Psalms 121

1 [When we travel toward Jerusalem], I look up toward the hills [and I ask myself], “Who will help me?”

Een bedevaartslied. Ik hef mijn ogen omhoog naar de bergen: "Vanwaar komt mijn hulp?"

2 [And my answer is] that Yahweh is the one who helps me; he is the one who made heaven and the earth.

Mijn hulp komt van Jahweh, Die hemel en aarde heeft gemaakt!

3 He will not allow us to fall/stumble; God, who protects us, will not fall asleep.

Neen, Hij laat uw voeten niet struikelen, Hij slaapt niet, uw Wachter;

4 The one who protects us Israeli people never gets sleepy, nor does he sleep [LIT].

Neen, Hij sluimert noch dommelt, Israëls Beschermer!

5 Yahweh watches over us; he is like the shade [MET] [that protects us from the sun].

Jahweh is uw Behoeder, Uw schaduw aan uw rechterhand:

6 [He will not allow] the sun to harm us during the day, and [he will not allow] the moon to harm us during the night.

Overdag zal de zon u niet hinderen, En de maan niet des nachts.

7 Yahweh will protect us from being harmed in any manner; he will keep us safe.

Jahweh behoedt u voor iedere ramp, Hij is bezorgd voor uw leven;

8 He will protect us from the time that we leave [our houses in the morning] until we return [in the evening]; he will protect us now, and he will protect us forever.

Jahweh waakt over uw komen en gaan Van nu af tot in eeuwigheid.
