Jeremiah 41
1 Ishmael was a member of the king’s family. He had been one of King Zedekiah’s important officials. In October of that year, he went to Mizpah with ten other men to [talk with] Gedaliah. While they were eating together,
OR avvenne nel settimo mese, che Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, figliuolo di Elisama, del sangue reale, ed alcuni grandi [della corte] del re, e dieci uomini con lui, vennero a Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahicam, in Mispa; e quivi in Mispa mangiarono insieme.
2 Ishmael and the other ten men jumped up, and with their swords they killed Gedaliah—the man whom the king of Babylon had appointed to be their governor!
Poi Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, si levò, insieme co' dieci uomini ch'erano con lui, e percossero colla spada Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahicam, figliuolo di Safan. Così lo fece morire; lui, che il re di Babilonia aveva costituito sopra il paese.
3 Ishmael [and the other men] also killed all the Jews and the soldiers from Babylonia who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah.
Ismaele uccise ancora gli uomini di guerra, d'infra tutti i Giudei, ch'erano con Ghedalia in Mispa, e i Caldei che si ritrovarono quivi.
4 The next day, before anyone had found out that Gedaliah had been murdered,
E il giorno appresso ch'egli ebbe ucciso Ghedalia, avanti che se ne sapesse nulla,
5 eighty men from Shechem, Shiloh, and Samaria [cities] came to worship at the temple of Yahweh [in Mizpah]. They had shaved off their beards and torn their clothes and cut themselves [to show that they were mourning]. And they had brought grain offerings and incense [to burn on the altar].
avvenne, che alcuni uomini di Sichem, di Silo, e di Samaria, in numero di ottant'uomini, venivano, avendo le barbe rase, ed i vestimenti stracciati, e delle tagliature [sul corpo]; ed aveano in mano offerte, ed incenso, da presentar nella Casa del Signore.
6 Ishmael went out of the city to meet them, crying as he went. When he reached them, he said, “Come [and see what has happened to] Gedaliah!”
Ed Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, uscì di Mispa incontro a loro, e camminava piangendo; e quando li ebbe scontrati, disse loro: Venite a Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahicam.
7 But as soon as they had all entered the town, Ishmael and his men killed [most of] them and threw their corpses into a well.
Ma quando furono entrati in mezzo della città, Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, accompagnato dagli uomini, ch'egli aveva seco, li scannò, [e li gettò] in mezzo della fossa.
8 There were [only] ten of them whom they (spared/did not kill). They were not killed because they promised to Ishmael that [if he allowed them to remain alive, they would bring him] lots of wheat and barley and olive oil and honey that they had hidden.
Or fra quelli si trovarono dieci uomini, che dissero ad Ismaele: Non ucciderci; perciocchè noi abbiamo in sulla campagna delle segrete conserve di grano, e d'orzo, e d'olio, e di miele. Ed egli si ritenne, e non li uccise fra i lor fratelli.
9 The well where Ishmael’s men had thrown the corpses of the men whom they had murdered was the deep well that King Asa’s [men] had dug [in order that they would have water in the city] if the army of King Baasha of Israel would surround the city. Ishmael’s men filled that well with corpses.
Or la fossa, nella quale Ismaele gettò tutti i corpi morti degli uomini, ch'egli uccise del seguito di Ghedalia, [era] quella che il re Asa aveva fatta per tema di Baasa, re d'Israele; Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, la riempiè di uccisi.
10 Then Ishmael [and his men] captured the king’s daughters and some of the other people who had been left in Mizpah by Nebuzaradan in order that Gedaliah would take care of them. Ishmael and his men took those people and started back toward the Ammon area.
Poi appresso Ismaele ne menò via prigione tutto il rimanente del popolo, ch'[era] in Mispa: le figliuole del re, e tutto il popolo restato in Mispa, il quale Nebuzaradan, capitan delle guardie, aveva dato in governo a Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahicam; Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, li menava via prigioni, e se ne andava per passare a' figliuoli di Ammon.
11 But Johanan and all the other leaders of the Israeli soldiers who had not surrendered to the army of Babylonia heard about what Ishmael [and his men] had done.
Ma Giohanan, figliuolo di Carea, e tutti i capi della gente di guerra, ch'[erano] con lui, avendo udito tutto il male, che Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, aveva fatto,
12 So they [immediately] went with all their men to stop them. They caught up with them at the large pool near Gibeon [city].
presero tutta la [lor] gente, e andarono per combattere contro ad Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania; e lo trovarono presso alle grandi acque, che [sono] in Gabaon.
13 When all the people whom Ishmael and his men had captured saw Johanan and the soldiers who were with him, they [shouted] joyfully.
E quando tutto il popolo che [era] con Ismaele vide Giohanan, figliuolo di Carea, e tutti i capi della gente di guerra, che [erano] con lui, si rallegrò.
14 So all those who had been captured in Mizpah escaped, and they started to help Johanan.
E tutto il popolo, che Ismaele menava prigione da Mispa, si rivoltò, e se ne ritornò a Giohanan, figliuolo di Carea.
15 But Ishmael and eight of his men escaped and fled to the Ammon area.
Ma Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, scampò con otto uomini, d'innanzi a Giohanan, e se ne andò a' figliuoli di Ammon.
16 Then Johanan and the men who were with him [gathered together] all the people whom they had rescued at Gibeon. They included soldiers and women and children and some of the king’s palace officials. They were all people whom Ishmael [and his men] had captured after they had killed Gedaliah.
Poi Giohanan, figliuolo di Carea, e tutti i capitani della gente di guerra, ch'[erano] con lui, presero tutto il rimanente del popolo, che avevano riscosso da Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, [e il quale egli ne menava via] da Mispa, dopo aver percosso Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahicam: uomini, gente di guerra, e donne, e fanciulli, ed eunuchi; e li ricondussero da Gabaon.
17 They took them all to Geruth-Kimham [village] near Bethlehem. And they all prepared to go to Egypt.
Ed andarono, e dimorarono in Gherut-Chimham, che [è] vicin di Bet-lehem, con intenzione di andarsene, e di entrare in Egitto, d'innanzi a' Caldei;
18 They were worried about what the soldiers of Babylonia [would do to them when they found out] that Ishmael had killed Gedaliah, who had been appointed by the King of Babylonia to be their governor.
conciossiachè temessero di loro; perciocchè Ismaele, figliuolo di Netania, aveva percosso Ghedalia, figliuolo di Ahicam, il quale il re di Babilonia aveva costituito sopra il paese.
