Jeremiah 44
1 [This is] the message that Yahweh gave me concerning the Jews who were living in [northern] Egypt—in Migdol, Tahpenes, and Memphis [cities], and in the Pathros [region in southern Egypt]:
Das Wort, welches an Jeremia in betreff aller der Judäer erging, die in Ägypten wohnen, die in Migdol, Thachpanhes, Noph und im Lande Pathros wohnen, also lautend:
2 “This is what [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], say: ‘You saw the disaster that I caused [the people in] Jerusalem and the other towns in Judah to experience. Those towns are now ruined and deserted.
So spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Ihr habt all' das Unheil gesehen, das ich über Jerusalem und über alle Städte Judas gebracht habe, - die sind nun heute eine Wüstenei und entvölkert! -
3 [That happened] because I was extremely angry with them on account of their being very wicked. They burned incense to other gods and worshiped them. They were gods that you [previously] did not know about, and your ancestors also [did not know about them].
wegen der Bosheit, die sie verübt haben, mich zum Zorne zu reizen, indem sie hingingen, um andern Göttern zu räuchern, die sie nicht kannten.
4 Many times I sent my prophets who served me, to say to them, “Do not do those abominable things that I hate!”
Wohl sandte ich unermüdlich immer wieder alle meine Knechte, die Propheten, zu euch, euch zu sagen: Thut doch diese greulichen Dinge, die ich hasse, nicht!
5 But my people would not pay any attention [DOU] [to what I said to them]. They would not turn away from their wicked behavior, or stop burning incense to [worship/honor] other gods.
Aber sie hörten nicht, noch neigten sie ihr Ohr, daß sie sich von ihrer Bosheit bekehrt hätten, so daß sie andern Göttern nicht mehr räucherten.
6 So I poured out my anger [MTY] on them. I punished people on the streets of Jerusalem and on the [other] towns in Judah. It caused those towns to be ruined and deserted, and they are still like that.’
Und so ergoß sich mein Grimm und mein Zorn und loderte auf in den Städten Judas und auf den Gassen Jerusalems, so daß sie zur Wüstenei, zur Einöde wurden, wie es heute der Fall ist.
7 So now [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], ask you: ‘Why are you causing yourselves to experience these disasters? [Do you not realize that because of what you are doing], soon there will be no more men or women or children or infants left among you [who have come here to Egypt] from Judah?
Und nun, - so spricht Jahwe, der Gott der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Warum wollt ihr denn euch selbst großes Unheil bereiten, indem ihr euch Mann und Weib, Knabe und Säugling aus dem Bereiche Judas ausrottet, so daß ihr keinen Rest von euch übrig laßt,
8 Why are you [RHQ] provoking me and causing me to be very angry by burning incense to the idols that you have made here in Egypt? [If you continue doing this, ] you will destroy yourselves, and you will cause yourselves to be people whom all the nations on the earth will curse and despise.
indem ihr mich durch die Machwerke eurer Hände zum Zorne reizt, indem ihr andern Göttern räuchert in Ägypten, wohin ihr euch begeben wollt, um dort als Fremdlinge zu weilen, auf daß ihr ausgerottet und zu einem Gegenstande des Fluchs und der Beschimpfung unter allen Völkern der Erde werdet?
9 Have you forgotten [how I punished] your ancestors for the wicked things that they did, and [how I punished] the kings and queens of Judah for what they did, and you and your wives for the sins that you committed in the streets of Jerusalem and [the other towns] in Judah?
Habt ihr etwa die Übelthaten eurer Väter und die Übelthaten der Könige Judas und die Übelthaten eurer Oberen und eure eigenen Übelthaten und die Übelthaten eurer Weiber, die sie im Lande Juda und auf den Gassen Jerusalems verübt haben, vergessen?
10 Up until this day you have not humbled yourselves or revered me. You have not obeyed the laws and decrees [DOU] that I gave to you and your ancestors.’
Bis auf den heutigen Tag wurden sie nicht zerknirscht, noch fürchten sie sich, noch wandelten sie nach meinem Gesetz und nach meinen Satzungen, die ich euch und euren Vätern vorgelegt habe.
11 Therefore, this is what [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], say: ‘I am determined to cause all of you to experience disasters and to get rid of every one of you.
Darum, so spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Nun richte ich mein Antlitz auf euch zum Unheil, und zwar um ganz Juda auszurotten!
12 [You] people from Judah who have survived were determined to come and live here in Egypt. So I will get rid of all of you here in Egypt. Every one of you will die, including those who are important and those who are not important. [Some of] you will be killed by [your enemies’] swords, [some will die] from famines. You will become [people whom others] curse, be horrified about, and make fun of.
Ich will die von Juda Übriggebliebenen, die ihre Absicht darauf gerichtet haben, nach Ägypten zu ziehen, um dort als Fremdlinge zu weilen, hinwegraffen: allesamt sollen sie aufgerieben werden, sollen sie in Ägypten fallen; durch das Schwert, durch den Hunger sollen sie aufgerieben werden, klein und groß: durch Schwert und Hunger sollen sie umkommen. Und so sollen sie zu einem Gegenstande der Verwünschung und des Entsetzens, des Fluchs und der Beschimpfung werden.
13 I will punish you here in Egypt like I punished [others in] Jerusalem, [some of whom were killed] by [their enemies’] swords and [some of whom] died from famines or diseases.
Heimsuchen will ich die, die in Ägypten wohnen, wie ich Jerusalem heimgesucht habe, durchs Schwert, durch Hunger und Pest,
14 You people who did not die in Judah fled here to Egypt, hoping that [some day] you would return to Judah. But very few [HYP] of you will survive and escape. You are longing/wanting to remain alive and return to Judah, but only a very few of you will escape and be able to do that.’”
und von dem Überreste Judas, von denen, die nach Ägypten gelangt sind, um daselbst als Fremdlinge zu weilen, soll es keinem gelingen, sich zu retten und zu entfliehen, nämlich um ins Land Juda zurückzukehren, wohin zurückzukehren sie Verlangen tragen, um sich dort niederzulassen: denn sie werden nicht zurückkehren außer etlichen Entronnenen!
15 Then a large group of the people who had started to live in northern Egypt and southern Egypt, including all the men who knew that their wives had been burning incense to other gods, and all the women who were standing there, said this to me:
Da antworteten Jeremia alle die Männer, welche wußten, daß ihre Weiber andern Göttern räucherten, und alle Weiber, die in großer Schar dabei standen, und alles Volk, das in Ägypten, in Pathros wohnte, folgendermaßen:
16 “You are saying that [MTY] Yahweh gave messages to you, but we will not pay any attention to your messages!
Was das anbetrifft, was du zu uns im Namen Jahwes geredet hast, so hören wir nicht auf dich,
17 We will certainly do everything that we said that we would do. We will burn incense to [worship our goddess Astarte, ] the Queen of Heaven, and we will pour out offerings [of wine] to her, just like we and our ancestors and our kings and [their] officials have [always] done in the streets of Jerusalem and in the [other] towns in Judah. At that time, we had plenty of food, and we were prosperous and we did not have any troubles.
sondern wir wollen das Gelübde, das wir ausgesprochen haben, der Himmelskönigin zu räuchern und ihr Trankopfer zu spenden, in seinem ganzen Umfang ausführen, gleichwie wir es gethan haben samt unsern Vätern, unsern Königen und unsern Oberen in den Städten Judas und auf den Gassen Jerusalems; da hatten wir Brot genug und befanden uns wohl und brauchten kein Unheil zu erleben.
18 But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and giving her offerings [of wine], we have had many troubles, and [some of our people] have been killed by [our enemies’] swords and [some have died] from hunger.”
Seitdem wir aber aufgehört haben, der Himmelskönigin zu räuchern und ihr Trankopfer zu spenden, hatten wir Mangel an allem und wurden durch das Schwert und den Hunger aufgerieben.
19 And [the women said], “[Furthermore], we burned incense and poured out [wine] offerings to the Queen of Heaven, and we also made small cakes that resembled her idol, to offer to her. But our husbands certainly knew about [and approved of] [RHQ] what we were doing!”
Und wenn wir jetzt der Himmelskönigin räuchern und ihr Trankopfer spenden, - geschieht es etwa ohne Vorwissen unserer Männer, daß wir ihr Kuchen bereiten, um sie so abzubilden, und ihr Trankopfer spenden?
20 Then I said to all the men and women who had answered me,
Da sprach Jeremia zu dem gesamten Volke, zu den Männern und den Weibern und zu dem gesamten Volke, die ihm mit solcher Rede begegneten, also:
21 “Do not think [RHQ] that Yahweh did not know that you and your ancestors and your kings and their officials and all the other people in Judah were burning incense to [worship/honor] idols in the streets of Jerusalem and in the [other] towns in Judah!
Jawohl, der Räucherei, die ihr wie eure Väter, eure Könige und eure Oberen und das Volk des Landes in den Städten Judas und auf den Gassen Jerusalems vollführt habt, - derer gedachte Jahwe und die kam ihm in den Sinn,
22 It was because Yahweh could no longer endure/tolerate your wicked actions and the detestable things that you were doing that he caused your land to be [a place whose name people say when they] curse someone, a land that is ruined and which has no one living in it. And your land is still like that.
und Jahwe vermochte es nicht länger mehr zu ertragen ob der Bosheit eurer Thaten, ob der Greuel, die ihr verübtet. Und so ward euer Land zur Wüstenei und ein Gegenstand des Entsetzens und des Fluchs, ohne Bewohner, wie es heute der Fall ist,
23 It is because you burned incense to [worship/honor] idols and committed [other] sins against Yahweh that you experienced [all] those disasters. It is because you have not obeyed him or his laws and decrees and commandments.”
deswegen weil ihr den Götzen geräuchert und euch an Jahwe versündigt, aber nicht auf das Gebot Jahwes gehört habt, noch nach seinem Gesetz und seinen Satzungen und seinen Zeugnissen gewandelt seid: darum hat euch dieses Unheil betroffen, wie es heute der Fall ist!
24 [Then] I said to all of them, including the women, “All you [people of] Judah who are [here] in Egypt, listen to this message from Yahweh.
Sodann sprach Jeremia zu dem gesamten Volk und zu allen Weibern: Hört das Wort Jahwes, ihr Judäer insgesamt, die ihr in Ägypten weilt!
25 This is what the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], says [to you Israeli men]: ‘You and your wives have said that you would continue to do what you promised, to burn incense and pour out wine to the [goddess whom you call] the Queen of Heaven. [And you have proved by your actions that you intend to continue to do that]. So go ahead and continue doing what you have promised to do [for her].’
So spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Ihr Weiber, - wie ihr mit eurem Munde geredet, so habt ihr es mit euren Händen erfüllt! - da ihr sprecht: “Wir wollen unsere Gelübde, die wir gethan haben, der Himmelskönigin zu räuchern und ihr Trankopfer zu spenden, ausführen!” so macht doch ja eure Gelübde wahr und führt doch ja eure Gelübde aus!
26 But now, all you people from Judah who are [now] living [here] in Egypt, listen to this message from Yahweh. He says, ‘I have solemnly declared, using my great name, that [soon] none of [you] people from Judah who are here in Egypt will ever again use my name. [There will be none of you who, when you solemnly promise to do something, ] will ever again say, “[I will do it as surely] as Yahweh lives.”
Darum hört das Wort Jahwes, ihr Judäer alle, die ihr in Ägypten wohnt: Fürwahr, ich schwöre bei meinem großen Namen, spricht Jahwe: Es wird fernerhin mein Name in ganz Ägypten von keines Judäers Munde mehr genannt werden, daß etwa einer spräche: “So wahr der Herr Jahwe lebt!”
27 Because I will be watching over you, not to cause good things to happen to you but to cause things to happen that will harm you. [Almost] everyone [HYP] from Judah who is [now here] in Egypt will experience being [killed by their enemies’] swords, or dying from famine.
Fürwahr, ich will acht auf sie haben zum Unheil für sie und nicht zum Heil, und es sollen alle Judäer, die in Ägypten weilen, durch das Schwert und durch den Hunger aufgerieben werden bis zu ihrer völligen Vertilgung!
28 [Only a very] few [of you] will not die, and will return to Judah. [When that happens], all those who came to Egypt will find out whose words (were true/were fulfilled), theirs or mine.’
Indes, die dem Schwert Entronnenen sollen aus Ägypten ins Land Juda heimkehren, aber nur wenige an Zahl. Und der gesamte Überrest Judas, die nach Ägypten gezogen sind, um dort als Fremdlinge zu weilen, soll dann erkennen, wessen Wort in Erfüllung geht, - das meinige oder das ihrige!
29 And Yahweh [also] says, ‘I will do something that will prove to you that everything that I have said will happen, and that I will punish you [here] in this place.
Und das soll das Zeichen für euch sein, ist der Spruch Jahwes, daß ich euch an diesem Orte heimsuchen werde, damit ihr erkennt, daß meine Unheilsdrohungen wider euch gewiß in Erfüllung gehen werden:
30 I will cause Hophra, the king of Egypt, to be captured by his enemies who want to kill him, just like I caused King Zedekiah of Judah to be captured by [the soldiers of] King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.’” [And that is what happened several years later].
So spricht Jahwe: Fürwahr, ich will den Pharao Hophra, den König von Ägypten, der Gewalt seiner Feinde und derer, die ihm nach dem Leben trachten, überliefern, so wie ich Zedekia, den König von Juda, der Gewalt Nebukadrezars, des Königs von Babel, der sein Feind war und ihm nach dem Leben trachtete, überliefert habe.
