Joshua 24
1 [Many years later], Joshua summoned representatives of all the tribes of Israel. He gathered together the elders, the leaders, the judges, and the other officials at Shechem [city]. He told them to listen to what God wanted to tell them.
Giô-suê bèn nhóm hiệp các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Si-chem, và gọi các trưởng lão Y-sơ-ra-ên, các quan trưởng, các quan xét, và các quan tướng; họ đều ra mắt trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời.
2 Joshua said to all of them, “This is what Yahweh, the God we Israeli people worship, is saying: ‘Long ago, your ancestors, including Abraham’s father Terah and Abraham’s younger brother Nahor, lived on the east side of the Euphrates River.
Giô-suê nói cùng cả dân sự rằng: Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời Y-sơ-ra-ên có phán như vầy: Tổ phụ các ngươi, là Tha-rê, cha của Aùp-ra-ham, và Na-cô, thuở xưa ở phía bên sông, và hầu việc các thần khác.
3 But I took your ancestor Abraham from that land east of the Euphrates River, and I led him as he lived in various places in this land of Canaan, and I enabled him to have many descendants. First, I enabled him to have a son, Isaac.
Nhưng ta chọn Aùp-ra-ham, tổ phụ các ngươi, từ phía bên sông, khiến người đi khắp xứ Ca-na-an, ban Y-sác cho người, và làm cho dòng dõi người sanh sản nhiều thêm.
4 When Isaac grew up, I enabled him to have twin sons, Jacob and Esau. I enabled Esau to live in the hilly area in Seir region, but many years later Jacob and his sons and their families went down to live in Egypt.
Ta ban Gia-cốp và Ê-sau cho Y-sác, rồi ban núi Sê-i-rơ cho Ê-sau làm sản nghiệp; còn Gia-cốp và các con cái người đều đi xuống xứ Ê-díp-tô.
5 “[Many years later], I sent Moses and his older brother Aaron to help your people, and I caused [the people of] Egypt to suffer very much because of what I did there. Then I enabled your ancestors to leave Egypt.
Kế đó, ta sai Môi-se và A-rôn, dùng các phép lạ làm ra giữa xứ Ê-díp-tô mà hành hại nó; đoạn, ta đem các ngươi ra khỏi đó.
6 When I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, they came to the Red Sea. The Egyptian army pursued them, some riding in chariots and others on horses, and they also arrived at the Red Sea.
Ta bèn đem tổ phụ các ngươi ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, và các ngươi đi đến biển. Người Ê-díp-tô dùng xe binh và lính kỵ mà đuổi theo tổ phụ các ngươi đến Biển đỏ.
7 Then [your ancestors] pleaded with me to help them. So he caused (darkness/a very dark cloud) to come between your ancestors and the Egyptian army, so that the Egyptian army could not see your ancestors. I separated the water in the Red Sea so that your ancestors could cross it, but when the Egyptian army tried to cross in the same way to pursue them, I caused the water to come back and cover them, and the Egyptian soldiers all drowned, as your ancestors watched and were amazed [IDM]. But after that, you lived in the desert for many years.
Bấy giờ, tổ phụ các ngươi kêu cầu cùng Đức Giê-hô-va, Ngài bèn giáng sự tối tăm giữa các ngươi và dân Ê-díp-tô, dẫn nước biển lấp trên mình chúng nó, và mắt các ngươi đã thấy điều ta đã làm cho người Ê-díp-tô; và các ngươi có ở lâu ngày trong đồng vắng.
8 “Then I brought your [ancestors] to the area where the groups who were descendants of Amor lived, east of the Jordan River. They fought against you, but I enabled you to defeat them [IDM]. I [enabled you to] destroy them so that you could live in their land [IDM].
Kế đó, ta dẫn các ngươi vào xứ dân A-mô-rít, ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh; chúng nó chiến đấu cùng các ngươi, và ta có phó chúng nó vào tay các ngươi. Các ngươi chiếm xứ chúng nó làm sản nghiệp, và ta đã diệt chúng nó khỏi trước mặt các ngươi.
9 Then, Zippor’s son Balak, the King of Moab, (decided that his army would fight against/opposed) the Israelis. He summoned Beor’s son Balaam and asked him to curse you.
Ba-lác, con trai Xếp-bô, vua Mô-áp, chổi dậy chinh chiến với Y-sơ-ra-ên, sai đòi Ba-la-am, con trai Bê-ô, đặng rủa sả các ngươi.
10 But I would not do what Balaam asked, so he (blessed/said that I would do great things for) you four times, and I did not enable the army of Moab to defeat you [IDM].
Nhưng ta không muốn nghe Ba-la-am; vì vậy, người buộc phải chúc phước cho các ngươi, và ta giải cứu các ngươi khỏi tay Ba-lác.
11 “Then you all crossed the Jordan River and came to Jericho. The people of Jericho prepared to fight against you, [and the armies of] the descendants of Amor, Periz, Canaan, Heth, Girgash, Hiv, and Jebus [all prepared to do the same thing] but I enabled you to defeat [IDM] them all.
Sau khi qua sông Giô-đanh rồi, thì các ngươi đến thành Giê-ri-cô. Người Giê-ri-cô, dân A-mô-rít, dân Phê-rê-sít, dân Ca-na-an, dân Hê-tít, dân Ghi-rê-ga-sít, dân Hê-vít, và dân Giê-bu-sít chiến đấu cùng các ngươi và ta phó chúng nó vào tay các ngươi.
12 I am the one who caused them to panic as you advanced and enabled you to defeat them, as I had enabled you to do earlier to the two kings of the groups who were descendants of Amor. You did not defeat them by using your own bows and arrows and swords; [it was I who defeated them].
Ta sai ong lỗ đuổi chúng nó khỏi trước mặt các ngươi, y như hai vua dân A-mô-rít. Aáy chẳng phải nhờ gươm ngươi, cũng chẳng phải nhờ cung ngươi.
13 So I gave you a land that you had not tilled/planted, and I gave you cities that you did not build. [Now] you live in those [cities] and you eat the grapes from the grapevines that you did not plant, and you eat olives from trees that you did not plant.’”
Ta ban cho các ngươi đất mà các ngươi không có cày, những thành mà các ngươi không có xây, và các ngươi ở đó; những vườn nho và cây ô-li-ve mà các ngươi không có trồng, để dùng làm vật thực cho các ngươi.
14 [Then Joshua said to the people], “[Because of all that] Yahweh [has done for you], revere him, and serve/worship him very faithfully. Throw away the idols that your ancestors worshiped on the east/other side of the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve only Yahweh.
Vậy bây giờ, hãy kính sợ Đức Giê-hô-va, và phục sự Ngài cách thành tâm và trung tín; hãy bỏ xa các thần mà tổ phụ các ngươi hầu việc bên kia sông, và tại xứ Ê-díp-tô; phải phục sự Đức Giê-hô-va.
15 But if you do not want to serve/worship Yahweh, you should decide today what [gods] you will serve/worship. You should decide whether you will serve/worship the gods that your ancestors who lived on the other/east side of the Euphrates River served, or whether you will serve/worship the gods that the descendants of Amor, who previously lived in the land where you are now living, [serve/worship]. But as for me and my family [MTY], we will serve/worship Yahweh!”
Nếu chẳng thích cho các ngươi phục sự Đức Giê-hô-va, thì ngày nay hãy chọn ai mà mình muốn phục sự, hoặc các thần mà tổ phụ các ngươi đã hầu việc bên kia sông, hoặc các thần dân A-mô-rít trong xứ mà các ngươi ở; nhưng ta và nhà ta sẽ phục sự Đức Giê-hô-va.
16 The Israeli people answered, “We will never quit [serving/worshiping] Yahweh! We would never [think of] [IDM] serving/worshiping other gods!
Dân sự bèn đáp rằng: Chúng tôi quyết hẳn không lìa bỏ Đức Giê-hô-va mà hầu việc các thần khác!
17 It was our God, Yahweh, who brought our parents and grandparents up out of Egypt. [He rescued them] from that land where they were slaves. As he rescued them, they saw him perform great miracles. He protected them all the time when they were traveling. He protected them from all the people-groups through whose territory they traveled.
Vì Giê-hô-va là Đức Chúa Trời chúng tôi; ấy chính Ngài đã đem chúng tôi và tổ phụ chúng tôi lên khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, tức khỏi nhà nô lệ; Ngài đã làm trước mặt chúng tôi những phép lạ này, và phù hộ chúng tôi, hoặc trọn dọc đường đi, hoặc trong các dân mà chúng tôi trải qua.
18 As our forefathers advanced, Yahweh expelled the descendants of Amor and the other people-groups who lived in this land. Yahweh is our God, so [we are saying that] we also will serve/worship him.”
Đức Giê-hô-va đã đuổi khỏi trước mặt chúng tôi các dân tộc và dân A-mô-rít vốn ở trong xứ; vì vậy, chúng tôi cũng sẽ phục sự Đức Giê-hô-va, bởi Ngài là Đức Chúa Trời của chúng tôi.
19 Joshua replied to the people, “[I think that] you are not able to serve/worship Yahweh, because he is a holy God. He will not forgive your sinning and rebelling [against him]. He demands that you serve/worship only him [IDM].
Giô-suê nói cùng dân sự rằng: Các ngươi không đủ sức phục sự Đức Giê-hô-va, vì là Đức Chúa Trời thánh, Đức Chúa Trời kỵ tà, Ngài chẳng tha sự trái mạng và tội lỗi của các ngươi.
20 He has been good to you [in the past], but if you turn away from him and serve/worship foreign/other gods, he will turn [against you] and he will cause you to experience disasters. He will punish [IDM] you severely!”
Nếu các ngươi bỏ Đức Giê-hô-va, đi hầu việc các thần ngoại bang, thì Ngài sẽ trở lòng giáng họa cho các ngươi sau khi đã làm ơn cho các ngươi.
21 But the people replied to Joshua, “No, [we will not turn away from worshiping/serving Yahweh] We will serve/worship Yahweh!”
Dân sự bèn nói cùng Giô-suê rằng: Không đâu; vì chúng tôi sẽ phục sự Đức Giê-hô-va.
22 Then Joshua said, “You yourselves are saying that you have decided to serve/worship Yahweh.” They replied, “Yes, we are saying that.”
Vậy, Giô-suê nói cùng dân sự rằng: Các ngươi làm chứng lấy cho mình rằng chính các ngươi đã chọn Đức Giê-hô-va để phục sự Ngài. Dân sự đáp rằng: Chúng tôi làm chứng về điều đó.
23 Then Joshua said, “Since [you have decided] that, you must throw away all the other gods/idols that you have among you. You must also promise that you will wholeheartedly give yourselves to Yahweh, the God whom we Israelis [serve/worship].”
Vậy bây giờ, hãy cất các thần ngoại bang khỏi giữa các ngươi đi, hãy xây lòng về cùng Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời Y-sơ-ra-ên.
24 The people replied, “We will serve/worship Yahweh, our God, and obey him.”
Dân sự đáp cùng Giô-suê rằng: Chúng tôi sẽ phục sự Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, và nghe theo tiếng Ngài.
25 That day, Joshua established an agreement between the people and Yahweh. He wrote for them all the laws that they were required to obey.
Như vậy, trong ngày đó Giô-suê lập giao ước cùng dân sự, và truyền cho họ một luật pháp và điều răn tại Si-chem.
26 He wrote all those laws on a scroll. He called it ‘The laws of God’. Then he [told some men to] set up a large stone there at Shechem, under the [large] oak tree near the place where [they worshiped] Yahweh.
Đoạn, Giô-suê chép các lời này trong sách luật pháp của Đức Chúa Trời. Kế đó, người lấy một hòn đá lớn dựng tại đó ở dưới cây dẻ bộp gần nơi thánh của Đức Giê-hô-va.
27 He said to all the people, “Look! [It is as though] this stone has heard everything that Yahweh said to you [and that you promised Yahweh]. It will serve as a witness against you if you rebel against your God!”
Rồi Giô-suê nói cùng cả dân sự rằng: Kìa, hòn đá này sẽ dùng làm chứng cho chúng ta; vì nó có nghe mọi lời Đức Giê-hô-va đã phán cùng chúng ta; nó dùng làm chứng cho các ngươi, e các ngươi bỏ Đức Chúa Trời mình chăng.
28 Then Joshua sent the people away, and all of them returned to their own areas/homes.
Đoạn, Giô-suê cho dân sự trở về, ai nấy đều về trong sản nghiệp mình.
29 Some time after that, Nun’s son Joshua, the faithful servant of Yahweh, died. He was 110 years old when he died.
Sau các việc ấy, Giô-suê, con trai Nun, tôi tớ của Đức Giê-hô-va, qua đời, tuổi được một trăm mười.
30 The Israeli people buried his body on his own property in Timnath-Serah [town] town. It is north of Gaash Mountain in the hilly area of the tribe who were descendants of Ephraim.
Người ta chôn người trong địa phận đã bắt thăm về người tại Thim-nát-Sê-rách ở trên núi Eùp-ra-im, về phía bắc núi Ga-ách.
31 The Israeli people served/worshiped Yahweh as long as Joshua was alive. After Joshua died, they continued serving/worshiping Yahweh while the elders who had experienced everything that Yahweh had done for the Israeli people were still alive.
Y-sơ-ra-ên phục sự Đức Giê-hô-va trọn lúc sanh tiền của Giô-suê và các trưởng lão mà biết mọi việc Đức Giê-hô-va đã làm vì Y-sơ-ra-ên.
32 Joseph’s bones, which the Israeli people had brought with them from Egypt, were also buried at Shechem. The people buried them in the piece of land that Jacob had bought long ago for 100 pieces of silver from Hamor, the father of Shechem. That piece of land was in the area that was given to the people who were descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh, Joseph’s sons.
Hài cốt của Giô-sép mà dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã dời từ xứ Ê-díp-tô, thì người ta chôn ở Si-chem, trong đồng ruộng Gia-cốp mua của con cháu Hê-mô, cha Si-chem, giá một trăm miếng bạc; con cháu Giô-sép được hài cốt đó làm sản nghiệp.
33 Eleazar, the Supreme Priest, the son of Aaron, also died. They buried his body at Gibeah, in the area that had been given to Eleazar’s son Phinehas, in the hilly area that belonged to the people who were descendants of Ephraim.
Ê-lê-a-sa, con trai A-rôn, cũng qua đời; người ta chôn người tại Ghi-bê-át-Phi-nê-a, mà Phi-nê-a, con trai người, đã được ban cho trong núi Eùp-ra-im.
