Joshua 21
1 While Eleazar the Supreme Priest and Joshua and the leaders of all the Israeli tribes were at Shiloh, the leaders of the clans of the tribe of Levi went to them and said, “Yahweh commanded Moses that you should give us towns where we can have pasture/fields/grassland for our animals, [but you have not done these things yet].”
Alors vinrent les princes des familles de Lévi vers Eléazar, le prêtre, vers Josué, fils de Nun, et vers les chefs des familles de chaque tribu des enfants d’Israël.
Et ils leur parlèrent à Silo, dans la terre de Chanaan, et dirent: Le Seigneur a ordonné par l’entremise de Moïse, qu’on nous donnât des villes pour habiter, et leur faubourgs pour nourrir les bêtes.
3 So the Israeli leaders obeyed this command from Yahweh. They agreed to give towns and pasturelands to the tribe of Levi.
Et les enfants d’Israël donnèrent de leurs possessions, selon l’ordre du Seigneur, les villes et leurs faubourgs.
4 [First] they allotted some cities to the Kohath clans, who belonged to the tribe of Levi. To those who were descendants of the first Supreme Priest Aaron, they allotted 13 towns in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.
Et le sort assigna à la famille de Caath, pour les enfants d’Aaron, le prêtre, treize villes des tribus de Juda, de Siméon et de Benjamin;
5 To the other members of the Kohath clan they allotted ten cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lives on the west side of the Jordan River].
Et aux autres enfants de Caath, c’est-à-dire aux Lévites qui restaient, dix villes des tribus d’Ephraïm, de Dan, et de la demi-tribu de Manassé.
6 The people from the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh that lives on the east side of the Jordan [River].
Mais pour les enfants de Gerson, le sort décida qu’ils recevraient des villes au nombre de treize, des tribus d’Issachar, d’Aser, de Nephthali et de la demi-tribu de Manassé.
7 The people from the Merari clans were allotted twelve cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
Et pour les enfants de Mérari, selon leur parenté, douze villes des tribus de Ruben, de Gad et de Zabulon.
8 So the Israeli leaders gave cities and pastureland to the tribe of Levi, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses that they should do.
Les enfants d’Israël donnèrent aux Lévites ces villes et leurs faubourgs, comme avait ordonné le Seigneur par l’entremise de Moïse, les distribuant à chacun par le sort.
9 These are the names of the cities and surrounding pasturelands that were allotted to them, that were in the areas where the tribes of Judah and Simeon lived.
Josué donna les villes des tribus des enfants de Juda et de Siméon, dont voici les noms:
10 First, they allotted cities to the members of the Kohath clans.
Aux enfants d’Aaron d’entre les familles de Caath de la race lévitique (car le premier sort sortit pour eux),
11 They allotted to them Kiriath-Arba (which is [now named] Hebron), in the hilly area of Judah. Arba received its name because Arba was the ancestor of [the giants of] the Anak people-group.
Cariatharbé du père d’Enac, qui est appelée Hébron, sur la montagne du Juda, et ses faubourgs tout autour.
12 But the fields and villages surrounding Arba had already been allotted to Caleb.
Pour ses champs et ses villages, il les avait donnés à Caleb, fils de Jéphoné, pour les posséder.
13 They allotted to them Hebron, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected. They also allotted to the Kohath clan the cities of Libnah,
Il donna donc aux enfants d’Aaron, le prêtre, Hébron, ville de refuge, et ses faubourgs, ainsi que Lobna avec ses faubourgs;
14 Jattir, Eshtemoa,
Jéther, Estémo,
15 Holon, Debir,
Holon, Dabir,
16 Ain, Juttah, and Beth-Shemesh. Altogether they were allotted those nine cities which were located in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah and Simeon.
Aïn, Jeta et Bethsamès, avec leurs faubourgs: neuf villes des deux tribus, comme il a été dit.
17 The Kohath clan was also allotted these four cities: Gibeon, Geba,
De la tribu des enfants de Benjamin: Gabaon, Gabaé,
18 Anathoth, and Almon. Those cities were in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Benjamin.
Et Anathoth et Almon avec leurs faubourgs: quatre villes.
19 Altogether those 13 towns and surrounding pastureland were allotted to the priests who were descended from Aaron.
Toutes ces villes des enfants d’Aaron, le prêtre, forment ensemble le nombre de treize avec leurs faubourgs.
20 The other members the Kohath clan were allotted four cities and the surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Ephraim.
Quant aux autres enfants de Caath de la race lévitique, selon leurs familles, voici la possession qui leur fût donnée:
21 Those cities were Shechem (which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Gezer,
De la tribu d’Ephraïm, les villes de refuge, Sichem avec ses faubourgs, sur la montagne d’Ephraïm, Gazer,
22 Kibzaim, and Beth-Horon.
Et Cibsaïm et Beth-horon avec leurs faubourgs: quatre villes;
23 They were also allotted four cities and surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Dan. Those cities were Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
De la tribu de Dan, Elthéco, Gabathon,
24 Aijalon, and Gath-Rimmon.
Et Aïalon et Gethremmon, avec leurs faubourgs: quatre villes;
25 They were also allotted two towns and surrounding pastureland that had been allotted to [the] part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lived on the west side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Taanach and Gath-Rimmon.
Mais de la demi-tribu de Manassé, Thanach et Gethremmon, avec leurs faubourgs: deux villes.
26 Those were the ten cities and surrounding pastureland that were allotted to the other members of the Kohath clan.
En tout dix villes et leurs faubourgs furent donnés aux enfants de Caath, d’un rang inférieur.
27 They also allotted towns and the surrounding pastureland to the Gershon clans. Those clans were also descended from Levi. They were allotted two cities from the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Manasseh [that is on the east side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Golan in the Bashan region, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, and Be-Eshtarah.
Il donna aussi de la demi-tribu de Manassé, aux enfants de Gerson, de la race lévitique, les villes de refuge, Gaulon en Basan, et Bosra, avec leurs faubourgs: deux villes;
28 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Issachar they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Kishion, Daberath,
De la tribu d’Issachar, Césion, Dabéreth,
29 Jarmuth, and En-Gannim.
Et Jaramoth et Engannim, avec leurs faubourgs: quatre villes;
30 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Asher they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Mishal, Abdon,
De la tribu d’Aser, Masal, Abdon,
31 Helkath, and Rehob.
Et Helcath et Rohob, avec leurs faubourgs: quatre villes;
32 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Naphtali they were allotted three cities. Those cities were Kedesh in the Galilee region (it was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Hammoth-Dor, and Kartan.
Et aussi de la tribu de Nephthali, les villes de refuge, Cédés en Galilée, Hammoth-Dor et Carthan, avec leurs faubourgs: trois villes;
33 So altogether the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities and the surrounding pasturelands.
En tout, aux familles de Gerson, treize villes avec leurs faubourgs.
34 The other descendants of Levi, the ones who belonged to the Merari clans, were also allotted towns and their surrounding pasturelands. From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Zebulun they were allotted four cities. They were Jokneam, Kartah,
Mais aux enfants de Mérari, lévites d’un rang inférieur, et selon leurs familles, furent données de la tribu de Zabulon, Jecnan, Cartha,
35 Dimnah, and Nahalal.
Et Damna et Naalol: quatre villes avec leurs faubourgs;
36 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Reuben they were allotted four cities. They were Bezer, Jahaz,
De la tribu de Ruben, au-delà du Jourdain, contre Jéricho, les villes de refuge, Bosor dans le désert, Misor, Jaser, Jethson, et Méphaath: quatre villes avec leurs faubourgs;
37 Kedemoth, and Mephaath.
De la tribu de Gad, les villes de refuge, Ramoth en Galaad, Manaïm, Hésébon et Jazer: quatre villes avec leurs faubourgs;
38 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Gad they were allotted four cities. They were Ramoth, which was one of the cities in the Gilead region to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, Mahanaim,
39 Heshbon, and Jazer.
40 Altogether twelve cities were allotted to the Merari clans.
En tout, aux enfants de Mérari, selon leurs familles et leur parenté, douze villes.
41 So altogether 48 cities were allotted to the tribe of Levi,
Ainsi, toutes les villes des Lévites au milieu de la possession des enfants d’Israël furent au nombre de quarante-huit,
42 and each city had surrounding pastureland.
Avec leurs faubourgs, chacune ayant été distribuée selon les familles.
43 In that way Yahweh allotted to the Israeli people all the land that he had promised to give to their/our ancestors. The Israeli people took control of [most of] those areas and started to live there.
Le Seigneur Dieu donna ainsi à Israël toute la terre qu’il avait juré de livrer à leurs pères; et ils la possédèrent et ils y habitèrent.
44 Just like he had promised our ancestors, Yahweh allowed them/us to have peace with the enemies that surrounded them/us. Yahweh enabled the Israelis/us to defeat their/our enemies.
Et il leur donna la paix avec toutes les nations d’alentour; et nul de leurs ennemis n’osa leur résister; mais tous furent soumis à leur domination.
45 Yahweh did all the things that he had promised to the Israeli people/us. Everything that he said would happen did happen.
Pas même une seule parole de tout ce que Dieu avait promis de leur donner, ne fut vaine; mais toutes furent exactement accomplies.
