Joshua 21
1 While Eleazar the Supreme Priest and Joshua and the leaders of all the Israeli tribes were at Shiloh, the leaders of the clans of the tribe of Levi went to them and said, “Yahweh commanded Moses that you should give us towns where we can have pasture/fields/grassland for our animals, [but you have not done these things yet].”
Or i capi famiglia de’ Leviti si accostarono al sacerdote Eleazar, a Giosuè figliuolo di Nun e ai capi famiglia delle tribù dei figliuoli d’Israele,
e parlaron loro a Sciloh, nel paese di Canaan, dicendo: “L’Eterno comandò, per mezzo di Mosè, che ci fossero date delle città da abitare, coi loro contadi per il nostro bestiame”.
3 So the Israeli leaders obeyed this command from Yahweh. They agreed to give towns and pasturelands to the tribe of Levi.
E i figliuoli d’Israele diedero, della loro eredità, ai Leviti le seguenti città coi loro contadi, secondo il comandamento dell’Eterno.
4 [First] they allotted some cities to the Kohath clans, who belonged to the tribe of Levi. To those who were descendants of the first Supreme Priest Aaron, they allotted 13 towns in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.
Si tirò a sorte per le famiglie dei Kehatiti; e i figliuoli del sacerdote Aaronne, ch’erano Leviti, ebbero a sorte tredici città della tribù di Giuda, della tribù di Simeone e della tribù di Beniamino.
5 To the other members of the Kohath clan they allotted ten cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lives on the west side of the Jordan River].
Al resto de’ figliuoli di Kehath toccarono a sorte dieci città delle famiglie della tribù di Efraim, della tribù di Dan e della mezza tribù di Manasse.
6 The people from the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh that lives on the east side of the Jordan [River].
Ai figliuoli di Gherson toccarono a sorte tredici città delle famiglie della tribù d’Issacar, della tribù di Ascer, della tribù di Neftali e della mezza tribù di Manasse in Basan.
7 The people from the Merari clans were allotted twelve cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
Ai figliuoli di Merari, secondo le loro famiglie, toccarono dodici città della tribù di Ruben, della tribù di Gad e della tribù di Zabulon.
8 So the Israeli leaders gave cities and pastureland to the tribe of Levi, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses that they should do.
I figliuoli d’Israele diedero dunque a sorte, coteste città coi loro contadi ai Leviti, come l’Eterno avea comandato per mezzo di Mosè.
9 These are the names of the cities and surrounding pasturelands that were allotted to them, that were in the areas where the tribes of Judah and Simeon lived.
Diedero cioè, della tribù dei figliuoli di Giuda e della tribù de’ figliuoli di Simeone, le città qui menzionate per nome,
10 First, they allotted cities to the members of the Kohath clans.
le quali toccarono ai figliuoli d’Aaronne di tra le famiglie dei Kehatiti, figliuoli di Levi, perché il primo lotto fu per loro.
11 They allotted to them Kiriath-Arba (which is [now named] Hebron), in the hilly area of Judah. Arba received its name because Arba was the ancestor of [the giants of] the Anak people-group.
Furono dunque date loro Kiriath-Arba, cioè Hebron, (Arba fu padre di Anak), nella contrada montuosa di Giuda, col suo contado tutt’intorno;
12 But the fields and villages surrounding Arba had already been allotted to Caleb.
ma diedero il territorio della città e i suoi villaggi come possesso a Caleb, figliuolo di Gefunne.
13 They allotted to them Hebron, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected. They also allotted to the Kohath clan the cities of Libnah,
E diedero ai figliuoli del sacerdote Aaronne la città di rifugio per l’omicida, Hebron e il suo contado; poi Libna e il suo contado,
14 Jattir, Eshtemoa,
Iattir e il suo contado, Eshtemoa e il suo contado,
15 Holon, Debir,
Holon e il suo contado, Debir e il suo contado,
16 Ain, Juttah, and Beth-Shemesh. Altogether they were allotted those nine cities which were located in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah and Simeon.
Ain e il suo contado, Iutta e il suo contado, e Beth-Scemesh e il suo contado: nove città di queste due tribù.
17 The Kohath clan was also allotted these four cities: Gibeon, Geba,
E della tribù di Beniamino, Gabaon e il suo contado, Gheba e il suo contado,
18 Anathoth, and Almon. Those cities were in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Benjamin.
Anatoth e il suo contado, e Almon e il suo contado: quattro città.
19 Altogether those 13 towns and surrounding pastureland were allotted to the priests who were descended from Aaron.
Totale delle città dei sacerdoti figliuoli d’Aaronne: tredici città e i loro contadi.
20 The other members the Kohath clan were allotted four cities and the surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Ephraim.
Alle famiglie dei figliuoli di Kehath, cioè al rimanente dei Leviti, figliuoli di Kehath, toccarono delle città della tribù di Efraim.
21 Those cities were Shechem (which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Gezer,
Fu loro data la città di rifugio per l’omicida, Sichem col suo contado nella contrada montuosa di Efraim; poi Ghezer e il suo contado,
22 Kibzaim, and Beth-Horon.
Kibetsaim e il suo contado, e Beth-Horon e il suo contado: quattro città.
23 They were also allotted four cities and surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Dan. Those cities were Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
Della tribù di Dan: Elteke e il suo contado, Ghibbethon e il suo contado,
24 Aijalon, and Gath-Rimmon.
Aialon e il suo contado, Gath-Rimmon e il suo contado: quattro città.
25 They were also allotted two towns and surrounding pastureland that had been allotted to [the] part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lived on the west side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Taanach and Gath-Rimmon.
Della mezza tribù di Manasse: Taanac e il suo contado, Gath-Rimmon e il suo contado: due città.
26 Those were the ten cities and surrounding pastureland that were allotted to the other members of the Kohath clan.
Totale: dieci città coi loro contadi, che toccarono alle famiglie degli altri figliuoli di Kehath.
27 They also allotted towns and the surrounding pastureland to the Gershon clans. Those clans were also descended from Levi. They were allotted two cities from the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Manasseh [that is on the east side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Golan in the Bashan region, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, and Be-Eshtarah.
Ai figliuoli di Gherson, che erano delle famiglie de’ Leviti, furon date: della mezza tribù di Manasse, la città di rifugio per l’omicida, Golan in Basan e il suo contado, e Beeshtra col suo contado: due città;
28 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Issachar they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Kishion, Daberath,
della tribù d’Issacar, Kiscion e il suo contado, Dabrath e il suo contado,
29 Jarmuth, and En-Gannim.
Iarmuth e il suo contado, En-Gannim e il suo contado: quattro città;
30 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Asher they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Mishal, Abdon,
della tribù di Ascer, Misceal e il suo contado, Abdon e il suo contado,
31 Helkath, and Rehob.
Helkath e il suo contado, e Rehob e il suo contado: quattro città;
32 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Naphtali they were allotted three cities. Those cities were Kedesh in the Galilee region (it was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Hammoth-Dor, and Kartan.
e della tribù di Neftali, la città di rifugio per l’omicida, Kedes in Galilea e il suo contado, Hammoth-Dor e il suo contado, e Kartan col suo contado: tre città.
33 So altogether the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities and the surrounding pasturelands.
Totale delle città dei Ghersoniti, secondo le loro famiglie: tredici città e i loro contadi.
34 The other descendants of Levi, the ones who belonged to the Merari clans, were also allotted towns and their surrounding pasturelands. From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Zebulun they were allotted four cities. They were Jokneam, Kartah,
E alle famiglie de’ figliuoli di Merari, cioè al rimanente de’ Leviti, furon date: della tribù di Zabulon, Iokneam e il suo contado, Karta e il suo contado,
35 Dimnah, and Nahalal.
Dimna e il suo contado, e Nahalal col suo contado: quattro città;
36 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Reuben they were allotted four cities. They were Bezer, Jahaz,
della tribù di Ruben, Betser e il suo contado, Iahtsa e il suo contado,
37 Kedemoth, and Mephaath.
Kedemoth e il suo contado e Mefaath e il suo contado: quattro città;
38 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Gad they were allotted four cities. They were Ramoth, which was one of the cities in the Gilead region to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, Mahanaim,
e della tribù di Gad, la città di rifugio per l’omicida, Ramoth in Galaad e il suo contado, Mahanaim e il suo contado,
39 Heshbon, and Jazer.
Heshbon e il suo contado, e Iaezer col suo contado: in tutto quattro città.
40 Altogether twelve cities were allotted to the Merari clans.
Totale delle città date a sorte ai figliuoli di Merari, secondo le loro famiglie formanti il resto delle famiglie dei Leviti: dodici città.
41 So altogether 48 cities were allotted to the tribe of Levi,
Totale delle città dei Leviti in mezzo ai possessi de’ figliuoli d’Israele: quarantotto città e i loro contadi.
42 and each city had surrounding pastureland.
Ciascuna di queste città aveva il suo contado tutt’intorno; così era di tutte queste città.
43 In that way Yahweh allotted to the Israeli people all the land that he had promised to give to their/our ancestors. The Israeli people took control of [most of] those areas and started to live there.
L’Eterno diede dunque a Israele tutto il paese che avea giurato ai padri di dar loro, e i figliuoli d’Israele ne presero possesso, e vi si stanziarono.
44 Just like he had promised our ancestors, Yahweh allowed them/us to have peace with the enemies that surrounded them/us. Yahweh enabled the Israelis/us to defeat their/our enemies.
E l’Eterno diede loro requie d’ogn’intorno, come avea giurato ai loro padri; nessuno di tutti i lor nemici poté star loro a fronte; l’Eterno diede loro nelle mani tutti quei nemici.
45 Yahweh did all the things that he had promised to the Israeli people/us. Everything that he said would happen did happen.
Di tutte le buone parole che l’Eterno avea dette alla casa d’Israele non una cadde a terra: tutte si compierono.
