Genesis 13
1 So Abram and Sarai left Egypt, and they took along all his possessions, and Lot went with them to the Negev [Desert].
Abram revint donc de l'Égypte avec sa femme, et tout ce qui lui appartenait; et Lot était avec lui dans le désert.
2 Abram was very rich. He owned a lot of livestock, silver and gold.
Abram était fort riche en bestiaux, en argent et en or.
3 They continued traveling from place to place from the Negev [Desert] toward Bethel [town] to the place between Bethel and Ai where they had previously set up their tents,
Il revint au lieu d'où il était venu, dans le désert, vers Béthel, là où ses tentes avaient d'abord été, entre Béthel et Angdi,
4 and where Abram had made a stone altar and worshiped Yahweh.
Au lieu même de l'autel qu'il y avait érigé au commencement, et il y invoqua le nom du Seigneur.
5 Lot, who was traveling with Abram, also had flocks of sheep and goats and herds of cattle, and tents.
Lot, qui accompagnait Abram, avait aussi des brebis, et des bœufs, et des tentes.
6 But they had so many animals that they could not all stay in the same area. There was not enough land to provide water and food for all their animals.
Or, cette terre ne pouvait suffire à leur commun séjour, car leurs richesses étaient nombreuses; cette terre ne pouvait donc suffire à leur séjour commun.
7 Furthermore, the descendants of Canaan and Perizzi were also living in that area, and the land really belonged to them. And the men who took care of Abram’s animals started quarreling with the men who took care of Lot’s animals.
Aussi une rixe survint-elle entre les pâtres des troupeaux d'Abram et les pâtres des troupeaux de Lot. Or, les Chananéens et les Phéréséens habitaient alors cette terre.
8 So Abram said to Lot, “Since we are close relatives, it is not good for us two to quarrel, or for the men who take care of your animals to quarrel with the men who take care of my animals.
Abram dit à Lot: Qu'il n'y ait point de rixe entre moi et toi, entre mes pâtres et tes pâtres, car nous sommes frères.
9 There is plenty of land for both of us. So we should separate. You can choose whatever part you want [RHQ]. If you want the area over there, I will stay here. If you want the area here, I will go over there.”
N'as-tu pas là devant toi toute la terre? Sépare-toi de moi; si tu vas à gauche, j'irai à droite; si tu vas à droite, j'irai à gauche.
10 Lot looked around toward Zoar [town], and saw that there was plenty of water all over the plain near the Jordan [River]. It was like the park/garden in Eden, and like the land in Egypt. [That was before Yahweh destroyed [the cities of] Sodom and Gomorrah which were on that plain.]
Et Lot, ayant levé les yeux, vit toute la rive du Jourdain tout arrosée, comme elle était avant que Dieu eût bouleversé Sodome et Gomorrhe, semblable au paradis de Dieu, ou à la terre d'Égypte, jusqu'aux confins de Zogora.
11 So Lot chose the land in the plain of the Jordan [River]. He left his uncle, Abram, and moved east.
Lot choisit pour lui toute la rive du Jourdain, et il partit, s'éloignant de l'orient; chacun d'eux se sépara de son frère.
12 Abram stayed in the Canaan area, and Lot started to live near the cities in the plain of the Jordan [River], and he set up his tents near Sodom [city].
Abram demeura en la terre de Chanaan, et Lot habita la ville des riverains, et il dressa ses tentes à Sodome.
13 [You need to know that] people who lived there were extremely wicked.
Or, les hommes de Sodome étaient très méchants et grands pécheurs devant Dieu.
14 After Abram and Lot separated, Yahweh said to Abram, “Look around at this whole area where you are. Look north and south, look east and west.
Après que Lot se fut séparé d'Abram, Dieu dit à celui-ci: Regarde de tes yeux, et vois, du lieu où tu es le nord et le midi, l'orient et l'occident,
15 I will give to you and your descendants all the land that you see; I will give it to you forever.
Parce que la terre que tu vois, je te la donnerai pour toi et ta race à toujours.
16 I will cause your descendants to be as numerous as particles of dust! [It will be easier] to count the particles of dust than it will be to count your descendants [HYP].
Je multiplierai ta race comme le sable de la terre; si quelqu'un peut compter le sable de la terre, il pourra aussi compter ta postérité.
17 Walk through the land in every direction, because I am going to give it all to you.”
Pars, traverse cette contrée dans sa longueur et dans sa largeur, parce que je la donnerai à toi et à ta race pour toujours.
18 So Abram [and his men] took down their tents and moved to Hebron and started to live by the huge trees [at the town] Mamre. He placed a stone altar there to [make sacrifices to] Yahweh.
Et, ayant levé ses tentes, Abram vint demeurer vers le chêne de Membré qui était en Hébron; et il bâtit en ce lieu un autel au Seigneur.
