< Psalms 116 >

1 I love Yahweh, because he hears me when I cry for him to help me.
‌ʻOku ou ʻofa kia Sihova, koeʻuhi kuo ne ongoʻi hoku leʻo mo ʻeku lotu tāumaʻu.
2 He listens to me, so I will call out to him all during my life.
Koeʻuhi kuo ne fakatokangaʻi hono fofonga kiate au, ko ia te u ui ai ki heʻene ʻafio ʻi hoku ngaahi ʻaho.
3 Everything around me [MET] caused me to think that I would die; I was very afraid that I would [die and go to] the place where dead people are. I was very distressed/worried and afraid. (Sheol h7585)
Naʻe kāpui au ʻe he ngaahi mamahi ʻoe mate, pea naʻe puke au ʻe he ngaahi mamahi ʻo heli: naʻaku ʻilo ai ʻae tuʻutāmaki mo e mamahi. (Sheol h7585)
4 [But] then I called out to Yahweh, saying, “Yahweh, I plead with you to save/rescue me!”
Pea naʻaku toki ui ki he huafa ʻo Sihova; “ʻE Sihova, ʻoku ou kole kiate koe, ke ke fakamoʻui hoku laumālie.”
5 Yahweh is kind and does what is right; he is our God, and he acts mercifully [to us].
‌ʻOku manavaʻofa ʻa Sihova, mo māʻoniʻoni; ʻio, ʻoku ʻaloʻofa ʻa hotau ʻOtua.
6 He protects those who (are helpless/cannot defend themselves); and when I thought that I would die, he saved me.
‌ʻOku fakamoʻui ʻe he ʻOtua ʻae taʻekākā: naʻaku vaivai pea naʻa ne tokoniʻi au.
7 I must encourage/tell myself to (have inner peace/not worry any more), because Yahweh has done very good things for me.
‌ʻE hoku laumālie, ke ke foki ki ho mālōlōʻanga; he kuo lahi ʻae foaki ʻa Sihova kiate koe.
8 Yahweh has saved me [SYN] from dying, and has kept/protected me from [troubles that would cause me to] cry. He has kept/protected me from stumbling.
He kuo ke fakamoʻui hoku laumālie mei he mate, mo hoku mata mei he loʻimata, mo hoku vaʻe ke ʻoua naʻa hinga.
9 [So here] on the earth, where people are still alive, I live knowing that Yahweh is [directing] me.
Te u ʻeveʻeva, ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ʻi he fonua ʻoe moʻui.
10 I continued to believe/trust [in Yahweh], even when I said, “I am greatly afflicted/troubled.”
Naʻaku tui, ko ia kuo u lea ai: “Naʻaku mahaki lahi:”
11 [Even] when I was distressed/worried and said, “I cannot trust anyone,” [I continued to trust in Yahweh].
Naʻaku pehē ʻi heʻeku toʻotoʻo, “ʻOku loi ʻae kakai kotoa pē.”
12 So now [I will tell you] [RHQ] what I will offer to Yahweh, because of all the good things that he has done for me.
Ko e hā te u ʻatu kia Sihova koeʻuhi ko ʻene ngaahi meʻaʻofa kotoa pē kiate au?
13 I will offer to him a cup [of wine] to thank him for saving/rescuing me.
Te u toʻo ʻae ipu ʻoe fakamoʻui, pea te u ui ki he huafa ʻo Sihova.
14 When I am together with many [HYP] people who belong to Yahweh, I will give to him the offerings that I solemnly promised to give to him.
Te u fai ni ʻeku ngaahi fuakava kia Sihova ʻi he ʻao ʻo hono kakai kotoa pē.
15 Yahweh is very grieved/sad when one of his people dies.
‌ʻOku mahuʻinga ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ʻae pekia ʻo ʻene kakai māʻoniʻoni.
16 I am one of those who serve Yahweh; I serve him like my mother did. He has freed/saved me from dying (OR, from being fastened by chains).
‌ʻE Sihova, ko e moʻoni ko hoʻo tamaioʻeiki au; ko hoʻo tamaioʻeiki au, mo e tama ʻa hoʻo kaunanga: kuo ke vete hoku ngaahi haʻi.
17 [So] I will offer to him a sacrifice to thank him, and I will pray to him.
Te u ʻatu kiate koe ʻae feilaulau ʻoe fakafetaʻi, pea ui ki he huafa ʻo Sihova.
18 When I am together with many of [HYP] the people who belong to Yahweh, [in the courtyard] outside his temple in Jerusalem, I will give to him the offerings that I solemnly promised to give to him. Praise Yahweh!
Te u fai ni ʻeku ngaahi fuakava kia Sihova ʻi he ʻao ʻo hono kakai kotoa pē,
‌ʻI he ngaahi lotoʻā ʻoe fale ʻo Sihova, ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoʻou, ʻE Selūsalema. Mou fakamālō kia Sihova.
