Numbers 17
1 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me,
Entonces Yavé habló a Moisés:
2 “Tell the Israeli people to bring to you twelve walking sticks. They should bring one from each of the leaders of the twelve tribes. You should carve each leader’s name on his stick.
Habla a los hijos de Israel. Toma de ellos una vara por cada casa paterna: 12 varas de todos sus jefes conforme a sus casas paternas. Escribirás el nombre de cada uno en su vara.
3 There must be one stick for the leader of each tribe, so you must carve Aaron’s name on the stick for the tribe of Levi.
En la vara de Leví escribirás el nombre de Aarón, pues cada jefe de su casa paterna tendrá una vara.
4 Put those sticks inside the Sacred Tent, in front of the sacred chest that has in it the tablets on which the Ten Commandments are written. That is the place where I always talk with you.
Luego las pondrás en el Tabernáculo de Reunión, delante del Testimonio, donde Yo me encuentro con ustedes.
5 Buds will sprout on the stick of the man whom I have chosen [to be the priest]. [When the people see that], they will stop their constantly complaining about you [because they will realize that you are the one whom I have chosen].”
Sucederá que la vara del varón que Yo escoja, florecerá, y así quitaré de sobre Mí las murmuraciones con las cuales los hijos de Israel murmuran contra ustedes.
6 So Moses/I told the people what Yahweh had said. Then each of the twelve Israeli leaders, including Aaron, brought his walking stick to Moses/me.
Entonces Moisés habló a los hijos de Israel. Todos sus jefes le dieron varas, cada jefe una vara por cada casa paterna, en total 12 varas. La vara de Aarón estaba entre las varas de ellos.
7 Moses/I placed the sticks inside the Sacred Tent in front of the sacred chest.
Moisés depositó las varas en la Presencia de Yavé en el Tabernáculo del Testimonio.
8 The following morning, when he/I went into the tent, he/I saw that Aaron’s stick, which represented the tribe of Levi, had sprouted, it had produced leaves and blossoms, and it had also produced almonds that were ripe!
Al día siguiente, aconteció que Moisés fue al Tabernáculo del Testimonio. Vio que la vara de Aarón, de la casa de Leví, reverdeció y echó flores. Echó ramas y produjo almendras.
9 Moses/I brought all the sticks out of the Sacred Tent and showed them to the people. Each of the twelve leaders took back his own stick.
Entonces Moisés sacó de la Presencia de Yavé todas las varas ante todos los hijos de Israel, y ellos las vieron y cada uno tomó su vara.
10 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “Put Aaron’s stick in front of the sacred chest, and let it stay there permanently. That will be a warning to people who want to rebel [against me]. Then no more people will die [because of complaining against me].”
Yavé dijo a Moisés: Vuelve a depositar la vara de Aarón delante del Testimonio para que se guarde como señal a los hijos rebeldes para que cesen sus murmuraciones contra Mí, y no mueran.
11 So Moses/I did what Yahweh had commanded.
Moisés hizo como Yavé le ordenó. Así lo hizo.
12 Then the Israeli people said to Moses/me, “We are going to die! All of us are surely going to die!
Entonces los hijos de Israel clamaron a Moisés: ¡Ciertamente perecemos! ¡Estamos perdidos! ¡Todos nosotros estamos perdidos!
13 Everyone who comes close to Yahweh’s Sacred Tent dies. Are the rest of us going to die, also?” [RHQ]
¡Cualquiera que se acerca al Tabernáculo de Yavé muere! ¿Al fin todos pereceremos?
