Job 1
1 In the land named Uz, there was a man named Job. He was a very godly/righteous [DOU] man, who greatly respected/revered God and always avoided doing evil things.
Il y avait en la terre de Hus, un homme appelé Job; et cet homme était intègre, irréprochable, juste, pieux, et il s'abstenait de toute mauvaise action.
2 He had seven sons and three daughters.
Et il avait sept fils et trois filles.
3 He owned 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 1,000 oxen, and 500 female donkeys. He also had many servants. He was the richest man in all the area east [of the Jordan River].
Et ses troupeaux étaient sept mille moutons, trois mille chamelles, cinq cents paires de bœufs, cinq cents ânesses au pâturage, et il avait une multitude de serviteurs et de grands travaux sur la terre; et cet homme avait la noblesse des fils de l'Orient.
4 Each year, Job’s sons made feasts [in their houses] to celebrate their birthdays. Whenever each one made a feast, he would invite [all his brothers and] his three sisters to come and eat together.
Et ses fils, se réunissant tour à tour, faisaient chaque jour un festin, et ils accueillaient aussi leurs trois sœurs pour boire et manger avec eux.
5 When each celebration ended, Job would summon them. He would get up early in the morning and kill animals and burn them on the altar as sacrifices, one for each of his children. He said to himself, “Perhaps [one of] my sons has sinned and said something evil about God in his heart.”
Et dès que leurs jours de repas étaient écoulés, Job, s'étant levé de grand matin, les convoquait; et il les purifiait, et il immolait autant de victimes que le comportait leur nombre et de plus un bœuf pour le péché de leurs âmes. Car Job disait: Qui sait si les fils au fond du cœur, n'ont pas eu de mauvaises pensées contre Dieu? Ainsi faisait donc Job toutes les fois.
6 One day, the angels came and gathered together in front of Yahweh, and Satan came too.
Or, l'un de ces jours-là, les anges de Dieu s'en vinrent comparaître devant le Seigneur, et le diable vint avec eux.
7 Yahweh asked Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan replied, “I have come from the earth, where I been traveling back and forth, seeing what is happening.”
Et le Seigneur dit au diable: D'où viens-tu? Et le diable répondit: J'arrive après avoir fait le tour de la terre et parcouru tout ce qui est sous le ciel.
8 Yahweh said to Satan, “Have you (noticed/thought about) my [faithful] servant Job? He is very godly/righteous [DOU], he greatly respects/reveres me, and he always avoids doing evil things. There is no one else on the earth like him.”
Et le Seigneur reprit: As-tu remarqué Job, mon serviteur? as-tu reconnu qu'il n'a point son pareil sur la terre, que c'est un homme irréprochable, sincère, pieux, et qui s'abstient de toute mauvaise action?
9 Satan replied to Yahweh, “[What you say is true], but Job greatly respects you [only] because of what [you have done for him] [RHQ].
Et le diable répondit et dit devant le Seigneur: Est-ce gratis que Job honore le Seigneur?
10 You have always [RHQ] protected [MET] him and his family and everything that he owns. You have made him very prosperous/rich. He has livestock all over this land.
N'avez-vous point fortifié sa maison, au-dedans comme au dehors, et, alentour tout ce qui lui appartient? n'avez-vous béni ses œuvres et multiplié ses troupeaux sur la terre?
11 But if you take away [MTY] everything that he has, he will curse you openly. [IDM]”
Mais étendez votre main et qu'elle touche à ce qu'il possède, sinon il vous bénira en face.
12 Yahweh replied to Satan, “(All right/Okay), I will permit you to take away everything that he has. But do not harm him.” Then Satan left, [and he prepared to cause many disastrous things to happen to Job].
Alors le Seigneur dit au diable: Tu vois tout ce qui est à lui, je te le livre, mais ne touche pas à sa personne. Et le diable sortit de devant le Seigneur.
13 One day [after that], Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the home of their oldest brother.
Or, peu de temps après ce jour-là, les fils de Job et ses filles buvaient du vin en la maison de l'aîné de leurs frères.
14 While they were doing that, a messenger arrived at Job’s home and said to him, “While your oxen were plowing [the fields] and the donkeys were grazing nearby,
Et un messager entra chez Job et il lui dit: Tes attelages de bœufs étaient au labour et les ânesses paissaient tout auprès.
15 a group of men from [the] Sheba [area] came and attacked us. They killed all your servants [who were working in the fields] and took away all the oxen and donkeys! I am the only one who escaped to [come and] tell you what happened.”
Et des hommes en armes sont venus et ils les ont enlevés, et ils ont tué tes serviteurs à coups de glaive; j'ai seul échappé et j'accours t'en apporter la nouvelle.
16 While he was still talking to Job, another messenger arrived. He said to Job, “Lightning from the sky [MTY] struck and killed all the sheep and all the men who were taking care of the sheep! I am the only one who escaped to [come and] tell you [what happened].”
Comme celui-ci parlait encore survint un autre messager, et il dit à Job: Le feu du ciel est tombé et il a brûlé tes brebis, et il a dévoré pareillement les bergers; j'ai seul échappé et j'accours t'en apporter la nouvelle.
17 While he was still talking to Job, another messenger arrived. He said to Job, “Three groups [of robbers/bandits] from Chaldea [land] came and attacked us. They stole all the camels and killed all the men who were taking care of them. I am the only one who escaped to [come and] tell you [what happened].”
Comme celui-ci parlait encore survint un autre messager, et il dit à Job: Des cavaliers nous ont attaqués sur trois points, et ils ont enveloppé tes chamelles, et ils les ont enlevées; et ils ont tué tes serviteurs à coups de glaive; j'ai seul échappé et j'accours t'en apporter la nouvelle.
18 While he was still talking to Job, another messenger arrived and reported this to Job: “Your sons and daughters were feasting in the home of their oldest brother.
Comme celui-ci parlait encore survint un autre messager, et il dit à Job: Tandis que tes fils et tes filles étaient à manger et à boire chez leur frère aîné,
19 Suddenly a (very strong wind/tornado) came from the desert and struck the house. The house collapsed on your sons and daughters and killed them all! I am the only one who escaped to [come and] tell you [what happened].”
Soudain un grand vent est venu du désert et il a saisi les quatre coins de la maison; et elle s'est écroulée sur tes enfants; et ils sont morts; j'ai seul échappé et j'accours t'en apporter la nouvelle.
20 Job stood up, and tore his robe and shaved his head [because he was very sad/grieved]. Then he prostrated himself on the ground [to worship God].
Or, Job s'étant levé déchira ses vêtements, et il se coupa toute la chevelure, et, s'est prosternant la face contre terre, il adora, et il dit:
21 He said, “When I was born, I had no clothes on. When I die, I will not take any clothes with me. Yahweh gave me [everything that I possessed], and [now] he has taken it all away. But (we should/I will) always praise Yahweh [anyway]! [MTY]”
Nu je suis sorti des entrailles de ma mère, nu je partirai d'ici; le Seigneur n'avait donné, le Seigneur m'a ôté, il est advenu comme il a plu au Seigneur; béni soit le nom du Seigneur.
22 In spite of all these [things that happened to] Job, [he] did not sin by saying that what God had done was wrong.
Malgré tout ce qui lui est arrivé, Job ne pécha point contre le Seigneur; et il n'accusa point Dieu d'avoir manqué de sagesse.
