Numbers 14
1 That night, all the Israeli people cried loudly.
Entao levantou-se toda a congregação, e alçaram a sua voz: e o povo chorou n'aquella mesma noite.
2 The next day they all complained to Aaron and Moses/me. All the men said, “We wish that we had died in Egypt, or in this desert!
E todos os filhos d'Israel murmuraram contra Moysés e contra Aarão; e toda a congregação lhe disse: Ah se morrêramos na terra do Egypto! ou, ah se morrêramos n'este deserto!
3 Why is Yahweh bringing us to this land, where we men will be killed with swords? And our wives and children will be taken away [to be slaves]. [Instead of going to Canaan]. It would be better for us to return to Egypt!”
E porque o Senhor nos traz a esta terra, para cairmos á espada, e para que nossas mulheres e nossas creanças sejam por presa? não nos seria melhor voltar-mos ao Egypto?
4 Then [some of] them said to each other, “We should choose a leader who will take us back to Egypt!”
E diziam um ao outro: Levantemo-nos um capitão, e voltemos ao Egypto.
5 Then Aaron and Moses/I bowed down [to pray] in front of all the Israeli people who had gathered there.
Então Moysés e Aarão cairam sobre os seus rostos perante todo o ajuntamento dos filhos de Israel.
6 Joshua and Caleb, two of the men who had explored the land, tore their clothes [because they were very dismayed].
E Josué, filho de Nun, e Caleb filho de Jefoné, dos que espiaram a terra, rasgaram os seus vestidos.
7 They said to the Israeli people, “The land that we explored is very good.
E fallaram a toda a congregação dos filhos d'Israel, dizendo: A terra pelo meio da qual passámos a espiar é terra muito boa
8 If Yahweh is pleased with us, he will lead us into that very fertile [IDM] land, and he will give it to us.
Se o Senhor se agradar de nós, então nos porá n'esta terra, e nol-a dará: terra que mana leite e mel
9 So do not rebel against Yahweh! And do not be afraid of the people in that land! We will (gobble them up/completely destroy them) [MET]! They do not have anyone who will protect them, but Yahweh will be with us [and help us]. So do not be afraid of them!”
Tão sómente não sejaes rebeldes contra o Senhor, e não temaes o povo d'esta terra, porquanto são elles nosso pão: retirou-se d'elles o seu amparo, e o Senhor é comnosco; não os temaes.
10 Then all the Israeli people talked about [killing Caleb and Joshua by] throwing stones at them. But [suddenly] Yahweh’s glory appeared to them at the Sacred Tent.
Então disse toda a congregação que os apedrejassem com pedras: porém a gloria do Senhor appareceu na tenda da congregação a todos os filhos d'Israel.
11 Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “How long will these people reject me [RHQ]? I am tired of them not believing in what I [can do], in spite of all the miracles I have performed among them [RHQ]!
E disse o Senhor a Moysés: Até quando me provocará este povo? e até quando me não crerão por todos os signaes que fiz no meio d'elles?
12 So I will cause a (plague/widespread sickness) to strike them and get rid of them. But I will cause your [descendants] to become a great nation. They will be a nation that is much greater and stronger than these people are.”
Com pestilencia o ferirei, e o rejeitarei: e te farei a ti povo maior e mais forte do que este.
13 But Moses/I replied to Yahweh, “[Please do not do that, because] the people of Egypt will hear about it! You brought these Israeli people from Egypt by your great power,
E disse Moysés ao Senhor: Assim os egypcios o ouvirão; porquanto com a tua força fizeste subir este povo do meio d'elles.
14 and the people of Egypt will tell that to the [descendants of Canaan] who live in this land. Yahweh, they have already heard about you. They know that you have (been with/helped) these people and that they have seen you face-to-face. They have heard that your cloud is like a huge pillar that stays over them, and by using that cloud you lead them during the day, and the cloud becomes like a fire at night [to give them light].
E dirão aos moradores d'esta terra, os que ouviram que tu, ó Senhor, estás no meio d'este povo, que de cara a cara, ó Senhor, lhes appareces, que tua nuvem está sobre elles, e que vaes adiante d'elles n'uma columna de nuvem de dia, e n'uma columna de fogo de noite.
15 If you kill these people all at one time, the people-groups who have heard about your [power] will say,
E matarias este povo como a um só homem? as gentes pois, que ouviram a tua fama, fallarão, dizendo:
16 ‘Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land that he promised to give to them, so he killed them in the desert.’
Porquanto o Senhor não podia pôr este povo na terra que lhes tinha jurado; por isso os matou no deserto.
17 “So Yahweh, now show that you are very powerful. You said,
Agora, pois, rogo-te que a força do meu Senhor se engrandeça; como tens fallado, dizendo:
18 ‘I do not quickly become angry; instead, I love people very much, and I forgive people for having sinned and having disobeyed my laws. But I will always punish [LIT] people who are guilty of doing what is wrong. When parents sin, I will punish them, but I will also punish their children and their grandchildren and their great-grandchildren and their great-great-grandchildren.’
O Senhor é longanimo, e grande em beneficencia, que perdôa a iniquidade e a transgressão, que o culpado não tem por innocente, e visita a iniquidade dos paes sobre os filhos até á terceira e quarta geração.
19 So, because you love people like that, forgive these people for the sins that they have committed, just like you have continued to forgive them ever since they left Egypt.”
Perdôa pois a iniquidade d'este povo, segundo a grandeza da tua benignidade: e como tambem perdoaste a este povo desde a terra do Egypto até aqui.
20 Then Yahweh replied, “I have forgiven them, as you requested me to.
E disse o Senhor: Conforme á tua palavra lhe perdoei.
21 But, just as certainly as I live and that people all over the world [can see] my (glory/glorious power), [I solemnly declare this: ]
Porém tão certamente como eu vivo, que a gloria do Senhor encherá toda a terra,
22 All these people saw my glory and all the miracles that I performed in Egypt and in the desert, but they disobeyed me, and many times they tested [whether they could continue to do evil things without my punishing them].
E que todos os homens que viram a minha gloria e os meus signaes, que fiz no Egypto e no deserto; e me tentaram estas dez vezes, e não obedeceram á minha voz;
23 Because of that, not one of them will see the land that I promised their ancestors [that I would give to them]. No one who rejected me will see that land.
Não verão a terra de que a seus paes jurei, e até nenhum d'aquelles que me provocaram a verá.
24 But Caleb, who serves me [well], is different from the others. He obeys me completely. So I will bring him into that land that he has already seen, and his descendants will inherit/possess some of it.
Porém o meu servo Caleb, porquanto n'elle houve outro espirito, e perseverou em seguir-me, eu o levarei á terra em que entrou, e a sua semente a possuirá em herança:
25 So, since the descendants of Amalek and Canaan who are living in the valleys [in Canaan are very strong], when you leave here tomorrow, [instead of traveling toward Canaan], go back along the road through the desert towards the Red Sea.”
E os amalequitas e os cananeos habitam no valle: tornae-vos ámanhã, e caminhae para o deserto pelo caminho do Mar Vermelho.
26 Then Yahweh said to Aaron and Moses/me,
Depois fallou o Senhor a Moysés e a Aarão, dizendo:
27 “How long will the wicked people of this nation keep complaining about me [RHQ]? I have heard everything that they have grumbled/complained against me.
Até quando soffrerei esta má congregação, que murmura contra mim? tenho ouvido as murmurações dos filhos de Israel, com que murmuram contra mim.
28 So now tell them this: ‘Just as certainly as I, Yahweh, live, I will do exactly what you said would happen.
Dize-lhes: Assim eu vivo, diz o Senhor, que, como fallastes aos meus ouvidos, assim farei a vós outros.
29 [I will cause] all of you to die here in this desert! Because you grumbled about me, none of you who are more than 20 years old and who were counted when Moses counted everyone
N'este deserto cairão os vossos cadaveres, como tambem todos os que de vós foram contados segundo toda a vossa conta, de vinte annos e para cima, os que d'entre vós contra mim murmurastes;
30 will enter the land that I solemnly promised to give to you. Only Caleb and Joshua will enter that land.
Não entrareis na terra, pela qual levantei a minha mão que vos faria habitar n'ella, salvo Caleb, filho de Jefoné, e Josué, filho de Nun
31 You said that your children would be taken from you [to become slaves], but I will take them into the land, and they will enjoy living in the land that you (rejected/said that you could not conquer).
Mas os vossos filhos, de que dizeis: Por presa serão, metterei n'ella; e elles saberão da terra que vós desprezastes.
32 But as for you [adults], you will die here in this desert.
Porém, quanto a vós, os vossos cadaveres cairão n'este deserto.
33 And like shepherds [wander around in the desert as they take care of their sheep], your children will wander around in this desert for 40 years. Because you adults were not loyal/faithful to me, your children will suffer until you all die in the desert.
E vossos filhos pastorearão n'este deserto quarenta annos, e levarão sobre si as vossas fornicações, até que os vossos cadaveres se consumam n'este deserto.
34 You will suffer for your sins for 40 years. That will be one year for each of the 40 days that the twelve men explored Canaan land. And I will be like an enemy to you.’
Segundo o numero dos dias em que espiastes esta terra, quarenta dias, por cada dia um anno, levareis sobre vós as vossas iniquidades quarenta annos, e conhecereis o meu apartamento.
35 [This will certainly happen because] I, Yahweh, have said it! I will do these things to every one in this group who conspired against me. They (conspired against/decided together to reject) me here in the desert, and they will all die right here in this desert!”
Eu, o Senhor, fallei: se assim não fizer a toda esta má congregação, que se levantou contra mim, n'este deserto se consumirão, e ahi fallecerão.
36 Then the ten men [who had explored Canaan and] who had urged the people to rebel against Yahweh by giving reports that discouraged the people
E os homens que Moysés mandara a espiar a terra, e que, voltando, fizeram murmurar toda a congregação contra elle, infamando a terra,
37 were immediately struck with a plague/disease that Yahweh sent, and they died.
Aquelles mesmos homens, que infamaram a terra, morreram da praga perante o Senhor.
38 Of the twelve men who had explored Canaan, only Joshua and Caleb remained alive.
Mas Josué, filho de Nun, e Caleb, filho de Jefoné, que eram dos homens que foram espiar a terra, ficaram com vida.
39 When Moses/I reported to the Israeli people what Yahweh had said, many of them were very sad.
E fallou Moysés estas palavras a todos os filhos de Israel: então o povo se contristou muito.
40 So the people got up early the next morning and started to go toward the hilly area in Canaan. They said, “[We know that] we have sinned, but now we [are ready to] enter the land that Yahweh promised to give to us.”
E levantaram-se pela manhã de madrugada, e subiram ao cume do monte, dizendo: Eis-nos aqui, e subiremos ao logar que o Senhor tem dito; porquanto havemos peccado.
41 But Moses/I said, “Yahweh commanded you [to return to the desert, so] why are you now disobeying him [RHQ]? It will not (succeed/be possible).
Mas Moysés disse: Porque quebrantaes o mandado do Senhor? pois isso não prosperará.
42 Do not try to enter the land now! [If you try], your enemies will defeat you, because Yahweh will not (be with/help) you.
Não subaes, pois o Senhor não estará no meio de vós, para que não sejaes feridos diante dos vossos inimigos.
43 When you begin to fight the descendants of Amalek and Canaan, they will slaughter you! Yahweh will abandon you, because you have abandoned him.”
Porque os amalequitas e os cananeos estão ali diante da vossa face, e caireis á espada: pois, porquanto vos desviastes do Senhor, o Senhor não será comvosco.
44 But even though Moses/I did not leave the camp, and the sacred chest that contained the Ten Commandments was not taken from the camp, the people began to go towards the hilly area in Canaan.
Comtudo, temerariamente, tentaram subir ao cume do monte: mas a arca do concerto do Senhor e Moysés não se apartaram do meio do arraial.
45 Then the descendants of Amalek and Canaan who lived in that hilly area came down and attacked them and chased them as far [south] as [the town of] Hormah.
Então desceram os amalequitas e os cananeos, que habitavam na montanha, e os feriram, derrotando-os até Horma.
