< Proverbs 4 >

1 My children, listen to what I am teaching you. If you pay attention, you will understand what is wise.
Tulik nutik, kowos in porongo mwe luti lun papa tomowos. Arulana lohang nu kac, na ac fah oasr etauk lowos.
2 What I am teaching you is good, so do not turn away from it.
Nga luti kowos ke inkanek wo. Nimet kowos pilesru.
3 When I was a young boy, loved by my mother,
Ke nga srakna tulik srisrik, wen sefanna nutin papa ac nina,
4 my father told me, “Remember my words; if you obey my commandments, you will live [a long time].
papa el ac fahk, “Esamya ma nga fahk inge, ac nimet mulkunla. Oru in oana ke nga fahk uh, na kom fah moul.
5 Obtain wisdom and understanding, and (do not abandon/hold fast to) [LIT] what I have taught you.
Eis lalmwetmet ac liyaten! Nimet mulkunla ku pilesru ma nga fahk uh.
6 Do not turn away from wisdom, because if you are wise, you will be protected [from all evil/danger]. If you love wisdom, wisdom [PRS] will guard you.
Nimet sisla lalmwetmet, na el ac loangekom. Lungse el, ac el fah liyekomyang wo.
7 The most important thing that you can do is to get wisdom. Even if you obtain many other things, the best thing is to know what things are wise.
Ma se ma yohk sripa emeet nu sum pa in suk lalmwetmet. Kutena ma kom ac sifil suk saya, kom in suk etauk.
8 If you consider being wise to be very valuable, [people] will think very highly of you. If you cling to wisdom [like you would cling to a woman you love], [many people] will honor you.
Lungse lalmwetmet, ac el ac fah oru kom in fulat. Apsilya ku, ac el ac fah oru in kaksakinyuk kom.
9 If you become wise, that will for you be [like] a beautiful wreath that is put {someone puts} on your head; it will be [like] a king’s glorious crown.” [That is what my father told me].
El ac fah oana sie tefuro wolana nu fin sifom.”
10 [So now I say], “My son, heed what I say. If you do that, you will live a [good] long life.
Lohngyu, tulik nutik. Nunku akwoye ma nga fahk nu sum uh, na ac fah loes moul lom.
11 I am teaching you the way to live wisely; I am showing you how to act justly [toward others].
Nga luti nu sum lalmwetmet ac ouiyen moul pwaye kom in fahsr kac.
12 If you live wisely, when you decide to do something, you will succeed [LIT].
Wangin ma ac kosrala inkanek lom kom fin fahsr in lalmwetmet, ac kom ac tia tukulkul ke pacl kom kasrusr.
13 Hold fast to the things I have taught you to do, and do not let them go. Guard them, because they [will be the source of a good] life.
Esam ma kom luti uh pacl nukewa. Lutlut lom uh pa moul lom — liyaung akwoya.
14 Do not do the things that wicked people do; [do not behave like they do]; do not even walk on the roads that evil [people] walk on [MET].
Nimet fahsr nu yen mwet koluk uh fahsr nu we. Nimet ukwe ouiyen moul lalos.
15 Stay away from those roads; turn aside and walk on other roads;
Fahsr liki ma koluk! Nimet apkuranyang nu kac! Kuhfla liki ac fahsrot ke inkanek lom.
16 because evil people cannot sleep if they have not done some evil deed [on that day]. They cannot rest if they have not harmed someone.
Mwet koluk uh tia ku in motulla nwe ke na elos orala sie ma koluk. Elos ac ngetnget na elos fin tia orala mwe lokoalok nu sin mwet.
17 What they eat and what they drink are things that they have obtained by acting wickedly and violently.”
Ma koluk ac sulallal uh oana mwe mongo ac mwe nim nu selos.
18 The behavior of good/righteous [people] is like the light [that begins to shine] at dawn and then [continues to] shine brighter until the brightest time of day.
Inkanek lun mwet suwoswos uh oana takak lun faht uh, ma kais kutu kalmwelik nwe ke na lenelik.
19 [But] the behavior of wicked [people] is like deep/thick darkness. [Because it is very dark], they cannot see the things that cause them to stumble.
Inkanek lun mwet koluk uh lohsr matoltol. Elos ikori tuh elos tia ku in liye lah mea se oru elos ikori uh.
20 My son, pay attention to what I am saying. Listen to my words carefully.
Tulik nutik, lohng akwoya ma nga fahk uh.
21 Keep them close to you; let them penetrate your inner being,
Esam kas luk ac karinganang in tia wanginla liki kom.
22 because you will have [PRS] [a good] life and [good] health if you [search for them and] find them.
Kas inge ac sang moul ac ku lun mano nu sin kutena mwet su kalem kac.
23 It is very important that you be careful about what you think, because what you think controls [MET] the things that you do.
Arulana karinganang nunak lom an — mweyen moul lom ac sikyak oana ma kom nunku.
24 Do not say anything that deceives [others] and never say what is not true.
Nimet fahk kutena ma su tia pwaye, ac tia orekmakin kas kikiap ku kutena ouiya ma ac kiapu mwet uh.
25 Keep looking straight ahead toward the events that are before you, and do not turn aside.
Ngetot suwohs nu meeto ke inse pulaik. Nimet ngetnget in tonong.
26 Plan carefully where you will go and what you will do, and then stay on that road. Then what you do will be right.
Akola akwoye ma kom ac oru an, na ma nukewa kom oru ac ku in orekla wo.
27 Do not leave the straight road by turning to the left or to the right. [Do only what is right] and keep yourself from [doing what is] evil.
Kaingkin ma koluk ac fahsr suwohs nu meeto. Nimet kuhfla liki inkanek pwaye.
