< 1 John 3 >
1 Think what love the Father has shown us in allowing us to be called ‘Children of God’; as indeed we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it has not learned to know him.
¡Chiwilampeꞌ! Sibꞌalaj nim ri loqꞌanik ri xuya ri qatat Dios chaqe, rumal riꞌ kubꞌij chi uj ralkꞌwaꞌl, qas uj ralkꞌwaꞌl kꞌu wi, ri winaq ri man e kojonelabꞌ taj man ketaꞌm taj uj jachin uj, jeriꞌ rumal cher man ketaꞌm taj uwach ri Cristo.
2 Dear friends, we are God’s Children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is that, when it is revealed, we shall be like Christ; because we shall see him as he is.
Loqꞌalaj taq qachalal, uj ralkꞌwaꞌl chi ri Dios kamik, majaꞌ kꞌu kaqꞌalajinik jas qas kujux na. Xwi qetaꞌm chi are kape ri Cristo kujjunumataj na rukꞌ Areꞌ, jeriꞌ rumal kaqil na uwach.
3 And every one who has this hope with regard to Christ tries to make himself pure — as Christ is pure.
Xapachin ri jeqel ukꞌuꞌx pa Cristo man kamakun ta riꞌ jacha ri Cristo man kamakun taj.
4 Every one who lives sinfully is living in violation of Law. Sin is violation of Law.
Ri winaq ri kubꞌan mak kuqꞌipij ri taqanik; xuqujeꞌ man nimanel taj che.
5 And you know that Christ appeared to take away our sins; and in him Sin has no place.
Iwetaꞌm kꞌut chi ri Cristo xpetik chuchupik ri qamak. Xuqujeꞌ Areꞌ man kꞌo ta umak.
6 No one who maintains union with him lives in sin; no one who lives in sin has ever really seen him or learned to know him.
Ri winaq ri kꞌo pa Cristo man are ta karilij ubꞌanik ri mak. Ri winaq ri are karilij ubꞌanik mak man rilom taj xuqujeꞌ man retaꞌmam ta uwach ri Cristo.
7 My Children, do not let any one mislead you. He who lives righteously is righteous — as Christ is righteous.
Loqꞌalaj taq walkꞌwaꞌl, kꞌo mixsubꞌuwik. Ri winaq ri kubꞌan ri sukꞌal, sukꞌ winaq riꞌ, jetaq ri Cristo.
8 He who lives sinfully belongs to the Devil, for the Devil has sinned from the first. It was for this that the Son of God appeared, that he might undo the Devil’s work.
Ri winaq ri are karilij ubꞌanik mak rech ri Itzel riꞌ, jeriꞌ rumal ri Itzel xaq are wi rilim loq ubꞌanik ri mak pa ri majibꞌal rech ronojel. Rumal riꞌ ri Cristo xtaq loq chutukixik ri uchak ri Itzel.
9 No one who has received the new Life from God lives sinfully, because the very nature of God dwells within him; and he cannot live in sin, because he has received the new Life from God.
Ri xalax chi junmul pa Cristo man are ta karilij ubꞌanik riꞌ ri mak, jeriꞌ rumal xya jun ijaꞌ rech ri Dios pa ri ukꞌaslemal rech man are ta karilij ubꞌanik ri mak.
10 By this the Children of God are distinguished from the Children of the Devil — No one who lives unrighteously comes from God, and especially the man who does not love his Brother.
Jeriꞌ kaqꞌalajinik jachin ri ralkꞌwaꞌl ri Dios xuqujeꞌ jachin ri ralkꞌwaꞌl ri Itzel. Ri man kubꞌan ta ri sukꞌal xuqujeꞌ man kuloqꞌaj taj ri rachalal man ralkꞌwaꞌl ta ri Dios riꞌ.
11 For these are the Tidings that we heard from the first — that we are to love one another.
Ri utz laj tzij ri itatabꞌem loq pa ri majibꞌal rech ronojel, are chi kaqaloqꞌaj qibꞌ chqajujunal.
12 We must not be like Cain, who belonged to the Evil One and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? It was because his life was bad while his brother’s was good.
Man kaqesaj taj uwach ri Caín, are waꞌ ri xuya bꞌe xok ri Itzel che rumal riꞌ xukamisaj ri rachalal Abel. ¿Jas che jewaꞌ xubꞌano? Jeriꞌ xubꞌano rumal are xrilij ubꞌanik itzel taq chak, are kꞌu ri uchak ri rachalal sibꞌalaj utz.
13 Do not wonder, Brothers, if the world hates you.
Wachalal, man kixmayjan taj we kixketzelaj ri winaq ri man e kojonelabꞌ taj.
14 We know that we have passed out of Death into Life, because we love our Brothers. The man who does not love remains in a state of Death.
Qetaꞌm uj chi uj kaminaq kan nabꞌe xa kꞌu xya chi na qakꞌaslemal rumal riꞌ keꞌqaloqꞌaj ri e qachalal. Ri winaq ri man kaloqꞌan taj rech ri kamikal riꞌ.
15 Every one who hates his Brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has Immortal Life within him. (aiōnios )
Ri karetzelaj ri rachalal jun kamisanel riꞌ, iwetaꞌm kꞌut chi maj jun kamisanel kakwinik kok pa ri jun alik kꞌaslemal. (aiōnios )
16 We have learned to know what love is from this — that Christ laid down his life on our behalf. Therefore we also ought to lay down our lives on behalf of our Brothers.
Ri uj qetaꞌm jas ubꞌanik ri loqꞌanik are chi ri Jesucristo xuya ri ukꞌaslemal rumal qe. Je xuqujeꞌ rajawaxik kaqabꞌan uj, rajawaxik kaqaya ri qakꞌaslemal pa kiwiꞌ ri e qachalal.
17 But, if any one has worldly possessions, and yet looks on while his Brother is in want, and steels his heart against him, how can it be said that the love of God is within him?
We kꞌo jun chiꞌwe sibꞌalaj qꞌinom karil kꞌu ri rachalal chi kajawataj ujastaq man kel ta kꞌu ukꞌuꞌx che, man kakwin ta riꞌ kubꞌij chi kꞌo ri loqꞌanik rech ri Dios pa ranimaꞌ.
18 My children, do not let our love be mere words, or end in talk; let it be true and show itself in acts.
Loqꞌalaj taq walkꞌwaꞌl, man xaq xwi ta kaqabꞌij rukꞌ ri qachiꞌ chi ku qas qakꞌutu rukꞌ ri kaqabꞌano.
19 By that we shall know that we are on the side of the Truth; and we shall satisfy ourselves in God’s sight,
Rukꞌ waꞌ qas kaqetaꞌmaj chi uj kꞌo pa ri qas tzij xuqujeꞌ kaqanaꞌo chi utz qaꞌnik cho ri Dios.
20 that if our conscience condemns us, yet God is greater than our conscience and knows everything.
Pune ri qanimaꞌ man kuqꞌat ta tzij pa qawiꞌ, ri Dios retaꞌm ronojel, areꞌ nim choch ri qanimaꞌ.
21 Dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, then we approach God with confidence,
Loqꞌalaj taq qachalal, we kaqanaꞌo chi ri qanimaꞌ man kuqꞌat ta tzij pa qawiꞌ rumal ri xqabꞌano, kꞌo ukuꞌlibꞌal qakꞌuꞌx riꞌ che ri Dios.
22 and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we are laying his commands to heart, and are doing what is pleasing in his sight.
Xuqujeꞌ kaqakꞌamawaꞌj na ronojel ri kaqata che ri Dios, jeriꞌ rumal kaqanimaj ri utaqanik xuqujeꞌ kaqabꞌan ri taqalik choch ri Dios.
23 His Command is this — that we should put our trust in the Name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, in accordance with the Command that he gave us.
Ri utaqanik ri Dios are chi kujkojon che ri Jesucristo, ri ukꞌojol, xuqujeꞌ kaqaloqꞌaj qibꞌ chiqajujunal, rumal jeriꞌ karaj kaqabꞌano.
24 And he who lays his commands to heart maintains union with Christ, and Christ with him. And by this we know that Christ maintains union with us — by our possession of the Spirit which he gave us.
Ri kunimaj ri uꞌtaqanik ri Dios, qas kꞌo riꞌ pa Dios, xuqujeꞌ ri Dios kꞌo pa ranimaꞌ ri winaq riꞌ. Are ri Uxlabꞌixel ri xuya chaqe kujtoꞌwik chi retaꞌmaxik chi qas kꞌo ri Dios pa qanimaꞌ.
