< Genesis 5 >

1 Here is a list of the descendants of Adam. When God created humans, he caused them to be like him in many ways.
This [is] an account of the generations of Adam. In the day of God’s creating man, in the likeness of God He has made him;
2 He created one man and one woman. He blessed them, and on the day that he created them, he called them ‘human beings’.
a male and a female He has created them, and He blesses them, and calls their name Man, in the day of their being created.
3 When Adam was 130 years old, he became the father of a son who [grew up to] be just like him. That was the son he named Seth.
And Adam lives one hundred and thirty years [[or two hundred and thirty years]], and begets [a son] in his likeness, according to his image, and calls his name Seth.
4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 more years, and during those years he became the father of other sons and daughters.
And the days of Adam after his begetting Seth are eight hundred years [[or seven hundred years]], and he begets sons and daughters.
5 Adam lived 930 years altogether, and then he died.
And all the days of Adam which he lived are nine hundred and thirty years, and he dies.
6 When Seth was 105 years old, he became the father of Enosh.
And Seth lives one hundred and five years [[or two hundred and five years]], and begets Enos.
7 After Enosh was born, Seth lived 807 more years, and became the father of other sons and daughters.
And Seth lives after his begetting Enos eight hundred and seven years [[or seven hundred and seven years]], and begets sons and daughters.
8 Seth lived 912 years altogether, and then he died.
And all the days of Seth are nine hundred and twelve years, and he dies.
9 When Enosh was 90 years old, he became the father of Kenan.
And Enos lives ninety years [[or one hundred and ninety years]], and begets Cainan.
10 After Kenan was born, Enosh lived 815 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
And Enos lives after his begetting Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years [[or seven hundred and fifteen years]], and begets sons and daughters.
11 Enosh lived 905 years altogether, and then he died.
And all the days of Enos are nine hundred and five years, and he dies.
12 When Kenan was 70 years old, he became the father of Mahalalel.
And Cainan lives seventy years [[or one hundred and seventy years]], and begets Mahalaleel.
13 After Mahalalel was born, Kenan lived 840 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
And Cainan lives after his begetting Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years [[or seven hundred and forty years]], and begets sons and daughters.
14 Kenan lived 910 years altogether, and then he died.
And all the days of Cainan are nine hundred and ten years, and he dies.
15 When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he became the father of Jared.
And Mahalaleel lives sixty-five years [[or one hundred and sixty-five years]], and begets Jared.
16 After Jared was born, Mahalalel lived 830 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
And Mahalaleel lives after his begetting Jared eight hundred and thirty years [[or seven hundred and thirty years]], and begets sons and daughters.
17 Mahalalel lived 895 years altogether, and then he died.
And all the days of Mahalaleel are eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he dies.
18 When Jared was 162 years old, he became the father of Enoch.
And Jared lives one hundred and sixty-two years, and begets Enoch.
19 Jared lived 800 years after Enoch was born, and he became the father of other sons and daughters.
And Jared lives after his begetting Enoch eight hundred years, and begets sons and daughters.
20 Jared lived 962 years altogether, and then he died.
And all the days of Jared are nine hundred and sixty-two years, and he dies.
21 When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah.
And Enoch lives sixty-five years [[or one hundred and sixty-five years]], and begets Methuselah.
22 Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for 300 years after Methuselah was born, and he became the father of other sons and daughters.
And Enoch habitually walks with God after his begetting Methuselah three hundred years [[or two hundred years]], and begets sons and daughters.
23 Enoch lived 365 years altogether in close fellowship with God.
And all the days of Enoch are three hundred and sixty-five years.
24 Then one day he disappeared, because God took him away [to be with him in heaven].
And Enoch habitually walks with God, and he is not, for God has taken him.
25 When Methuselah was 187 years old, he became the father of Lamech.
And Methuselah lives one hundred and eighty-seven years, and begets Lamech.
26 Methuselah lived 782 years after Lamech was born, and became the father of other sons and daughters.
And Methuselah lives after his begetting Lamech seven hundred and eighty-two years, and begets sons and daughters.
27 Methuselah lived 969 years altogether, and then he died.
And all the days of Methuselah are nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he dies.
28 When Lamech was 182 years old, he became the father of a son,
And Lamech lives one hundred and eighty-two years [[or one hundred and eighty-eight years]], and begets a son,
29 whom he named Noah, [which sounds like the Hebrew word that means ‘relief’], because he said, “He will bring us relief from all the hard work we have been doing to produce food from the ground that Yahweh cursed.”
and calls his name Noah, saying, “This [one] comforts us concerning our work, and concerning the labor of our hands, because of the ground which YHWH has cursed.”
30 Lamech lived 595 years after Noah was born and became the father of other sons and daughters.
And Lamech lives after his begetting Noah five hundred and ninety-five years [[or five hundred and sixty-five years]], and begets sons and daughters.
31 Lamech lived 777 years altogether, and then he died.
And all the days of Lamech are seven hundred and seventy-seven years [[or seven hundred and fifty-three years]], and he dies.
32 When Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of a son whom he named Shem. Later he became the father of another son whom he named Ham, and later he became the father of another son whom he named Japheth.
And Noah is a son of five hundred years, and Noah begets Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
