Numbers 32
1 The people of the tribes of Reuben and Gad had much livestock. They saw that the land near Jazer [city] and the Gilead [region east of the Jordan River] had good [grass] for the animals [to graze on].
Or les fils de Ruben et les fils de Gad avaient des troupeaux nombreux, très considérables, et ils avaient sous les yeux le pays de Jaëzer et le pays de Galaad, et voici, ces lieux étaient des lieux propres aux troupeaux.
2 So their leaders came to Eleazar and the other leaders of the people and Moses/me. They said,
Alors les fils de Gad et les fils de Ruben s'adressèrent à Moïse et au Prêtre Eléazar et aux Princes de l'Assemblée et dirent:
3 “We have a great amount of livestock.
Ataroth et Dibon et Jaëzer et Nimra et Hesbon et Eléalé et Sebam et Nébo et Bebon,
4 Yahweh has enabled us Israelis to capture some land that is very good for animals [to graze on]—the land near Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon [towns].
le pays que l'Éternel a vaincu à la tête de l'Assemblée d'Israël, est un pays propre aux troupeaux, et tes serviteurs ont des troupeaux.
5 If it pleases you, we would like this land to be ours, instead of land on the other side of the Jordan River.”
Et ils dirent: Si nous avons trouvé grâce à tes yeux, que ce pays soit donné en propriété à tes serviteurs, ne nous fais pas passer le Jourdain.
6 Moses/I replied to the leaders of the tribes of Gad and Reuben, “It is not right for [RHQ] your fellow Israelis to go to fight in wars and you stay here!
Moïse répondit aux fils de Gad et aux fils de Ruben: Vos frères marcheront-ils au combat, et vous, resterez-vous ici?
7 [If you do that], you will cause the other Israelis to be discouraged, with the result that they will not cross [the Jordan River] to the land that Yahweh is giving to them [RHQ].
Pourquoi voulez-vous ôter aux enfants d'Israël le désir de passer dans le pays que leur a donné l'Éternel?
8 Your ancestors did the same kind of thing. I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to see what the land [of Canaan] was like.
Ainsi firent vos pères, lorsque je les envoyai de Cadès-Barnéa explorer le pays: ils s'avancèrent jusqu'à la vallée d'Escol, et après avoir vu le pays,
9 They went as far as Eshcol Valley, but when they saw [the huge people in] the land, [they returned and] caused the Israeli people to be discouraged, saying ‘We should not try to enter the land that Yahweh said that he is giving to us.’
ils ôtèrent aux enfants d'Israël le désir d'entrer dans le pays que leur donnait l'Éternel.
10 So Yahweh became very angry with them, and he solemnly declared this:
Alors en ce jour même la colère de l'Éternel s'alluma et Il prononça ce serment:
11 ‘From all the people who came out of Egypt, the only ones who are at least 20 years old who will see the land that I promised to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, are Jephunneh’s son Caleb and Nun’s son Joshua, because they trusted me completely. None of the other people who came out of Egypt will even see that land, because they have not completely believed in my [power].’
Ces hommes sortis de l'Egypte, âgés de vingt ans et plus, ne verront pas le sol que je promis par serment à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob, car ils ne m'ont pas rendu une pleine obéissance,
excepté Caleb, fils de Jephunné, issu de Kenaz, et Josué, fils de Nun, qui ont rendu à l'Éternel une pleine obéissance.
13 So Yahweh was angry with the Israeli people, and [as a result] he has caused us to wander in this desert for 40 years. Finally, all the people who had sinned against Yahweh [by refusing to trust him] died, [one by one].
Ainsi la colère de l'Éternel s'alluma contre Israël et Il les fit errer quarante ans dans le désert jusqu'à l'extinction de toute la génération qui avait fait le mal aux yeux de l'Éternel.
14 And you are acting like your ancestors did! You sinful Israeli people are going to cause Yahweh to be more angry with you [than he was with our ancestors]
Et voilà que vous succédez à vos pères, à cette race de pécheurs, pour accroître encore la colère de l'Éternel contre Israël.
15 If you stop trusting him, he will cause you and all your fellow Israelis to stay longer in the desert, and he will get rid of all of you!”
Si vous lui faites défection, Il le laissera plus longtemps encore dans le désert, et vous entraînerez la perte de tout ce peuple.
16 Then the [leaders of the tribes of Reuben and Gad] said to Moses/me, “First we will build pens for our animals and build cities for our families here.
Alors s'approchant de lui ils dirent: Nous construirons ici des parcs pour nos troupeaux et des villes pour nos enfants,
17 Then our families will live in strong cities with walls around them, and they will be safe from the people who live in this land. Then we will get ready to fight battles. We will help the other Israelis to get land [on the other side of the river].
mais nous-mêmes, de suite nous marcherons armés en tête des enfants d'Israël jusqu'à ce que nous les ayons introduits dans leur séjour; et nos enfants demeureront dans les villes fortifiées contre les habitants du pays.
18 We will not return to our homes until every Israeli has received some land.
Nous ne rentrerons pas dans nos maisons que les enfants d'Israël n'aient pris chacun possession de son héritage.
19 We will not take any land on the west side of the Jordan [River]; our land will be here on the east side.”
Car nous ne voulons pas nous établir avec eux de l'autre côté du Jourdain et plus loin, puisque notre héritage se présente pour nous au delà du Jourdain vers le levant.
20 So Moses/I told them, “[Okay, I will tell you] what you all must do. You must get ready to fight battles for Yahweh.
Là-dessus Moïse leur dit: Si vous le faites, si vous marchez en armes au combat sous les yeux de l'Éternel,
21 You all must cross the Jordan [River] carrying your weapons.
et que toute votre milice passe le Jourdain sous les yeux de l'Éternel, jusqu'à ce qu'il ait chassé ses ennemis devant Lui, et que tout le pays ait été soumis par l'Éternel,
22 After Yahweh helps us to take that land [from the people who live there], you will be permitted to return to your homes. You will have done what you have promised Yahweh and the Israeli people that you would do, and you may keep this land to be your own, given to you by Yahweh.
et si vous revenez seulement alors, vous serez quittes envers l'Éternel et envers Israël et ce pays vous appartiendra en propre devant l'Éternel.
23 “But if you do not do these things, you will be sinning against Yahweh, and he will punish you for [that] sin.
Mais si vous n'agissez pas ainsi, voici, vous péchez contre l'Éternel et vous ressentirez les effets de votre péché, qui vous atteindront.
24 Now you can build cities for your families and pens for your animals, but after doing that, you must do what you have promised.”
Bâtissez-vous des villes pour vos enfants et des parcs pour vos troupeaux, et ce que votre bouche a promis, tenez-le.
25 The leaders of the tribes of Gad and Reuben replied, “We will do what you have asked us to do [MTY], because you are our leader.
Alors les fils de Gad et les fils de Ruben parlèrent à Moïse en ces termes: Tes serviteurs agiront ainsi que mon Seigneur l'ordonne.
26 Our wives and children and our cattle and sheep and goats will stay here in the cities in the Gilead area,
Nos enfants, nos femmes, nos troupeaux, et tout notre bétail resteront ici dans les villes de Galaad,
27 but we will prepare to go to battle. We will take our weapons and go across [the Jordan River] and fight for Yahweh, just as you, our leader, have said.”
et tes serviteurs, toute leur milice guerrière, passeront sous les yeux de l'Éternel pour prendre part au combat, ainsi que mon Seigneur le dit.
28 So Moses/I gave instructions about them to Eleazar, Joshua, and the leaders of the Israeli tribes.
Et Moïse donna pour eux ses ordres au Prêtre Eléazar, et à Josué, fils de Nun, et aux patriarches des Tribus des enfants d'Israël.
29 Moses/I said to them, “If the men from the tribes of Gad and Reuben prepare for battle and cross the Jordan [River] with you, in order to do what Yahweh desires and help you to take that land, give them the Gilead area to belong to them.
Et Moïse leur dit: Si les fils de Gad et les fils de Ruben passent avec vous le Jourdain, tous équipés pour le combat, devant l'Éternel, alors, une fois le pays mis sous vos pieds devant vous, vous leur donnerez le pays de Galaad en propriété.
30 But if they do not take their weapons and go with you prepared to fight, they will not receive this land. They will need to accept some land in Canaan, like the rest of you will do.”
Mais s'ils ne marchent pas en armes avec vous, qu'ils obtiennent leur lot au milieu de vous dans le pays de Canaan.
31 The [leaders of the tribes of Gad and Reuben] replied, “We will do what you have said and what Yahweh has said.
Alors les fils de Gad et les fils de Ruben répondirent et dirent: Ce que l'Éternel a dit à tes serviteurs, nous le ferons.
32 We will cross the river into Canaan land, and we will do what Yahweh desires and be prepared for battle. But our land will be [here] on the east side of the Jordan [River].”
Nous entrerons en armes sous les yeux de l'Éternel au pays de Canaan, mais que l'on nous mette en possession de notre lot de ce côté du Jourdain.
33 So Moses/I agreed to give that land to the tribes of Gad and Reuben and to half of the tribe of Joseph’s son Manasseh. That land was previously the land where Sihon, the king of the Amor people-group, ruled, and the land where Og, the king of Bashan [region], ruled, including its cities and surrounding land.
Ainsi Moïse donna aux fils de Gad et aux fils de Ruben, et à la demi-Tribu de Manassé, fils de Joseph, le royaume de Sihon, Roi des Amoréens, et le royaume de Og, Roi de Basan, ce pays avec ses villes, et les territoires environnants des villes du pays.
34 The people of the tribe of Gad rebuilt Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
Et les fils de Gad bâtirent Dibon et Ataroth et Aroër,
35 Atroth-Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
et Atrothsophan et Jaëzer et Jogbeha
36 Beth-Nimrah, and Beth-Haran cities. Those were cities with strong walls around them. And they also built pens for their sheep.
et Beth-Nimra et Beth-Haran, villes fortes et parcs de moutons.
37 The people of the tribe of Reuben rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
Et les fils de Ruben rebâtirent Hesbon et Eléalé et Kiriathaïm
38 Nebo, Baal-Meon, and Sibmah cities. When they rebuilt Nebo and Baal-Meon, they gave new names to those cities.
et Nébo et Bahal-Meon, dont les noms furent changés, et Sibma; et ils donnèrent des noms aux villes qu'ils bâtirent.
39 The descendants of Manasseh’s son Makir went to the Gilead [region] and compelled the people of the Amor people-group to leave that area.
Et les fils de Machir, fils de Manassé, marchèrent contre Galaad et s'en emparèrent et chassèrent les Amoréens qui y étaient établis.
40 So Moses/I gave Gilead to the family of Makir, and they started to live there.
Et Moïse donna Galaad à Machir, fils de Manassé, qui s'y établit.
41 Jair, who was also a descendant of Manasseh, went and captured the small towns in that region, and he named them the Towns of Jair.
Et Jaïr, fils de Manassé, se mit en marche, et en conquit les bourgs qu'il appela Bourgs de Jaïr.
42 A man named Nobah went and captured Kenath [city] and the nearby towns, and then he put his own name to be the new name of that area.
Et Nobah se mit en marche et conquit Kenath et ses dépendances et il l'appela Nobah de son nom.
