Jeremiah 36
1 When Jehoiakim had been the king of Judah for almost four years, Yahweh gave this message to me:
യോശിയാവിന്റെ മകനും യെഹൂദാരാജാവുമായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിന്റെ നാലാമാണ്ടിൽ യഹോവയിൽനിന്നു യിരെമ്യാവിന് ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി:
2 “Get a scroll, and write on it the messages that I have given to you regarding Israel, Judah, and the other nations. Write all of the messages, starting from the time that I gave you the first message, when Josiah was the king, up until now.
“നീ ഒരു തുകൽച്ചുരുൾ എടുത്ത് യോശിയാവിന്റെ കാലത്തു ഞാൻ നിന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയ കാലംമുതൽ ഇന്നുവരെ ഇസ്രായേലിനെക്കുറിച്ചും യെഹൂദയെക്കുറിച്ചും മറ്റ് എല്ലാ രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും നിന്നോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത സകലവചനങ്ങളും അതിൽ എഴുതുക.
3 When the people of Judah hear [again] about all the disasters that I plan to cause them to experience, perhaps each one of them will repent. If they do that, I will be able to forgive them for the wrong/evil things that they have done.”
ഒരുപക്ഷേ യെഹൂദ്യയിലെ ജനത്തിന്മേൽ ഞാൻ വരുത്താൻപോകുന്ന എല്ലാ അനർഥങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും അവർ കേൾക്കുമ്പോൾ അവരിൽ ഓരോരുത്തരും താന്താങ്ങളുടെ ദുഷ്ടവഴികളിൽനിന്നു പിന്തിരിയാൻ ഇടയാകും; അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ ഞാൻ അവരുടെ ദുഷ്ടതയും പാപവും അവരോടു ക്ഷമിക്കും.”
4 [So] I summoned Baruch, the son of Neraiah. Then, as I dictated to him all the messages that Yahweh had spoken to me, he wrote them on a scroll.
അതനുസരിച്ച് യിരെമ്യാവ് നേര്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ ബാരൂക്കിനെ വിളിച്ചു; യിരെമ്യാവ് പറഞ്ഞുകൊടുത്തതനുസരിച്ച് യഹോവ യിരെമ്യാവിനോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരുന്ന എല്ലാ വചനങ്ങളും ബാരൂക്ക് ഒരു തുകൽച്ചുരുളിൽ എഴുതി.
5 Then I said to him, “I am not allowed to [leave here and] go to the temple.
പിന്നീട് യിരെമ്യാവ് ബാരൂക്കിനോട് ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞു: “ഞാൻ തടവിൽ അടയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; എനിക്ക് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു പോകാൻ കഴിയുകയില്ല.
6 So, you go [to the temple] on the [next] day when the people are (fasting/abstaining from food), and read to them the messages from Yahweh that you wrote while I dictated them to you. Read them [aloud] to all the people [who are there, including] the people of Judah who come [there] from their towns.
അതിനാൽ നീ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു പോയി എന്റെ നിർദേശപ്രകാരം നീ എഴുതിയ വചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം ജനം കേൾക്കെ ഒരു ഉപവാസദിവസത്തിൽ വായിക്കുക. താന്താങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നും വരുന്ന സകല യെഹൂദാജനവും കേൾക്കെ നീ അതു വായിച്ചു കേൾപ്പിക്കണം.
7 Perhaps they will turn from their evil behavior and request Yahweh [to act mercifully toward them]. [They must do that, ] because Yahweh is very angry with them and has threatened to punish them severely.”
ഒരുപക്ഷേ അവർ യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ വീണ് അപേക്ഷിക്കയും ഓരോരുത്തരും തങ്ങളുടെ ദുഷ്ടവഴികൾ വിട്ടു തിരിയുകയും ചെയ്യും; യഹോവ ഈ ജനത്തിനു വിധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കോപവും ക്രോധവും വലുതാണല്ലോ.”
8 Baruch did what I told him to do. He [went to the temple and] read [to the people] all those messages from Yahweh.
നേര്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ ബാരൂക്ക് യിരെമ്യാപ്രവാചകൻ തന്നോടു കൽപ്പിച്ചതുപോലെയെല്ലാം ചെയ്തു. യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിൽവെച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം യഹോവയുടെ എല്ലാ വചനങ്ങളും വായിച്ചുകേൾപ്പിച്ചു.
9 He did it in December on a day when their leaders had proclaimed that all the people in Jerusalem and the people who had come there from [other] towns in Judah should fast to [please/honor] Yahweh. [It was when] Jehoiakim had been king for almost five years.
യെഹൂദാരാജാവും യോശിയാവിന്റെ മകനുമായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിന്റെ അഞ്ചാമാണ്ടിൽ ഒൻപതാംമാസത്തിൽ ജെറുശലേമിലെ എല്ലാ ജനങ്ങൾക്കും യെഹൂദാപട്ടണങ്ങളിൽനിന്ന് ജെറുശലേമിലേക്കു വന്ന എല്ലാവർക്കുമായി യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ ഒരു ഉപവാസം പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
10 Baruch read to all the people the messages [that he had written] on the scroll. [He read them while he was] in the temple, in the room where Gemariah stayed. He was the son of Shaphan, [who had previously been the king’s] secretary. That room was close to the upper courtyard [of the temple], near the entrance to the temple that is [called] the New Gate.
ആ സമയത്ത് ബാരൂക്ക് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലെ പുതിയ കവാടത്തിന്റെ പ്രവേശനസ്ഥലത്ത് മുകൾഭാഗത്തുള്ള അങ്കണത്തിൽ ലേഖകനായ ശാഫാന്റെ മകനായ ഗെമര്യാവിന്റെ മുറിയിൽവെച്ച് യിരെമ്യാവിന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം ആ തുകൽച്ചുരുളിൽനിന്നു സകലജനത്തെയും വായിച്ചുകേൾപ്പിച്ചു.
11 When Micaiah, who was the son of Gemariah and grandson of Shaphan, heard those messages from Yahweh,
ശാഫാന്റെ മകനായ ഗെമര്യാവിന്റെ മകൻ മീഖായാവ് യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം ആ തുകൽച്ചുരുളിൽനിന്ന് വായിച്ചുകേട്ടപ്പോൾ,
12 he went down to the secretary’s room in the palace, where all the king’s officials were meeting. Elishama the [king’s] secretary [was there]. Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Acbor, Gemariah, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the [other] officials [of the king were also there].
അദ്ദേഹം രാജകൊട്ടാരത്തിൽ ലേഖകന്റെ മുറിയിൽ ചെന്നു; അവിടെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു: ലേഖകനായ എലീശാമയും ശെമയ്യാവിന്റെ മകൻ ദെലായാവും അക്ബോരിന്റെ മകൻ എൽനാഥാനും ശാഫാന്റെ മകൻ ഗെമര്യാവും ഹനന്യാവിന്റെ മകൻ സിദെക്കീയാവും മറ്റെല്ലാ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
13 When Micaiah told them about the messages that Baruch had been reading to the people,
ബാരൂക്ക് തുകൽച്ചുരുളിൽനിന്ന് ജനത്തെ വായിച്ചു കേൾപ്പിച്ചപ്പോൾ താൻ കേട്ടിരുന്ന എല്ലാ വചനങ്ങളും മീഖായാവ് അവരോടു പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു.
14 the officials sent Jehudi, who was the son of Nethaniah and grandson of Shelemiah and great-grandson of Cushi, to tell Baruch to come [and read the messages to them, also]. So Baruch took the scroll and went to them.
അപ്പോൾ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെല്ലാവരും കൂശിയുടെ മകനായ ശെലെമ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ നെഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകൻ യെഹൂദിയെ ബാരൂക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്ക് അയച്ച്, “നീ ജനത്തിനു വായിച്ചു കേൾപ്പിച്ച ചുരുൾ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരിക” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അറിയിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ നേര്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ ബാരൂക്ക് തന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന തുകൽച്ചുരുൾ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു.
15 They said to him, “Please sit down and read it [to us].” So Baruch did what they requested.
“അവിടെ ഇരുന്ന് അതു ഞങ്ങളെ വായിച്ചു കേൾപ്പിക്കുക,” എന്ന് അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ബാരൂക്ക് അത് അവരെ വായിച്ചുകേൾപ്പിച്ചു.
16 After they had heard all the messages, they were afraid. They looked at each other and [then] they said, “We must tell these messages to the king!”
അവർ ആ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും കേട്ടപ്പോൾ ഭയപ്പെട്ട് പരസ്പരം നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് ബാരൂക്കിനോട്: “തീർച്ചയായും ഈ വചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം നമുക്കു രാജാവിനെ അറിയിക്കണം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
17 Then they asked Baruch, “How did you get this scroll? Did Jeremiah dictate to you all the messages on this scroll?”
അവർ ബാരൂക്കിനോട്: “താങ്കൾ എങ്ങനെയാണ് ഈ വചനങ്ങൾ ഒക്കെയും എഴുതിയത്? യിരെമ്യാവ് പറഞ്ഞുതന്നതോ? ഞങ്ങളോടു പറയുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
18 Baruch replied, “[Yes], Jeremiah dictated them to me, and I wrote them with ink on this scroll.”
അപ്പോൾ ബാരൂക്ക് അവരോട്: “അതേ, അദ്ദേഹം ഈ വചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം എനിക്കു പറഞ്ഞുതന്നു; ഞാൻ അവ മഷികൊണ്ടു തുകൽച്ചുരുളിൽ എഴുതി” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
19 Then the officials told Baruch, “You and Jeremiah must both hide. Do not tell anyone where you are!”
അപ്പോൾ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ ബാരൂക്കിനോട്: “പോയി താങ്കളും യിരെമ്യാവും ഒളിച്ചുകൊൾക. നിങ്ങൾ എവിടെയാണെന്ന് ആരും അറിയരുത്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
20 They put the scroll in the room of Elishama, the king’s secretary. Then they went to the king, who was in the courtyard, and reported to him everything [that Baruch had read to them].
അങ്ങനെ അവർ തുകൽച്ചുരുൾ ലേഖകനായ എലീശാമയുടെ മുറിയിൽ വെച്ചശേഷം അരമനയിൽ രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്ന് ആ വചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം രാജാവിനെ അറിയിച്ചു.
21 Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll. Jehudi brought it from Elishama’s room and read it to the king, while all the [king’s] officials were standing there.
അതിനുശേഷം രാജാവ് തുകൽച്ചുരുൾ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരാൻ യെഹൂദിയെ അയച്ചു. അയാൾ ലേഖകനായ എലീശാമയുടെ മുറിയിൽനിന്നും അത് എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുവന്നു. യെഹൂദി അത് രാജാവിനെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്ന എല്ലാ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും വായിച്ചുകേൾപ്പിച്ചു.
22 It was in the cold season, and the king was in a part of the palace where he stayed when it was cold. He was sitting in front of a fire [to keep/be warm].
അത് ഒൻപതാംമാസമായിരുന്നു, രാജാവ് തന്റെ ഹേമന്തഗൃഹത്തിൽ തീ കത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന നെരിപ്പോട്ടിനു മുന്നിൽ ഇരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
23 Each time Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, the king cut off that section of the scroll with a knife and threw it into the fire. He did that, section by section, until the entire scroll was burned up.
യെഹൂദി തുകൽച്ചുരുളിന്റെ മൂന്നോ നാലോ ഭാഗം വായിച്ചുതീരുമ്പോൾ, രാജാവ് എഴുത്തുകാരന്റെ പേനാക്കത്തികൊണ്ട് അതു മുറിച്ച് ചുരുൾമുഴുവനും നെരിപ്പോട്ടിലെ തീയിൽ വെന്തുപോകുന്നതുവരെ ഇട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
24 Neither the king nor his officials showed that they were afraid [that God would punish them]. They did not tear their clothes [to show that they were sorry for what they had done].
എങ്കിലും രാജാവും ഈ വചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം കേട്ട ഭൃത്യന്മാരും ഭയപ്പെടുകയോ വസ്ത്രം കീറുകയോ ചെയ്തില്ല.
25 Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah pleaded with the king not to burn the scroll, but he did not pay any attention.
എൽനാഥാനും ദെലായാവും ഗെമര്യാവും തുകൽച്ചുരുൾ ചുട്ടുകളയാതിരിക്കാൻ രാജാവിനോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു, എങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹം അവരുടെ വാക്കു ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചില്ല.
26 Then the king commanded his son Jerahmeel, Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to arrest Baruch and me. But [they were unable to do that because] Yahweh had hidden us.
രാജാവിന്റെ ഒരു പുത്രനായ യെരഹ്മയേലിനോടും അസ്രീയേലിന്റെ മകനായ സെരായാവോടും അബ്ദേലിന്റെ മകനായ ശെലെമ്യാവോടും വേദജ്ഞനായ ബാരൂക്കിനെയും യിരെമ്യാപ്രവാചകനെയും പിടിക്കാൻ കൽപ്പിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ യഹോവ അവരെ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു.
27 After the king had burned the scroll on which were written the messages that I had dictated to Baruch, Yahweh said this to me:
യിരെമ്യാവു പറഞ്ഞുകൊടുത്തിട്ട് ബാരൂക്ക് എഴുതിയിരുന്ന വചനങ്ങളുള്ള തുകൽച്ചുരുൾ രാജാവ് ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞശേഷം യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാട് ഇപ്രകാരം യിരെമ്യാവിനുണ്ടായി:
28 “Get another scroll, and [tell Baruch to] write everything again, the same messages that he had written on the scroll that the king burned.
“നീ മറ്റൊരു തുകൽച്ചുരുൾ എടുത്ത് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീം ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ ആദ്യത്തെ ചുരുളിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന വചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം അതിൽ എഴുതുക.
29 [Then go to] the king and say to him, ‘Yahweh says this: “You burned the scroll [because you did not like] what was written on it, that the king of Babylon would surely [RHQ] come [with his army] and destroy this land and get rid of all the people and the animals.
യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിനെക്കുറിച്ച് നീ ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുക: ‘യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: “ബാബേൽരാജാവു തീർച്ചയായും വന്ന് ഈ ദേശത്തെ നശിപ്പിക്കുകയും മനുഷ്യനെയും മൃഗത്തെയും അതിൽനിന്ന് മുടിച്ചുകളയുകയും ചെയ്യുമെന്ന് നീ അതിൽ എഴുതിയത് എന്തിന്, എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് നീ ആ ചുരുൾ ദഹിപ്പിച്ചല്ലോ.”
30 Now this is what [I], Yahweh, say about [you], Jehoiakim: 'None of your descendants will rule this kingdom [MTY]. Your corpse will be thrown out [on the ground and not be buried]; it will be under the hot [sun] during the days and [struck by] frost during the nights.
അതുകൊണ്ട് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിനെക്കുറിച്ച് യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: ദാവീദിന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തിലിരിക്കാൻ അവന് ആരും ഉണ്ടാകുകയില്ല; അവന്റെ ശവശരീരം പകലത്തെ വെയിലും രാത്രിയിലെ മഞ്ഞും ഏൽക്കാൻ എറിഞ്ഞുകളയും.
31 I will punish you and your family and your officials for their sins. And I will cause the people of Jerusalem and the people of the [other] towns in Judah to experience all the disasters that I promised, because you all would not pay attention [to what I said]!'” '”
ഈ അകൃത്യത്തിന് ഞാൻ അവനെയും അവന്റെ സന്തതികളെയും അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരെയും ശിക്ഷിക്കും; അവരുടെമേലും ജെറുശലേംനിവാസികളുടെമേലും യെഹൂദാജനത്തിന്റെമേലും ഞാൻ അവർക്കു വരുത്തുമെന്ന് പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച അനർഥമൊക്കെയും വരുത്തും; അവർ എന്റെ മുന്നറിയിപ്പുകൾ ഒന്നുംതന്നെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചില്ലല്ലോ.’”
32 So I took another scroll, and again I dictated the messages to Baruch. He wrote everything that had been written on the [other] scroll, the one that King Jehoiakim had burned in the fire. [But this time, I] added more messages.
അതിനുശേഷം യിരെമ്യാവ് മറ്റൊരു തുകൽച്ചുരുൾ എടുത്ത് നേര്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ ബാരൂക്ക് എന്ന വേദജ്ഞന്റെ കൈയിൽ കൊടുത്തു. യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീം തീയിലിട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ പുസ്തകത്തിലെ വചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം യിരെമ്യാവു പറഞ്ഞുകൊടുത്തപ്രകാരം അദ്ദേഹം അതിൽ എഴുതി. അതുപോലെയുള്ള അനേകം വചനങ്ങളും അവയോടൊപ്പം എഴുതിച്ചേർത്തു.
