Isaiah 5
1 [Now] I will sing a song about my dear friend, and about his vineyard. The vineyard was on a very fertile hillside.
Je chanterai pour mon bien-aimé le cantique que mon bien-aimé chante à ma vigne. Mon bien-aimé avait une vigne, sur une éminence, en un lieu fertile.
2 My friend plowed the ground and cleared away the stones. Then he planted very good grapevines on that ground. In the middle of the vineyard, he built a watchtower, and he dug a (winepress/pit for squeezing the grapes). Then he waited [each year] to harvest some good grapes, but the vines produced [only] sour grapes.
Et je l'ai entourée d'une haie, et je l'ai palissadée, et je l'ai plantée du plant de Sorec; et au milieu j'ai bâti une tour, où j'ai creusé un cellier; et j'ai compté qu'elle me donnerait du raisin, mais elle a produit des épines.
3 Now [this is what Yahweh says]: “You people of Jerusalem and [other places in] Judah, I [am like the friend, and you are like] my vineyard; [so] you judge which of us [has done what is right].
Et maintenant, vous, habitants de Jérusalem, et toi, homme de Juda, jugez entre moi et ma vigne.
4 What more could I have done for you than what I have already done? I expected you to be doing good deeds [MET], so it is disgusting that [RHQ] you were [doing only evil things] like the vineyard that produced only sour grapes!
Que ferai-je encore pour ma vigne que je n'aie point déjà fait? J'avais compté qu'elle me donnerait du raisin, mais elle a produit des épines.
5 [So], I will now tell you what I will do to [Judah, the place that is like] my vineyard. I will cut down the hedges, and they will be destroyed. I will tear down the walls [of the cities] and allow [wild animals] to trample the land.
Or je vais maintenant vous déclarer ce que je ferai ' à ma vigne. Je lui arracherai sa baie, et elle sera mise au pillage; j'abattrai son mur, et elle sera foulée aux pieds.
6 I will cause it to become a wasteland where the vines are not pruned and the ground is not hoed. It will be a place where briers and thorns [DOU] grow. And I will command that no rain will fall on it.”
Et j'abandonnerai ma vigne, et elle ne sera plus ni taillée ni bêchée; et sur elle s'élèveront des épines comme sur une terre aride, et j'ordonnerai aux nuées de ne jamais l'arroser de pluie.
7 The nation of Israel is [like] [MET] the vineyard of the Commander of the armies of angels. The people of Judah are [like] the garden that was pleasing to him. He expected you to be doing what is just/fair, but instead, [what he saw was people] murdering [MTY] others. [He expected that you would be doing] righteous deeds, but instead, he heard cries from people who were being [attacked] violently.
Or la vigne du Seigneur Dieu des armées, c'est la maison d'Israël, et l'homme de Juda est mon nouveau plant bien-aimé. J'ai compté qu'il ferait la justice, et il a fait l'iniquité; et ce n'est pas la voix de l'équité, mais des cris que j'y entends.
8 Terrible things will happen to you who continually [illegally] acquire houses and fields. You force one family after another to leave their homes until you are the only ones [HYP] [still] living in the land.
Malheur à ceux qui joignent maison à maison, qui rapprochent leur champ d'un autre champ, afin de prendre quelque chose au voisin! est-ce que vous habiterez seuls la terre?
9 [But] I heard the Commander of the armies of angels solemnly declare this: “[Some day], many of those huge houses will be empty/deserted; no one will be living in those beautiful mansions.
Ces choses sont venues aux oreilles du Seigneur Dieu des armées. Si nombreuses que soient vos maisons, elles seront désertes; quoique grandes et belles, ceux qui les habitent ne seront plus.
10 The vines on ten acres of land will not produce enough grapes to make (six gallons/22 liters) [of juice/wine], and ten baskets of seed will produce only one basket [of grain].”
Où labourent dix paires de bœufs, on ne récoltera qu'une mesure; et celui qui sème six artabes, n'en retirera que trois mesures.
11 Terrible things will happen to those who get up early [each] morning to begin drinking alcoholic drinks, and who stay awake until late at night [drinking a lot of wine] until they are completely drunk.
Malheur à ceux qui se lèvent le matin pour boire, et qui boivent jusqu'au soir! car le vin les brûlera.
12 They have [big parties and provide lots of] wine. At their parties, there are [people playing] harps and lyres and tambourines and flutes, but they never think about what Yahweh does or appreciate what he has created.
Au son des cithares, des harpes, des tambours et des flûtes, ils boivent du vin; mais les œuvres du Seigneur, ils ne les considèrent pas; les œuvres de ses mains, ils n'y font pas attention.
13 So, my people will be (exiled/taken to other countries) [far away] because they do not know [about me]. Those who are [now very important and] honored will starve, and the other people will die from thirst.
Aussi mon peuple est-il devenu captif, parce qu'il n'a pas connu le Seigneur; et la faim et la soif en ont fait périr une multitude.
14 [It is as though] [PRS] the place where the dead people are is eagerly looking for more Israeli people, opening its mouth to swallow them, and a huge number of people will be thrown into that place, including their leaders as well as a noisy crowd of people who enjoy living in Jerusalem. (Sheol h7585)
Et l'enfer s'en est dilaté l'âme, et il a ouvert sa bouche pour n'en point laisser échapper; et les grands, et les riches, et les hommes en honneur, et les hommes de pestilence, y descendront. (Sheol h7585)
15 [Yahweh] will get rid of a huge number of people; and he will humble [many more] people who [now] are proud/arrogant.
Et l'homme sera humilié, et le guerrier méprisé, et les yeux hautains se baisseront.
16 But the Commander of the armies of angels will be exalted/praised because of his acting justly. God will show that he is holy by doing righteous/just deeds.
Et le Seigneur sera exalté dans son jugement, et le Dieu saint sera glorifié dans sa justice.
17 Then lambs and fat sheep will [be able to] find good grass to eat, [even] among the ruins [of the houses of rich people].
Et ceux qu'on aura pillés brouteront en paix comme des taureaux, et les agneaux iront paître dans les champs déserts de ceux qu'on aura emmenés.
18 Some people constantly tell lies, and [it is as though] they are dragging behind them the wrong things that they have done. Terrible things will happen to them!
Malheur à ceux qui traînent leurs péchés comme avec un long câble, et leurs iniquités comme avec la courroie du joug d'une génisse,
19 They [make fun of God and] say [to him, ] “Go ahead, do something [to punish us]! We want to see what you will do. You, the Holy One of Israel, should do what you are planning to do, because we want to know what it is.”
Et qui disent: Que bientôt advienne ce qu'il doit faire, afin que nous le voyions; que s'accomplisse la volonté du saint d'Israël, afin que nous la connaissions!
20 Terrible things will happen to those who say that evil is good, and that good is evil, that darkness is light and that light is darkness, that what is bitter is sweet and what is sweet is bitter.
Malheur à ceux qui appellent mal le bien, et bien le mal; qui donnent aux ténèbres le nom de lumière, et à la lumière le nom de ténèbres; qui tiennent pour amer le doux et pour doux l'amer!
21 Terrible things will happen to those who think that they are wise and that they (are very clever/know everything).
Malheur à ceux qui sont sages à leur sens et savants à leurs yeux!
22 Terrible things will happen to those who [think that] [IRO] they are great/heroes because they are able to drink [lots of] wine, and boast about being able to mix good alcoholic drinks.
Malheur à vos puissants qui boivent le vin, et à vos riches qui se préparent une boisson fermentée;
23 If people offer them bribes in order that they will enable wicked people not to be punished, they accept those bribes, and they cause people who are innocent to be punished.
A ceux qui justifient l'impie à prix d'argent, et qui ne rendent pas justice au juste!
24 Therefore, just like [SIM] fires burn up stubble and dry grass shrivels up and quickly burns in flames, [it will be as though] those people have roots that will rot and have flowers that will wither. [That will happen] because they rejected the laws of the Commander of the armies of angels; they have despised the messages of the Holy One of Israel.
A cause de cela, comme le chaume est mis en feu par un charbon embrasé, et consumé par une flamme légère, ainsi leur racine sera réduite en cendres, et leur fleur s'envolera en poussière; car ils n'ont pas voulu de la loi du Seigneur des armées, mais ils ont irrité la parole du Saint d'Israël.
25 That is why Yahweh is [extremely] angry [with his people]; [it is as though] his hand is raised [and he is ready to smash them]. [When he does that], the mountains will shake, and the corpses of people will be scattered in the streets like [SIM] manure. But even when that happens, Yahweh will still be very angry; he will be ready to punish his people [MET] again.
Et le Seigneur des armées a été transporté de colère contre son peuple, et il a étendu sa main sur eux, et il les a frappés. Et les montagnes ont frémi, et les cadavres des hommes ont, comme de la boue, couvert les chemins. Et au milieu de ces fléaux, sa fureur ne s'est point détournée, et sa main est encore levée.
26 Yahweh will send a signal to summon [armies of] nations far away; [it is as though] he will whistle [to summon those soldiers who are] in very remote places on the earth. They will come very swiftly [DOU] [to Jerusalem].
C'est pourquoi il fera signe aux nations lointaines, et il sifflera pour les appeler des extrémités de la terre, et voilà qu'elles accourent au plus vite.
27 They will not get tired or stumble. They will not [stop to] rest or to sleep. None of their belts will be loose, and none of them will have sandals with broken straps, [so they will all be ready to fight in battles].
Elles ne sentiront ni la faim ni la fatigue; elles ne reposeront point la nuit; elles ne dormiront point; elles ne dénoueront pas la ceinture de leurs reins, et les cordons de leurs sandales ne seront point déliés.
28 Their arrows will be sharp, and their bows will be ready [to shoot those arrows in a battle]. [Because their horses pull the chariots fast], sparks will shoot out from their hooves, and the wheels of the chariots will spin like a whirlwind.
Leurs traits sont acérés, leurs arcs tendus; les pieds de leurs chevaux sont fermes comme le roc, les roues de leurs chars sont comme un tourbillon.
29 They will roar like [very strong] lions [DOU] that growl and [then] pounce on the animals they want to kill and carry them off, and no one is able to rescue them.
Elles frémissent comme des lions; elles s'élancent comme des lionceaux. Ce peuple pillera, rugira comme une bête fauve, et il renversera tout, et nul ne pourra lui ravir sa proie.
30 [Similarly, your enemies] will roar when they see the people they are about to kill, like [SIM] the sea roars. [On that day], if someone looks across the land, he will see [only people who are in] darkness and distressed; [it will be as though] even the sunlight is hidden by dark clouds.
Et en ce jour il criera contre Israël, comme la voix d'une mer agitée; et ils tourneront leurs yeux vers la terre, et dans leur détresse ils n'y verront que d'affreuses ténèbres.
