Joshua 21
1 While Eleazar the Supreme Priest and Joshua and the leaders of all the Israeli tribes were at Shiloh, the leaders of the clans of the tribe of Levi went to them and said, “Yahweh commanded Moses that you should give us towns where we can have pasture/fields/grassland for our animals, [but you have not done these things yet].”
Et les chefs de famille des fils de Levi allèrent trouver Eléazar le prêtre, Josué, fils de Nau, et les chefs de famille des tribus d'Israël.
Ils leur parlèrent, en Silo, dans la terre de Chanaan, disant: Le Seigneur a ordonné à Moïse de nous donner des villes à habiter et leurs banlieues, pour notre bétail.
3 So the Israeli leaders obeyed this command from Yahweh. They agreed to give towns and pasturelands to the tribe of Levi.
En conséquence, les fils d'Israël donnèrent aux lévites pour les posséder en héritage, selon l'ordre du Seigneur, des villes avec leurs banlieues;
4 [First] they allotted some cities to the Kohath clans, who belonged to the tribe of Levi. To those who were descendants of the first Supreme Priest Aaron, they allotted 13 towns in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.
Le lot de la famille de Caath fut désigné le premier, et les fils d'Aaron, prêtres et lévites, eurent treize villes des tribus de Juda, de Siméon et de Benjamin;
5 To the other members of the Kohath clan they allotted ten cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lives on the west side of the Jordan River].
Le reste des fils de Caath eut dix villes des tribus d'Ephraïm, et de Dan et de la demi-tribu de Manassé;
6 The people from the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh that lives on the east side of the Jordan [River].
Le lot des fils de Gerson fut ensuite désigné; ils eurent treize villes des tribus d'Issachar, d'Aser et de Nephtbali et de la demi-tribu de Manassé, au delà du Jourdain;
7 The people from the Merari clans were allotted twelve cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
Le lot des fils de Mérari, par familles, fut désigné; ils eurent douze villes des tribus de Ruben, de Gad et de Zabulon.
8 So the Israeli leaders gave cities and pastureland to the tribe of Levi, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses that they should do.
Les fils d'Israël donnèrent aux lévites, par le sort, ces villes avec leurs banlieues, comme le Seigneur l'avait prescrit à Moïse.
9 These are the names of the cities and surrounding pasturelands that were allotted to them, that were in the areas where the tribes of Judah and Simeon lived.
La tribu de Juda, celle de Siméon et une part de celle de Benjamin, livrèrent ces villes, et elles furent possédées
10 First, they allotted cities to the members of the Kohath clans.
Par les fils d'Aaron, de la famille de Caath, de la tribu de Lévi, parce que le sort les leur avait assignées.
11 They allotted to them Kiriath-Arba (which is [now named] Hebron), in the hilly area of Judah. Arba received its name because Arba was the ancestor of [the giants of] the Anak people-group.
On leur donna aussi Cariath-Arboc, métropole des fils d'Enac, la même qu'Hébron dans les montagnes de Juda, et la banlieue qui l'entoure;
12 But the fields and villages surrounding Arba had already been allotted to Caleb.
Quant aux champs de la ville et à ses villages, Josué les avait donnés en pleine possession aux fils de Caleb, fils de Jéphoné.
13 They allotted to them Hebron, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected. They also allotted to the Kohath clan the cities of Libnah,
Aux fils d'Aaron, il donna cette ville d'Hébron, comme ville de refuge pour les meurtriers, avec toutes les dépendances qui y étaient attachées; il leur donna aussi Lemna et ses dépendances;
14 Jattir, Eshtemoa,
Elom et ses dépendances, Tema et ses dépendances,
15 Holon, Debir,
Gella et ses dépendances, Dabir et ses dépendances, Bethsamys et ses dépendances: neuf villes des deux tribus de Juda et de Siméon;
16 Ain, Juttah, and Beth-Shemesh. Altogether they were allotted those nine cities which were located in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah and Simeon.
Asa et ses dépendances, Tana et ses dépendances;
17 The Kohath clan was also allotted these four cities: Gibeon, Geba,
Ils eurent, de la tribu de Benjamin, Gabaon et ses dépendances, Gatheth et ses dépendances,
18 Anathoth, and Almon. Those cities were in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Benjamin.
Anathoth et ses dépendances, Gamala et ses dépendances: quatre villes;
19 Altogether those 13 towns and surrounding pastureland were allotted to the priests who were descended from Aaron.
En tout treize villes pour les prêtres, fils d'Aaron.
20 The other members the Kohath clan were allotted four cities and the surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Ephraim.
Les familles des fils de Caath, le reste des lévites issus de Caath eurent d'abord la ville des prêtres dans la tribu d'Ephraïm.
21 Those cities were Shechem (which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Gezer,
On leur donna Sichem, la ville de refuge pour les meurtriers, avec ses dépendances; ils eurent, en outre, Gazara, sa banlieue et ses dépendances,
22 Kibzaim, and Beth-Horon.
Et les deux Betboron avec leurs dépendances: quatre villes.
23 They were also allotted four cities and surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Dan. Those cities were Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
Ils eurent encore, de la tribu de Dan, Helcotaïm et ses dépendances, Géthédan et ses dépendances,
24 Aijalon, and Gath-Rimmon.
Elon et ses dépendances, Géthéremmon et ses dépendances: quatre villes;
25 They were also allotted two towns and surrounding pastureland that had been allotted to [the] part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lived on the west side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Taanach and Gath-Rimmon.
Et, de la demi-tribu de Manassé, Tanach et ses dépendances, et Jébada et ses dépendances: deux villes.
26 Those were the ten cities and surrounding pastureland that were allotted to the other members of the Kohath clan.
En tout dix villes et leurs dépendances pour le reste des fils de Caath.
27 They also allotted towns and the surrounding pastureland to the Gershon clans. Those clans were also descended from Levi. They were allotted two cities from the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Manasseh [that is on the east side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Golan in the Bashan region, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, and Be-Eshtarah.
Aux lévites, fils de Gerson, il fut donné, de l'autre demi-tribu de Manassé, la ville assignée aux meurtriers, Gaulon, dans le royaume de Basan, avec ses dépendances, et Bosora avec ses dépendances: deux villes.
28 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Issachar they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Kishion, Daberath,
De la tribu d'Issachar: Cison et ses dépendances, Debba et ses dépendances,
29 Jarmuth, and En-Gannim.
Remniath et ses dépendances, et la Fontaine des Lettres, avec ses dépendances: quatre villes;
30 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Asher they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Mishal, Abdon,
De la tribu d'Aser: Basella avec ses dépendances, et Dabbon avec ses dépendances,
31 Helkath, and Rehob.
Chelcat avec ses dépendances, et Rhaab avec ses dépendances: quatre villes;
32 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Naphtali they were allotted three cities. Those cities were Kedesh in the Galilee region (it was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Hammoth-Dor, and Kartan.
De la tribu de Nephthali, la ville de refuge Cadès en Galilée et ses dépendances, Nemmath et ses dépendances, et Themmon avec ses dépendances: trois villes.
33 So altogether the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities and the surrounding pasturelands.
En tout pour les fils de Gerson, par familles, treize villes.
34 The other descendants of Levi, the ones who belonged to the Merari clans, were also allotted towns and their surrounding pasturelands. From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Zebulun they were allotted four cities. They were Jokneam, Kartah,
A la famille des fils de Mérari, au reste des lévites, il fut donné de la tribu de Zabulon, Maan et sa banlieue, Cadès et sa banlieue,
35 Dimnah, and Nahalal.
Sella et sa banlieue: trois villes;
36 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Reuben they were allotted four cities. They were Bezer, Jahaz,
Et au delà du Jourdain, en face de Jéricho, de la tribu de Ruben, la ville de refuge Bosor, dans le désert, la même que Miso et sa banlieue, Jazer et sa banlieue,
37 Kedemoth, and Mephaath.
Decmon et sa banlieue, Mapha et sa banlieue: quatre villes;
38 From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Gad they were allotted four cities. They were Ramoth, which was one of the cities in the Gilead region to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, Mahanaim,
De la tribu de Gad, la ville de refuge Ramoth en Galaad et sa banlieue, Camin et sa banlieue,
39 Heshbon, and Jazer.
Esebon et sa banlieue, Jazer et sa banlieue: en tout quatre villes.
40 Altogether twelve cities were allotted to the Merari clans.
Telles sont toutes les villes données par familles, au reste des lévites, aux fils de Mérari, et leur nombre fut limité à douze.
41 So altogether 48 cities were allotted to the tribe of Levi,
Les lévites eurent ainsi, au milieu des possessions des fils d'Israël, quarante-huit villes
42 and each city had surrounding pastureland.
Et leurs banlieues; ils eurent chaque ville avec sa banlieue, et toutes ces villes étaient entourées de banlieues.
43 In that way Yahweh allotted to the Israeli people all the land that he had promised to give to their/our ancestors. The Israeli people took control of [most of] those areas and started to live there.
C'est ainsi que le Seigneur donna à Israël toute la terre qu'il avait promis à leurs pères de leur donner, ils en prirent possession et ils l'habitèrent.
44 Just like he had promised our ancestors, Yahweh allowed them/us to have peace with the enemies that surrounded them/us. Yahweh enabled the Israelis/us to defeat their/our enemies.
Et le Seigneur, comme il l'avait promis à leurs pères, rétablit la paix tout alentour; de tous leurs ennemis, nul ne se souleva contre eux. Le Seigneur avait livré tous leurs ennemis à leurs mains,
45 Yahweh did all the things that he had promised to the Israeli people/us. Everything that he said would happen did happen.
Aucune des bonnes paroles que le Seigneur avait dites aux fils d'Israël ne tomba à terre; toutes furent vérifiées.
