< Joshua 22 >

1 Joshua then summoned the leaders of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh.
Then he summoned Joshua the Reubenite[s] and the Gadite[s] and [the] half of [the] tribe of Manasseh.
2 He said to them, “You have done everything that Moses, who served Yahweh [well], told you to do. You have also done what I told you to do.
And he said to them you you have kept all that he commanded you Moses [the] servant of Yahweh and you have listened to voice my to all that I have commanded you.
3 For a long time you have helped the other tribes [to defeat their enemies]. You have obeyed everything that Yahweh your God commanded you to do.
Not you have forsaken countrymen your this days many until the day this and you have kept [the] charge of [the] commandment of Yahweh God your.
4 He promised to give peace to us Israelis, and he has done what he promised. So now you may go back to your homes, to the land that Moses gave to you, on the east side of the Jordan [River].
And now he has given rest Yahweh God your to countrymen your just as he spoke to them and therefore turn and go for yourselves to tents your to [the] land of possession your which - he gave to you Moses [the] servant of Yahweh on [the] other side of the Jordan.
5 Moses also commanded you to love Yahweh your God and to obey his commands, and to continue to worship him and serve him by everything that you think and everything that you do.”
Only - take care exceedingly to do the commandment and the law which he commanded you Moses [the] servant of Yahweh to love Yahweh God your and to walk in all ways his and to keep commandments his and to cleave to him and to serve him with all heart your and with all being your.
6 Then Joshua blessed them and said goodbye to them, and they [prepared to] leave and return to their homes [on the east side of the Jordan River].
And he blessed them Joshua and he sent away them and they went to tents their.
7 Moses had given the Bashan region to half the tribe of Manasseh, and land on the west side of the Jordan [River] to the other half of the tribe. Before they left, he [asked God to] bless them.
And to [the] half of - [the] tribe of Manasseh he had given Moses in Bashan and to half of it he had given Joshua with countrymen their (on [the] other side of *Q(K)*) the Jordan west-ward and also if he sent away them Joshua to tents their and he blessed them.
8 He said, “Go back to your homes and to all the things that you have taken from your enemies—the many animals and silver and gold and [things made of] bronze and iron, and many beautiful clothes. But you should share some of those things with other people of your tribe.”
And he said to them saying with riches great return to tents your and with livestock much very with silver and with gold and with bronze and with iron and with garments many very divide [the] booty of enemies your with countrymen your.
9 So the people of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh left the other Israelis at Shiloh in Canaan land, to return to their homes in the Gilead region. That was the area that belonged to them. It had been allotted to them by Moses as Yahweh had commanded.
And they returned and they went [the] descendants of Reuben and [the] descendants of Gad and [the] half of - [the] tribe of Manasseh from with [the] people of Israel from Shiloh which [is] in [the] land of Canaan to go to [the] land of Gilead to [the] land of possession their which they had possessions in it on [the] mouth of Yahweh by [the] hand of Moses.
10 The people from those three tribes arrived near the western side of the Jordan River, at a town called Geliloth. There they built a large altar. [Then they crossed the Jordan River to the Gilead region].
And they came to Geliloth of the Jordan which [is] in [the] land of Canaan and they built [the] descendants of Reuben and [the] descendants of Gad and [the] half of [the] tribe of Manasseh there an altar at the Jordan an altar large of appearance.
11 But the other Israelis who were still at Shiloh heard about the altar that those men had built.
And they heard [the] people of Israel saying there! they have built [the] descendants of Reuben and [the] descendants of Gad and [the] half of [the] tribe of Manasseh the altar to opposite to [the] land of Canaan to Geliloth of the Jordan to [the] side of [the] people of Israel.
12 They became very angry with the men of those tribes, so they decided to fight them.
And they heard [the] people of Israel and they assembled all [the] congregation of [the] people of Israel Shiloh to go up on them for war.
13 The Israelis sent Phinehas, who was the son of Eleazar the Supreme Priest, to [talk with] the people of those three tribes.
And they sent [the] people of Israel to [the] descendants of Reuben and to [the] descendants of Gad and to [the] half of [the] tribe of Manasseh to [the] land of Gilead Phinehas [the] son of Eleazar the priest.
14 They also sent one leader from each of the ten tribes that were still at Shiloh. Each of them was a leader of his clan.
And ten leaders [were] with him a leader one a leader one to [the] house of a father to all [the] tribes of Israel and each [was] a leader of [the] house of fathers their they [belong] to [the] families of Israel.
15 Those leaders went to the Gilead region to talk to the people of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh. They said,
And they went to [the] descendants of Reuben and to [the] descendants of Gad and to [the] half of [the] tribe of Manasseh to [the] land of Gilead and they spoke with them saying.
16 “All the other Israelis are asking, ‘Why have you rebelled against the God whom we Israelis [worship] by building an altar for yourselves?
Thus they say all - [the] congregation of Yahweh what? [is] the unfaithfulness this which you have acted unfaithfully against [the] God of Israel by turning back this day from after Yahweh when built you for yourselves an altar by rebelling your this day against Yahweh.
17 Have you forgotten what happened at Peor, [when some Israelis sinned by worshiping the god that the Moab people-group worship]? Many Israelis became very sick and died because of that sin, and we are still suffering because of their sin.
¿ Little for us [was] [the] iniquity of Peor which not we have cleansed ourselves from it until the day this and it was the plague among [the] congregation of Yahweh.
18 Are you now turning away from obeying Yahweh and refusing to do what he wants? If you do not stop rebelling against Yahweh today, he will be angry with all of us Israelis tomorrow.’
And you you are turning away this day from after Yahweh and it will be you you are rebelling this day against Yahweh and tomorrow against all [the] congregation of Israel he will be angry.
19 “If [you think that Yahweh considers] that your land here is not suitable for worshiping him, come back to our land where Yahweh’s Sacred Tent is. We can share our land with you. But do not rebel against Yahweh and against us by building another altar for Yahweh our God.
And surely if [is] unclean [the] land of possession your pass over for yourselves into [the] land of [the] possession of Yahweh where it dwells there [the] tabernacle of Yahweh and have possessions in midst of us and against Yahweh may not you rebel and us to may you rebel when build you for yourselves an altar except [the] altar of Yahweh God our.
20 Do you remember what happened when Zerah’s son Achan refused to obey [Yahweh’s command to destroy everything in Jericho]? That one man disobeyed God’s command, but many [HYP] other Israelis were punished. Achan died because of his sin, but other Israelis also died.”
¿ Not - Achan [the] son of Zerah did he act unfaithfully unfaithfulness in the devoted thing[s] and towards all [the] congregation of Israel it was anger and he [was] a man one not did he die? for iniquity his.
21 The [leaders of the] tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh replied,
And they answered [the] descendants of Reuben and [the] descendants of Gad and [the] half of [the] tribe of Manasseh and they spoke with [the] leaders of [the] families of Israel.
22 “Yahweh, the Almighty God, knows [why we did that], and we want you to know, too. If we have done something wrong [against Yahweh], you may kill us.
El - God - Yahweh El - God - Yahweh he [is] knowing and Israel it let it know if in rebellion and if in unfaithfulness on Yahweh may not you save us the day this.
23 If we have disobeyed one of Yahweh’s laws, we request that he should punish us. We did not build that new altar to completely burn animals as sacrifices to Yahweh, or to offer on it sacrifices of grain or sacrifices to maintain fellowship with God.
To build for ourselves an altar to turn back from after Yahweh and if to offer up on it a burnt offering and a grain offering and if to make on it sacrifices of peace offerings Yahweh he may he require.
24 “This is the reason that we built that altar: We were afraid/worried that some day your descendants would say that our descendants are not true Israelis. We were afraid that then they would say, ‘You are not allowed to worship Yahweh, the God whom we Israelis [worship].
And if not from anxiety from a matter we have done this saying tomorrow they will say descendants your to descendants our saying what? [is] to you and to Yahweh [the] God of Israel.
25 Yahweh caused the Jordan River to be a boundary between us and you people of the tribes of Reuben and Gad. So you are not allowed to worship Yahweh.’ We were worried that your descendants would force our descendants to stop worshiping Yahweh.
And a border he has put Yahweh between us and between you [the] descendants of Reuben and [the] descendants of Gad the Jordan not [belongs] to you a portion in Yahweh and they will cause to cease descendants your descendants our to not to fear Yahweh.
26 “That is the reason that we decided to build that [new] altar. But it is not an altar for completely burning sacrifices of animals and [burning other] sacrifices.
And we said let us act please for ourselves by building the altar not for burnt offering and not for sacrifice.
27 We built that new altar to prove/show to you and to us and to all of our descendants that we worship Yahweh by completely burning animal sacrifices and offerings of grain and offerings to maintain fellowship with Yahweh [only at the place Yahweh chooses]. We do not want your descendants to say to our descendants, ‘You do not belong to Yahweh.’
For [is] a witness it between us and between you and between generations our after us to serve [the] service of Yahweh before him with burnt offerings our and with sacrifices our and with peace offerings our and not they will say descendants your tomorrow to descendants our not [belongs] to you a portion in Yahweh.
28 “In the future, if your descendants say that, our descendants can say, ‘Look at the altar that our ancestors made! It is exactly like Yahweh’s altar [that our ancestors built], but we do not burn sacrifices on it. It only shows that we are Israelis!’
And we said and it will be that they will say to us and to generations our tomorrow and we will say see [the] copy of [the] altar of Yahweh which they made ancestors our not for burnt offering and not for sacrifice for [is] a witness it between us and between you.
29 We certainly do not want to rebel against Yahweh or stop doing what he desires, by building an altar for completely burning some sacrifices and burning grain offerings and making [other] sacrifices. [We know that] there is only one true altar for Yahweh our God, and it is in front of the Sacred Tent [at Shiloh].”
Far be it to us from us to rebel against Yahweh and to turn back this day from after Yahweh by building an altar for burnt offering for grain offering and for sacrifice besides [the] altar of Yahweh God our which [is] before tabernacle his.
30 When Phinehas the priest and the other [ten] leaders heard what they said, they were pleased.
And he heard Phinehas the priest and [the] leaders of the congregation and [the] heads of [the] families of Israel who [were] with him the words which they spoke [the] descendants of Reuben and [the] descendants of Gad and [the] descendants of Manasseh and it was good in view their.
31 So Phinehas said to them, “Now we know that Yahweh is with all of us Israelis, and that you were not rebelling against him [when you built that altar]. And we know that Yahweh will not punish us Israelis [because of your having done that].”
And he said Phinehas [the] son of Eleazar the priest to [the] descendants of Reuben and to [the] descendants of Gad and to [the] descendants of Manasseh this day - we know that [is] among midst of us Yahweh that not you have acted unfaithfully against Yahweh the unfaithfulness this then you have delivered [the] people of Israel from [the] hand of Yahweh.
32 Then Phinehas and the Israeli leaders left the people of the tribes of Reuben and Gad in the Gilead region, and returned to Canaan. There they told the other Israelis what had happened.
And he returned Phinehas [the] son of Eleazar the priest - and the leaders from with [the] descendants of Reuben and from with [the] descendants of Gad from [the] land of Gilead to [the] land of Canaan to [the] people of Israel and they brought back with them word.
33 They were pleased, and they thanked God. And they did not talk any more about fighting against the people of the tribes of Reuben and Gad and destroying everything in their land.
And it was good the word in [the] eyes of [the] people of Israel and they blessed God [the] people of Israel and not they said to go up on them for war to destroy the land which [the] descendants of Reuben and [the] descendants of Gad [were] dwelling in it.
34 The people of the tribes of Reuben and Gad named their new altar ‘A reminder to us all that Yahweh is God’.
And they called [the] descendants of Reuben and [the] descendants of Gad the altar for [is] a witness it between us that Yahweh [is] God.
