Nehemiah 3
1 [(This is a list/These are the names) of the people who helped to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem]. Eliashib the Supreme Priest and the other priests began to rebuild it at the Sheep Gate. They also put the gates in their places. They built the wall as far as the Tower of 100 Soldiers and [further north] to the Tower of Hananel, and they dedicated it to God.
Alors se mirent à l'œuvre le Grand-Prêtre Eliasib et ses frères, les Prêtres, et ils construisirent la Porte des Brebis. Ils la consacrèrent et en établirent les battants; et ils la consacrèrent jusqu'à la Tour Mea, jusqu'à la Tour Hananeël.
2 Next to them, [beyond the Tower of Hananel, ] men from Jericho built [part of the wall]. Next to them, Zaccur, the son of Imri, built [part of the wall].
Et à côté de lui bâtirent les hommes de Jéricho; et à côté de lui bâtit Zaccur, fils d'Imri.
3 The sons of Hassenaah built the Fish Gate. The put in their places the wooden beams above the gates, and also the doors, the bolts, and the bars [for locking the gate].
Et la Porte des Poissons fut construite par les fils de Senaa. Et ils en firent la charpente et en établirent les battants, les serrures et les verrous.
4 Next to them, Meremoth, the son of Uriah and grandson of Hakkoz, repaired [the next part of the wall]. Next to him, Meshullam, the son of Berekiah and grandson of Meshezabel, repaired [the next part of the wall]. Next to him, Zadok the son of Baana repaired the next part of the wall.
Et à côté d'eux restaurait Merémoth, fils d'Urie, fils de Haccots; et à côté d'eux restaurait Mesullam, fils de Beréchia, fils de Meseizabeël; et à côté d'eux restaurait Tsadoc, fils de Baëna.
5 Next to him, the men from Tekoa [town] repaired [part of the wall], but the leaders of Tekoa refused to do the work that their boss/supervisor assigned to them.
Et à côté d'eux restauraient les Thékôïtes, mais leurs notables ne prêtèrent pas leur dos au service de leur maître.
6 Joiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah, repaired the Old Gate. They also put in their places the beams above the gate and put in the bolts and the bars [for locking the gate].
Et la Porte Ancienne fut restaurée par Joiada, fils de Paseach, et Mesullam, fils de Besodia: ils en firent la charpente, et en posèrent les battants, les serrures et les verrous.
7 Next to them, Melatiah from Gibeon [city], Jadon from Meronoth [town], and other men from Gibeon and from Mizpah [city], which was where the governor of the province west of the [Euphrates] River lived, repaired [part of the wall].
Et à côté d'eux restauraient Melathia, le Gabaonite, et Jadon, le Méronothite, les gens de Gabaon et de Mitspa ressortissant au siège du gouverneur de ce côté du Fleuve.
8 Next to them, Uzziel, the son of Harhaiah, and Hananiah repaired the wall as far as the Broad/Wide Wall. Harhaiah made things from gold, and Hananiah made perfumes.
A côté d'eux restaurait Uzziel, fils de Charaïa, [l'un] des orfèvres; et à côté de lui restaurait Hanania, fils du parfumeur. [Or ils (les Chaldéens) avaient laissé Jérusalem debout jusqu'au large mur.]
9 Next to them, Rephaiah the son of Hur, who ruled half of Jerusalem District, repaired [part of the wall].
Et à côté d'eux restaurait Rephaïa, fils de Hur, chef de la moitié du Cercle de Jérusalem.
10 Next to him, Jedaiah the son of Harumaph repaired [part of the wall] near his house. Next to him, Hattush the son of Hashabneiah repaired [part of the wall].
Et à côté d'eux restaurait Jedaïa, fils de Harumaph, vis-à-vis de sa maison; et à côté de lui restaurait Hattus, fils de Hasabenia.
11 Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hashub the son of Pahath-Moab, repaired a section [of the wall], and also repaired the Tower of the Ovens.
Malchiia, fils de Harim, et Hassub, fils de Pachath-Moab, restauraient une section et la Tour des Fourneaux.
12 Next to them, Shallum the son of Hallohesh, who ruled the other half of Jerusalem District, repaired [part of the wall]. His daughters [helped him with the work].
Et à côté de lui restaurait Sallum, fils de Halloës, chef de l'autre moitié du Cercle de Jérusalem, lui et ses filles.
13 Hanun and people from Zanoah [city] repaired the Valley Gate. They put the gates in their places, and also put in the bolts and bars [for locking the gate]. They repaired the wall for (1,500 feet/500 meters), as far as the Dung Gate.
La Porte de la Vallée fut restaurée par Hanun et les habitants de Zanoah; ils la bâtirent et en posèrent les battants, les serrures et les verrous, et mille coudées au mur jusqu'à la Porte du Fumier.
14 Malchijah the son of Rechab, who ruled Beth-Haccherem District, repaired the Dung Gate. He also put in their places the bolts and bars [for locking the gate].
Et la Porte du Fumier fut restaurée par Malchiia, fils de Rechab, chef du Cercle de Beth-Haccarem; il la bâtit et en posa les battants, les serrures et les verrous.
15 Shallum the son of Colhozeh, who ruled Mizpah District, repaired the Fountain Gate. He put/built a roof over the gate, and put in their places the gates and the bolts and the bars [for locking the gate]. Near the Pool of Shelah he built the wall next to the king’s garden, as far as the steps that went down from the City of David.
Et la Porte de la Source fut restaurée par Sallun, fils de Col-Hozeh, chef du Cercle de Mitspa; il la bâtit, en fit la toiture, et en posa les battants, les serrures et les verrous, et le mur de l'Étang de Siloé près du Jardin Royal jusqu'à la rampe qui descend de la Cité de David.
16 Next to him, Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, who ruled half of the Beth-Zur District, repaired [the wall] as far as the tombs [in the City] of David, to the reservoir that the people had made and the army barracks.
Après lui restaurait Néhémie, fils de Azbuc, chef de la moitié du Cercle de Beth-Tsur, jusque vis-à-vis des tombeaux de David vis-à-vis jusqu'à l'étang artificiel et jusqu'à l'hôtel des héros.
17 Next to him, several descendants of Levi [who helped the priests] repaired [parts of the wall]. Rehum the son of Bani repaired one section. Hashabiah, who ruled half of the Keilah District, repaired the next section on behalf of the people of his district.
Après lui restauraient les Lévites, Rehum, fils de Bani. A côté de lui restaurait Hasabia, chef de la moitié du Cercle de Kehila, pour son Cercle.
18 Bavvai the son of Henadad, who ruled the other half of the Keilah District, repaired [the next section] along with other descendants of Levi.
Après lui restauraient ses frères, Bavvaï, fils de Hénadad, chef de l'autre moitié du Cercle de Kehila.
19 Next to him, Ezer the son of Jeshua, who ruled Mizpah [city], repaired another section in front of the [steps which] went up to the (armory/building where the weapons are kept), as far as where the wall turns [a bit to the right].
Et à côté de lui restaurait Eser, fils de Jésuah, chef de Mitspa, une autre section vis-à-vis de la montée de l'arsenal de l'angle.
20 Next to him, Baruch the son of Zabbai repaired a section, as far as the door of the house of Eliashib the Supreme Priest.
Après lui avec ardeur restaurait Baruch, fils de Zabbaï, une seconde section à partir de l'angle jusqu'à la porte de la maison d'Eliasib, le Grand-Prêtre.
21 Next to him, Meremoth the son of Uriah and grandson of Hakkoz, repaired a section from the door of Eliashib’s house to the end of Eliahib’s house.
Après lui restaurait Merémoth, fils de Urie, fils de Haccots, une seconde section à partir de la porte de la maison d'Eliasib jusqu'à l'extrémité de la maison d'Eliasib.
22 Next to him, [several priests repaired parts of the wall]. Priests from the area near Jerusalem repaired [one section].
Et après lui restauraient les Prêtres, les hommes du District [du Jourdain].
23 Next to them, Benjamin and Hasshub repaired [a section] in front of their house. Azariah, the son of Maaseiah and grandson of Ananiah, repaired the next [section] in front of his house.
Après eux restauraient Benjamin et Hassub vis-à-vis de leur maison. Après eux restaurait Azaria, fils de Mahaseïa, fils d'Ananias, à côté de sa maison.
24 Next to him, Binnui the son of Henadad repaired a section, from Azariah’s house to where the wall turns a bit.
Après lui restaurait Binnuï, fils de Hénadad, une seconde section à partir de la maison d'Azaria jusqu'à l'angle et jusqu'au coin.
25 [Next to him], Palal the son of Uzai repaired [a section], from where the wall turns and from where the watchtower is taller than the upper palace, the one where King [Solomon] had lived. The watchtower is near the courtyard where the guards [live].
Palal, fils de Usaï, vis-à-vis de l'angle et de la Tour qui sort de la maison supérieure du roi dans la cour de la prison.
26 Next to him, Pedaiah the son of Parosh repaired [a section] toward the east to a place near the Water Gate and near the tall tower. That part of the wall is near Ophel [Hill], where the temple servants lived.
Après lui Pedaïa, fils de Paréos. Or les assujettis habitaient sur la colline vis-à-vis de la Porte de l'Eau au Levant, et de la Tour saillante.
27 Next to him, men from Tekoa [town] repaired another section, from near the tall tower as far as the wall near Ophel [Hill]. [That was the second section that they repaired].
Après eux restauraient les Thékôïtes, une seconde section vis-à-vis de la Grande Tour saillante jusqu'au mur de la colline.
28 A group of priests repaired [the wall] north from the Horse Gate. Each one repaired the section near his own house.
Au-dessus de la Porte des Chevaux restauraient les Prêtres, chacun vis-à-vis de sa maison.
29 Next to them, Zadok the son of Immer repaired [the section] in front of his house. Next to him, Shemaiah the son of Shecaniah, who (was the gatekeeper at/opened and closed) the East Gate, repaired [the next section].
Après eux restaurait Tsadoc, fils de Immer, vis-à-vis de sa maison, et après lui restaurait Semaïa, fils de Sechania, garde de la Porte du Levant.
30 Next to him, Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired a section. That was the second [section that they repaired]. Next to them, Meshullam the son of Berekiah, made repairs across from where he lived.
Après lui restauraient Hanania, fils de Sélémia, et Hanun, le sixième fils de Tsalaph, une seconde section. Après eux restaurait Mesullam, fils de Béréchia, vis-à-vis de sa cellule.
31 Next to them, Malchijah, who also made things from gold, repaired [a section] as far as the building used by the temple servants and merchants, which was close to the Inspection Gate. This was the gate into the temple that was near the room on top of the northeast corner of the wall.
Après lui restaurait Malchiia, l'orfèvre, jusqu'à la maison des assujettis et des marchands, vis-à-vis de la Porte de la Revue, jusqu'à la haute chambre de l'angle.
32 Other men who made things from gold, along with merchants, repaired [the last section of the wall], as far as the Sheep Gate.
Et entre la haute chambre de l'angle et la Porte des Brebis restauraient les orfèvres et les marchands.
