Jeremiah 37
1 After Jehoiakim died, [his son Jehoiachin became king for only three months, after which] King Josiah’s son Zedekiah became the King of Judah. Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon, appointed him to be the new king.
Karon naghari si Zedekia nga anak nga lalaki ni Josia imbis nga si Jehoyakin nga anak nga lalaki ni Jehoyakim. Gihimong hari ni Nebucadnezar nga hari sa Babylonia si Zedekia sa tibuok yuta sa Juda.
2 But King Zedekiah and his palace officials and the other people in the land paid no attention to the messages that Yahweh gave me.
Apan wala naminaw si Zedekia, ang iyang mga sulugoon, ug ang katawhan sa mga pulong ni Yahweh nga iyang gimantala pinaagi sa kamot ni Jeremias nga propeta.
3 However, [one day] King Zedekiah sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the priest, who was the son of Maaseiah, to me. They requested me to pray to Yahweh our God for our [nation].
Busa gisugo ni Haring Zedekia, si Jehucal nga anak nga lalaki ni Shelemia, ug si Zefania nga anak nga lalaki ni Maasea nga pari sa pagdala ug mensahe ngadto kang Jeremias nga propeta. Miingon sila, “Pag-ampo alang kanamo ngadto kang Yahweh nga atong Dios.”
4 At that time I had not yet been put in prison, so I could come and go wherever and whenever I wanted to, [without being hindered].
Karon gawas sulod si Jeremias diha sa katawhan, tungod kay wala pa man siya mabilanggo.
5 [At that time], the army of [Hophra], the King of Egypt, came [to the southern border of Judah]. When the army of Babylonia heard about that, they stopped surrounding Jerusalem and left there [to fight against the army from Egypt].
Minggula ang kasundalohan sa Faraon gikan sa Ehipto, ug mibiya sa Jerusalem ang mga Caldeanhon nga nagpalibot sa Jerusalem sa dihang nadungog ang balita mahitungod kanila.
6 Then Yahweh gave this message to me:
Unya miabot ang pulong ni Yahweh kang Jeremias nga propeta, nga nag-ingon,
7 “[I], Yahweh, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], say this: ‘The King of Judah has sent [messengers] to you to ask me [what is going to happen]. Tell the king that even though the army of the King of Egypt came to help him, they are about to return to Egypt.
“Si Yahweh, nga Dios sa Israel, miingon niini: Mao kini ang inyong isulti ngadto sa hari sa Juda, tungod kay gipadala ka niya aron sa pagpangayo ug tambag kanako, 'Tan-awa, ang kasundalohan sa Faraon, nga miabot aron sa pagtabang kaninyo, mamalik na sa Ehipto, sa ilang kaugalingon nga yuta.
8 Then the army of Babylonia will return here and capture this city and burn everything in it.’
Mobalik ang mga Caldeanhon. Makig-away sila batok niining siyudara, ilogon, ug sunogon kini.'
9 [So], this is what I say [to you Israelis]: ‘You should not deceive yourselves, thinking that the army from Babylonia has gone and will not return. That is not true.
Miingon si Yahweh niini: Ayaw limbongi ang inyong mga kaugalingon pinaagi sa pag-ingon, 'Sigurado gayod nga mobiya ang mga Caldeanhon kanato,' kay dili gayod sila mobiya.
10 And even if your soldiers could destroy almost all of the soldiers from Babylonia who are attacking you, and allow only a few of them who were wounded to remain alive in their tents, they would come out [of their tents] and burn this city completely!”’”
Bisan pa ug nabuntog ninyo ang tibuok kasundalohan sa mga Caldeanhon nga nakig-away kaninyo ug ang nahibilin sa ilang mga tolda mao lamang ang samaran nga mga kalalakin-an, mamangon sila ug sunogon nila kining siyudara.”
11 When the army from Babylonia left Jerusalem because the army from Egypt was approaching,
Nahitabo kini sa dihang mibiya ang kasundalohan sa mga Caldeanhon sa Jerusalem samtang nagsingabot ang kasundalohan sa Faraon,
12 I started to leave the city. I intended to go to the area [where the descendants of] Benjamin live, in order to take possession of my share of the property from my family.
unya migikan si Jeremias sa Jerusalem padulong sa yuta ni Benjamin. Buot niya nga panag-iyahon ang bahin sa yuta didto taliwala sa katawhan.
13 But as I was walking out the Benjamin Gate, a guard seized me and said, “You are deserting [us and going] to [the soldiers from] Babylonia!” The man who seized me was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah and grandson of Hananiah.
Samtang atua siya sa Ganghaan sa Benjamin, anaa didto ang pangulo sa mga tigbantay. Ang iyang ngalan mao si Irija nga anak nga lalaki ni Shelemia nga anak nga lalaki ni Hanania. Gigunitan niya si Jeremias nga propeta ug miingon, “Ikaw mobiya gayod paingon sa mga Caldeanhon.”
14 But I [protested and] said, “That is not true! I was not intending to do that!” But Irijah would not pay attention to what I said. He took me to the [king’s] officials.
Apan miingon si Jeremias, “Dili kana tinuod. Dili ako mobiya paingon sa mga Caldeanhon.” Apan wala naminaw si Irija kaniya. Gigunitan niya si Jeremias ug gidala ngadto sa mga opisyal. Nasuko ang mga opisyal kang Jeremias.
15 They were very angry with me. They [commanded the guards to] beat me and [then to] put me in the house where Jonathan the king’s secretary stayed. They had changed Jonathan’s house to make it become a prison.
Gikulata nila siya ug gibilanggo, sa balay kaniadto ni Jonathan nga escriba, kay gihimo naman nila kini nga bilanggoan.
16 They put me in a dungeon/cell in that prison, and I remained there for several days.
Busa gibilanggo si Jeremias sa lawak nga anaa sa ilalom sa yuta, diin nagpuyo siya sulod sa daghang mga adlaw.
17 Then King Zedekiah secretly sent a servant to me, who took me to the palace. There the king asked me, “Do you have any messages from Yahweh?” I replied, “Yes, [the message is that] you will be handed over to the king of Babylon.”
Unya nagpadala ug usa ka tawo si Haring Zedekia nga maoy nagdala kaniya sa palasyo. Sa iyang balay, nangutana ang hari kaniya sa tago, “Aduna bay pulong nga gikan kang Yahweh?” Mitubag si Jeremias, “Aduna: Igatugyan ka ngadto sa kamot sa hari sa Babilonia.”
18 Then I asked the king, “What crime have I committed [RHQ] against you or against your officials or against the Israeli people, with the result that you have [commanded that] I be put in a prison?
Unya miingon si Jeremias kang Haring Zedekia, “Unsa man ang akong sala batok kanimo, sa imong mga sulugoon, o niining katawhan nga gibilanggo man ninyo ako?
19 Your prophets predicted that the army of the king of Babylon would not attack you or this land. Why were [RHQ] [their messages] not fulfilled?
Asa man ang imong mga propeta, ang mga tawo nga nanagna alang kanimo ug miingon nga dili gayod moanhi ang hari sa Babilonia batok kanimo o batok niining yutaa?
20 Your majesty, I plead with you to listen to me. Do not send me back to the dungeon/cell in the house of Jonathan your secretary, because [if you do that, ] I will die there.”
Apan karon paminaw, akong agalong hari! Tugoti nga moabot kanimo ang akong mga hangyo. Ayaw ako ibalik sa balay ni Jonathan nga escriba, o kondili mamatay gayod ako didto.”
21 So King Zedekiah commanded that [I not be sent back to the prison cell. Instead, ] I was allowed to be watched by the guards in the courtyard [of the palace]. [The king] also [commanded that they should] bring me a loaf of fresh bread every day, until there was no bread left in the city. So [they put me] in that courtyard and I remained there.
Busa nagmando si Haring Zedekia. Gibutang sa iyang mga sulugoon si Jeremias didto sa hawanan sa tigbantay. Ginahatagan siya ug tipik sa tinapay matag adlaw gikan sa kadalanan sa tighimo ug mga tinapay, hangtod nga nahurot na ang tanang tinapay sa siyudad. Busa nagpabilin si Jeremias sa hawanan sa tigbantay.
