Joshua 21
1 While Eleazar the Supreme Priest and Joshua and the leaders of all the Israeli tribes were at Shiloh, the leaders of the clans of the tribe of Levi went to them and said, “Yahweh commanded Moses that you should give us towns where we can have pasture/fields/grassland for our animals, [but you have not done these things yet].”
Et les Chefs de famille des Lévites s'approchèrent du Prêtre Eléazar et de Josué, fils de Nun, et des Chefs de famille des Tribus des enfants d'Israël,
et leur parlèrent à Silo, dans le pays de Canaan, en ces termes: L'Éternel a ordonné par l'organe de Moïse qu'on nous donne des villes pour nous loger, avec leurs banlieues pour notre bétail.
3 So the Israeli leaders obeyed this command from Yahweh. They agreed to give towns and pasturelands to the tribe of Levi.
Alors les enfants d'Israël donnèrent aux Lévites, sur leur propriété, d'après l'ordre de l'Éternel, ces villes et leurs banlieues.
4 [First] they allotted some cities to the Kohath clans, who belonged to the tribe of Levi. To those who were descendants of the first Supreme Priest Aaron, they allotted 13 towns in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.
Et le sort fut tiré pour les familles des Kahathites. Et les fils du Prêtre Aaron d'entre les Lévites obtinrent par le sort, de la Tribu de Juda et de la Tribu de Siméon et de la Tribu de Benjamin, treize villes.
5 To the other members of the Kohath clan they allotted ten cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lives on the west side of the Jordan River].
Et les fils de Kahath restants obtinrent par le sort, des familles de la Tribu d'Ephraïm et de la Tribu de Dan et de la demi-Tribu de Manassé, dix villes.
6 The people from the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh that lives on the east side of the Jordan [River].
Et les fils de Gerson obtinrent par le sort, des familles de la Tribu d'Issaschar et de la Tribu d'Asser et de la Tribu de Nephthali et de la [seconde] moitié de la Tribu de Manassé en Basan, treize villes.
7 The people from the Merari clans were allotted twelve cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
Les fils de Merari, en raison de leurs familles, obtinrent de la Tribu de Ruben et de la Tribu de Gad et de la Tribu de Zabulon, douze villes.
8 So the Israeli leaders gave cities and pastureland to the tribe of Levi, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses that they should do.
Ainsi les enfants d'Israël donnèrent par le sort aux Lévites ces villes-là et leurs banlieues, comme l'Éternel l'avait ordonné par l'organe de Moïse.
9 These are the names of the cities and surrounding pasturelands that were allotted to them, that were in the areas where the tribes of Judah and Simeon lived.
Et de la Tribu des fils de Juda, et de la Tribu des fils de Siméon ils donnèrent ces villes qui vont être indiquées nominativement.
10 First, they allotted cities to the members of the Kohath clans.
Aux fils d'Aaron, familles des Kahathites, enfants de Lévi (car ils eurent le premier lot)
11 They allotted to them Kiriath-Arba (which is [now named] Hebron), in the hilly area of Judah. Arba received its name because Arba was the ancestor of [the giants of] the Anak people-group.
ils donnèrent la ville d'Arba (celui-ci est le père des Anakites), c'est-à-dire, Hébron dans la montagne de Juda et sa banlieue d'alentour.
12 But the fields and villages surrounding Arba had already been allotted to Caleb.
Quant à la campagne de la ville et à ses villages, ils les donnèrent à Caleb, fils de Jéphuné, en propriété.
13 They allotted to them Hebron, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected. They also allotted to the Kohath clan the cities of Libnah,
Et aux fils du Prêtre Aaron ils donnèrent la ville de refuge pour l'homicide, Hébron et sa banlieue, et Libna et sa banlieue
14 Jattir, Eshtemoa,
et Jatkthir et sa banlieue, et Esthmoa et sa banlieue,
15 Holon, Debir,
et Holon et sa banlieue, et Débir et sa banlieue,
16 Ain, Juttah, and Beth-Shemesh. Altogether they were allotted those nine cities which were located in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah and Simeon.
et Aïn et sa banlieue, et Jutta et sa banlieue, et Beth-Semès et sa banlieue: neuf villes de ces deux Tribus;
17 The Kohath clan was also allotted these four cities: Gibeon, Geba,
et de la Tribu de Benjamin, Gabaon et sa banlieue,
18 Anathoth, and Almon. Those cities were in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Benjamin.
et Geba et sa banlieue: et Anathoth et sa banlieue, et Almon et sa banlieue, quatre villes.
19 Altogether those 13 towns and surrounding pastureland were allotted to the priests who were descended from Aaron.
Total des villes des Prêtres, fils d'Aaron: treize villes avec leurs banlieues.
20 The other members the Kohath clan were allotted four cities and the surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Ephraim.
Et quant aux familles des fils de Kahath, Lévites restants des fils de Kahath, les villes de leur lot étaient de la Tribu d'Ephraïm.
21 Those cities were Shechem (which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Gezer,
Et ils leur donnèrent la ville de refuge pour l'homicide, Sichem et sa banlieue dans la montagne d'Ephraïm, et Gézer et sa banlieue,
22 Kibzaim, and Beth-Horon.
et Kibtsaïm et sa banlieue, et Beth-Horon et sa banlieue: quatre villes;
23 They were also allotted four cities and surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Dan. Those cities were Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
et de la Tribu de Dan, Elthékê et sa banlieue, Gibthon et sa banlieue,
24 Aijalon, and Gath-Rimmon.

25 They were also allotted two towns and surrounding pastureland that had been allotted to [the] part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lived on the west side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Taanach and Gath-Rimmon.
et de la demi-Tribu de Manassé, Thaënach et sa banlieue, et Gath-Rimmon et sa banlieue: deux villes;
26 Those were the ten cities and surrounding pastureland that were allotted to the other members of the Kohath clan.
total, dix villes avec leurs banlieues pour les familles des fils de Kahath restants.
27 They also allotted towns and the surrounding pastureland to the Gershon clans. Those clans were also descended from Levi. They were allotted two cities from the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Manasseh [that is on the east side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Golan in the Bashan region, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, and Be-Eshtarah.
Et aux fils de Gerson, des familles des Lévites, de la demi-Tribu de Manassé, la ville de refuge pour l'homicide, Golan en Basan et sa banlieue, et Béesthra et sa banlieue: deux villes;
28 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Issachar they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Kishion, Daberath,
et de la Tribu d'Issaschar, Kisjon et sa banlieue,
29 Jarmuth, and En-Gannim.
Dabrath et sa banlieue, Jarmuth et sa banlieue, Ein-Gannim et sa banlieue: quatre villes;
30 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Asher they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Mishal, Abdon,
et de la Tribu d'Asser, Miseal et sa banlieue, Abdon et sa banlieue,
31 Helkath, and Rehob.

32 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Naphtali they were allotted three cities. Those cities were Kedesh in the Galilee region (it was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Hammoth-Dor, and Kartan.
et de la Tribu de Nephthali, la ville de refuge pour l'homicide, Kédès en Galilée et sa banlieue, et Hammoth-Dor et sa banlieue, et Karthan et sa banlieue: trois villes.
33 So altogether the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities and the surrounding pasturelands.
Total des villes des Gersonites, en raison de leurs familles: treize villes avec leurs banlieues.
34 The other descendants of Levi, the ones who belonged to the Merari clans, were also allotted towns and their surrounding pasturelands. From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Zebulun they were allotted four cities. They were Jokneam, Kartah,
Et aux familles des fils de Merari, Lévites restants, de la Tribu de Zabulon, Jockneam et sa banlieue, Kartha et sa banlieue,
35 Dimnah, and Nahalal.
Dimna et sa banlieue, Nahalal et sa banlieue: quatre villes;
36 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Reuben they were allotted four cities. They were Bezer, Jahaz,
et de la Tribu de Ruben, Betser, et sa banlieue, et Jahtsah et sa banlieue,
37 Kedemoth, and Mephaath.
Kedémoth et sa banlieue, et Mephaath et sa banlieue: quatre villes;
38 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Gad they were allotted four cities. They were Ramoth, which was one of the cities in the Gilead region to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, Mahanaim,
et de la Tribu de Gad, la ville de refuge pour l'homicide, Ramoth en Galaad et sa banlieue,
39 Heshbon, and Jazer.
et Mahanaïm et sa banlieue, Hesbon et sa banlieue, Jaëzer et sa banlieue; total des villes: quatre.
40 Altogether twelve cities were allotted to the Merari clans.
Total des villes des fils de Merari, selon leurs familles, du reste des familles des Lévites, lot qui leur échut: douze villes.
41 So altogether 48 cities were allotted to the tribe of Levi,
Total des villes des Lévites enclavées dans la propriété des enfants d'Israël, quarante-huit villes avec leurs banlieues.
42 and each city had surrounding pastureland.
Et ces villes avaient chacune sa banlieue qui l'entourait; ainsi en était-il de toutes ces villes-là.
43 In that way Yahweh allotted to the Israeli people all the land that he had promised to give to their/our ancestors. The Israeli people took control of [most of] those areas and started to live there.
C'est ainsi que l'Éternel donna aux Israélites tout le pays qu'il avait juré de donner à leurs pères, et ils en prirent possession et s'y établirent.
44 Just like he had promised our ancestors, Yahweh allowed them/us to have peace with the enemies that surrounded them/us. Yahweh enabled the Israelis/us to defeat their/our enemies.
Et l'Éternel leur donna repos de tous les côtés conformément à la totalité du serment qu'il avait fait à leurs pères. Et aucun de leurs ennemis ne tint devant eux; l'Éternel livra tous leurs ennemis entre leurs mains.
45 Yahweh did all the things that he had promised to the Israeli people/us. Everything that he said would happen did happen.
Et de toutes les excellentes promesses que l'Éternel avait faites à la maison d'Israël, aucune ne tomba, tout s'accomplit.
