Psalms 136

1 Thank Yahweh, because he does good things [for us]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

O give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

2 Thank God, the one who is greater than all other gods; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

O give praise to the God of gods: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

3 Thank the Lord who is greater than all other lords/rulers; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

O give praise to the Lord of lords: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

4 He is the only one who performs great miracles; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

To him who only does great wonders: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

5 He is the one who by being very wise created the heavens; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

To him who by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

6 He is the one who caused the ground to rise up above the deep waters; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

To him by whom the earth was stretched out over the waters: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

7 He is the one who created great lights [in the sky]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

To him who made great lights: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

8 He created the sun to shine in the daytime; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

The sun to have rule by day: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

9 He created the moon and stars to shine during the nighttime; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

The moon and the stars to have rule by night: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

10 He is the one who killed the firstborn [males] in Egypt; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

To him who put to death the first-fruits of Egypt: for his mercy is unchanging for ever:

11 He led the Israeli people out of Egypt; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

And took out Israel from among them: for his mercy is unchanging for ever:

12 With his (strong hand/great power) he led them out; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

With a strong hand and an outstretched arm: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

13 He is the one who caused the Red Sea to divide; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

To him who made a way through the Red Sea: for his mercy is unchanging for ever:

14 He enabled the Israeli people to walk through it [on dry land]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

And let Israel go through it: for his mercy is unchanging for ever:

15 But he caused the king of Egypt and his army to drown in it; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

By him Pharaoh and his army were overturned in the Red Sea: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

16 He is the one who led his people [safely through the desert]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

To him who took his people through the waste land: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

17 He killed powerful kings; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

To him who overcame great kings: for his mercy is unchanging for ever:

18 He killed kings who were famous; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

And put noble kings to death: for his mercy is unchanging for ever:

19 He killed Sihon, the king of the Amor people-group; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

Sihon, king of the Amorites: for his mercy is unchanging for ever:

20 He killed Og, the king of Bashan [region]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

And Og, king of Bashan: for his mercy is unchanging for ever:

21 He gave their lands to us, his people; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

And gave their land to his people for a heritage: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

22 He gave those lands to us people of Israel, who serve him; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

Even a heritage for his servant Israel: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

23 He is the one who did not forget about us when we were defeated [by our enemies]; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

Who kept us in mind when we were in trouble: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

24 He rescued us from our enemies; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

And has taken us out of the hands of our haters: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

25 He is the one who gives food to all living creatures; his faithful love [for us] endures forever.

Who gives food to all flesh: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

26 [So] thank God, [who lives in] heaven, [for all those things], because his faithful love [for us] endures forever!

O give praise to the God of heaven: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.
