passover, and joined them five days later at Troas, where we stayed for a week.

Wir aber schiffeten nach den Ostertagen von Philippi bis an den fünften Tag und kamen zu ihnen gen Troas und hatten da unser Wesen sieben Tage.

7 On the first day of the week, when we had met for the Breaking of Bread, Paul, who was intending to leave the next day, began to address those who were present, and prolonged his address till midnight.

Auf einen Sabbat aber, da die Jünger zusammenkamen, das Brot zu brechen, predigte ihnen Paulus und wollte des andern Tages ausreisen und verzog das Wort bis zu Mitternacht.

8 There were a good many lamps in the upstairs room, where we had met;

Und es waren viel Fackeln auf dem Söller, da sie versammelt waren.

9 and a young man named Eutychus, sitting at the window, was gradually overcome with great drowsiness, as Paul continued his address. At last, quite overpowered by his drowsiness, he fell from the third story to the ground, and was picked up for dead.

Es saß aber ein Jüngling mit Namen Eutychus in einem Fenster und sank in einen tiefen Schlaf, dieweil Paulus so lange redete, und ward vom Schlaf überwogen und fiel hinunter vom dritten Söller und ward tot aufgehoben.

10 But Paul went down, threw himself upon him, and put his arms round him. “Do not be alarmed,” he said, “he is still alive.”

Paulus aber ging hinab und fiel auf ihn, umfing ihn und sprach: Machet kein Getümmel; denn seine Seele ist in ihm.

11 Then he went upstairs; and, after breaking and partaking of the Bread, he talked with them at great length till daybreak, and then left.

Da ging er hinauf und brach das Brot und aß und redete viel mit ihnen, bis der Tag anbrach; und also zog er aus.

12 Meanwhile they had taken the lad away alive, and were greatly comforted.

Sie brachten aber den Knaben lebendig und wurden nicht wenig getröstet.

13 We started first, went on board ship, and sailed for Assos, intending to take Paul on board there. This was by his own arrangement, as he intended to go by land himself.

Wir aber zogen voran auf dem Schiff und fuhren gen Assos und wollten daselbst Paulus zu uns nehmen; denn er hatte es also befohlen, und er wollte zu Fuße gehen.

14 So, when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and went on to Mitylene.

Als er nun zu uns schlug zu Assos, nahmen wir ihn zu uns und kamen gen Mitylene.

15 The day after we had sailed from there, we arrived off Chios, touched at Samos the following day, and the next day reached Miletus;

Und von dannen schifften wir und kamen des andern Tages hin gen Chios; und des folgenden Tages stießen wir an Samos und blieben in Trogyllion; und des nächsten Tages kamen wir gen Milet.

16 for Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so as to avoid spending much time in Roman Asia. He was making haste to reach Jerusalem, if possible, by the Festival at the close of the Harvest.

Denn Paulus hatte beschlossen, an Ephesus vorüberzuschiffen, daß er nicht müßte in Asien Zeit zubringen; denn er eilete, auf den Pfingsttag zu Jerusalem zu sein, so es ihm möglich wäre.

17 From Miletus, however, he sent to Ephesus and invited the Officers of the Church to meet him;

Aber von Milet sandte er gen Ephesus und ließ fordern die Ältesten von der Gemeinde.

18 and, when they came, he spoke to them as follows: “You know well the life that I always led among you from the very first day that I set foot in Roman Asia,

Als aber die zu ihm kamen, sprach er zu ihnen. Ihr wisset von dem ersten Tage an, da ich bin nach Asien kommen, wie ich allezeit bin bei euch gewesen

19 serving the Lord, as I did, in all humility, amid the tears and trials which fell to my lot through the plots of the Jews.

und dem HERRN gedienet mit aller Demut und mit viel Tränen und Anfechtungen, die mir sind widerfahren von den Juden, so mir nachstelleten;

20 I never shrank from telling you anything that could be helpful to you, or from teaching you both in public and in private.

wie ich nichts verhalten habe, das da nützlich ist, daß ich euch nicht verkündiget hätte und euch gelehret öffentlich und sonderlich.

21 I earnestly pointed both Jews and Greeks to the repentance that leads to God, and to faith in Jesus, our Lord.

Und habe bezeuget beiden, den Juden und Griechen, die Buße zu Gott und den Glauben an unsern HERRN Jesum Christum.

22 And now, under spiritual constraint, I am here on my way to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there,

Und nun siehe, ich, im Geist gebunden, fahre hin gen Jerusalem, weiß nicht, was mir daselbst begegnen wird,

23 except that in town after town the Holy Spirit plainly declares to me that imprisonment and troubles await me.

ohne daß der Heilige Geist in allen Städten bezeuget und spricht: Bande und Trübsal warten mein daselbst.

24 But I count my life of no value to myself, if only I may complete the course marked out for me, and the task that was allotted me by the Lord Jesus — which was to declare the Good News of the Love of God.

Aber ich achte der keines; ich halte mein Leben auch nicht selbst teuer, auf daß ich vollende meinen Lauf mit Freuden und das Amt, das ich empfangen habe von dem HERRN Jesu, zu bezeugen das Evangelium von der Gnade Gottes.

25 And now, I tell you, I know that none of you will ever see my face again — you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the Kingdom.

Und nun siehe, ich weiß, daß ihr mein Angesicht nicht mehr sehen werdet, alle die, durch welche ich gezogen bin und geprediget habe das Reich Gottes.

26 Therefore I declare to you this day, that my conscience is clear in regard to the fate of any of you,

Darum zeuge ich euch an diesem heutigen Tage, daß ich rein bin von aller Blut;

27 for I have not shrunk from announcing the whole purpose of God regarding you.

denn ich habe euch nichts verhalten, daß ich nicht verkündiget hätte alle den Rat Gottes.

28 Be watchful over yourselves, and over the whole flock, of which the Holy Spirit has placed you in charge, to shepherd the Church of God, which he won for himself at the cost of his life.

So habt nun acht auf euch selbst und auf die ganze Herde, unter welche euch der Heilige Geist gesetzet hat zu Bischöfen, zu weiden die Gemeinde Gottes, welche er durch sein eigen Blut erworben hat.

29 I know that, after my departure, merciless wolves will get in among you, who will not spare the flock;

Denn das weiß ich, daß nach meinem Abschied werden unter euch kommen greuliche Wölfe, die die Herde nicht verschonen werden.

30 and from among yourselves, too, men will arise, who will teach perversions of truth, so as to draw away the disciples after them.

Auch aus euch selbst werden aufstehen Männer, die da verkehrte Lehren reden, die Jünger an sich zu ziehen.

31 Therefore, be on your guard, remembering how for three years, night and day, I never ceased, even with tears, to warn each one of you.

Darum seid wacker und denket daran, daß ich nicht abgelassen habe drei Jahre, Tag und Nacht einen jeglichen mit Tränen zu vermahnen.

32 And now I commend you to the Lord and to the Message of his Love — a Message which has the power to build up your characters, and to give you your place among all those who have become Christ’s People.

Und nun, liebe Brüder, ich befehle euch Gott und dem Wort seiner Gnade, der da mächtig ist, euch zu erbauen und zu geben das Erbe unter allen, die geheiliget werden.

33 I have never coveted any one’s gold or silver or clothing.

Ich habe euer keines Silber noch Gold noch Kleid begehrt

34 You, yourselves, know that these hands of mine provided not only for my own wants, but for my companions also.

Denn ihr wisset selber, daß mir diese Hände zu meiner Notdurft und derer, die mit mir gewesen sind, gedienet haben.

35 I left nothing undone to show you that, labouring as I laboured, you ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said himself — ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Ich habe es euch alles gezeiget, daß man also arbeiten müsse und die Schwachen aufnehmen und gedenken an das Wort des HERRN Jesu, das er gesagt hat: Geben ist seliger denn Nehmen.

36 When Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down and prayed with them all.

Und als er solches gesagt, kniete er nieder und betete mit ihnen allen.

37 All were in tears; and throwing their arms round Paul’s neck, they kissed him again and again,

Es ward aber viel Weinens unter ihnen allen, und fielen Paulus um den Hals und küsseten ihn,

38 grieving most of all over what he had said — that they would never see his face again. Then they escorted him to the ship.

am allermeisten betrübt über dem Wort, das er sagte, sie würden sein Angesicht nicht mehr sehen. Und geleiteten ihn in das Schiff.
