< Psalms 38 >

1 Yahweh, when you are angry [with me], do not rebuke/scold me and punish me!
Ko e Saame ʻa Tevita, ko e fakamanatu. ‌ʻE Sihova, ʻoua naʻa ke valokiʻi au ʻi ho houhau: pea ʻoua naʻa ke valokiʻi au ʻi ho houhau vela.
2 [Now it is as though] you have shot your arrows at me and wounded me; you have struck me and knocked me down.
He ʻoku tau maʻu ʻiate au hoʻo ngaahi ngahau, pea ʻoku taʻomia fakamamahi au ʻe ho nima.
3 Because you have been angry with me, I am suffering great pain. Because of my sin, my whole body is diseased.
‌ʻOku ʻikai ha haohaoa ʻi hoku kakano ko e meʻa ʻi ho houhau; pea ʻoku ʻikai ha fiemālie ʻi hoku hui ko e meʻa ʻi heʻeku angahala.
4 All my sins are [like a flood] that covers my head; they are like a load that is very heavy, with the result that I cannot carry it.
He kuo hake ʻa ʻeku ngaahi hia ʻo ʻufiʻufi hoku ʻulu: ʻo hangē ko e kavenga mamafa ʻoku taʻomia ai au.
5 Because I have done foolish things, I have sores that have become worse, and they stink.
‌ʻOku ʻeho hoku ngaahi lavea ʻo fakalielia koeʻuhi ko ʻeku vale.
6 [Sometimes] I am bent over, and [sometimes] I lie prostrate; I am sad/cry all day.
‌ʻOku ou mamahi; ʻoku ou mapelu ki lalo ʻaupito; ʻoku ou ʻalu mamahi pe ʻi he ʻaho kotoa.
7 My body is burning with fever, and I am very ill.
He ʻoku fonu hoku sino ʻi he mahaki kovi: pea ʻoku ʻikai ha moʻui haohaoa ʻi hoku kakano.
8 I am completely exhausted, and I have no strength. I am very distressed, and I groan with pain.
‌ʻOku ou vaivai mo mafesi ʻi he mamahi: naʻaku kalanga ko e meʻa ʻi he mamahi ʻo hoku loto.
9 Yahweh, you know that I desire [to be healed]; you hear me while I am groaning.
‌ʻE ʻEiki, ʻoku ʻi ho ʻao ʻeku holi kotoa pē; mo ʻeku ngaahi toʻe ʻoku ʻikai fufū ʻiate koe.
10 My heat is pounding heavily, and all my strength is gone. I am no longer able to see well.
‌ʻOku tatupe hoku mafu, kuo ʻosi ʻeku mālohi: pea ko e maama ʻo hoku mata kuo mole foki ia ʻiate au.
11 My friends and neighbors stay away from me because of my sores; even my own family stays away from me.
Ko hoku kaumeʻa ʻofa mo hoku ngaahi kāinga ʻoku nau tutuʻu ʻi he mamaʻo mei hoku teʻia; mo hoku kaungāʻapi ʻoku nau tutuʻu ʻi he mamaʻo.
12 And those who want to kill me set traps to catch me; those who want to harm me discuss ways to get rid of me; they plot against me all day.
Ko kinautolu foki ʻoku kumi ki heʻeku moʻui ʻoku nau tō ʻae ngaahi tauhele kiate au: ko kinautolu ʻoku kumi ke u kovi ʻoku nau lea ʻaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa kovi, mo nau fakakaukau ki he meʻa kākā ʻi he ʻaho kotoa.
13 Now I act like I’m deaf, and do not listen [to what they say]. I act like I cannot talk, so I say nothing [to reply to them].
Ka ko au, hangē ko ha tuli, ʻoku ʻikai te u ongoʻi; pea naʻaku hangē ko e tangata ʻoku noa ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai mafaʻa hono ngutu.
14 I act like a man who does not answer [when people talk to him], because he cannot hear anything.
Pea naʻaku hangē ko e tangata taʻeongoʻi, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha valoki ʻi hono ngutu.
15 But Yahweh, I trust in you. My Lord God, you will answer me.
He ʻoku ou ʻamanaki lelei, ʻE Sihova, kiate koe: te ke ongoʻi, ʻE ʻEiki ko hoku ʻOtua.
16 I said to you, “Do not cause [me to die, with the result that] my enemies will rejoice! Do not cause me to stumble, with the result that they will be very happy!”
He naʻaku pehē, “Fanongo kiate au, telia naʻa nau fiefia kiate au: ʻi he hekea ʻa hoku vaʻe, ʻoku nau hiki hake ʻakinautolu kiate au.”
17 I say that because I am about to fall down, and I constantly have pain.
He ʻoku ou meimei nofo, pea ʻoku tuʻumaʻu pe ʻeku mamahi ʻi hoku ʻao.
18 I confess the wrong things that I have done; I am [very] sorry for the sins that I have committed.
He te u fakahā ʻeku hia; pea u mamahi koeʻuhi ko ʻeku angahala.
19 My enemies are healthy and strong; there are many people who hate me for no reason.
Ka ʻoku moʻui hoku ngaahi fili, pea ʻoku nau mālohi: pea ʻoku fakaʻaʻau ʻo tokolahi ʻakinautolu ʻoku fehiʻa taʻetotonu kiate au.
20 Those who do evil things to me in return for my doing good things to them oppose me because I try to do what is right.
Pea ko hoku ngaahi fili foki ʻakinautolu ʻoku totongi kovi ki he lelei; koeʻuhi ʻoku ou muimui ki he lelei.
21 Yahweh, do not abandon me! My God, do not stay far from me!
‌ʻOua naʻa ke liʻaki au, ʻE Sihova: ʻE hoku ʻOtua, ʻoua naʻa ke mamaʻo ʻiate au.
22 Lord, you are the one who saves/rescues me; Quickly [come and] help me!
Ke ke fakatoʻotoʻo ke tokoni au, ʻE ʻEiki ko hoku fakamoʻui.
