Genesis 11
1 At first, all the people in [MTY] the world spoke the same language [DOU].
Die ganze Erde aber hatte eine Sprache und einerlei Worte.
2 As people moved further east, they arrived at a plain in Babylonia region and began to live there.
Als sie von Osten herzogen, fanden sie im Lande Sinear eine Ebene und ließen sich darin nieder.
3 Then they said to each other, “(Hey/Come on), let’s form bricks and bake them to make them hard, for building!” So they used bricks instead of stones, and used tar instead of (mortar/a mixture of cement, sand and lime) to hold them together.
Und sie sprachen zueinander: "Auf! Laßt uns Luftziegel streichen und Backsteine brennen!" Und der Ziegel diente ihnen als Baustein; das Erdpech aber hatte ihnen als Mörtel gedient.
4 They said, “Hey, let’s build a city for ourselves! We also ought to build a very high tower that reaches up to the sky! In that way we will become famous! If we do not do this, we will be scattered all over the earth!”
Sie sprachen: "Auf! Bauen wir uns eine Stadt und einen Turm mit einer Spitze bis zum Himmel, und machen wir uns eine Wohnstatt, daß wir uns nicht über die ganze Erde zerstreuen!"
5 So they began to build the city and the tower. Then Yahweh looked down and saw the city and the tower that those [puny] men were building.
Der Herr aber stieg herab, die Stadt und den Turm zu beschauen, den die Menschenkinder gebaut.
6 Yahweh said, “These people are one group that all speak the same language. If they have begun to do this now, then (there is nothing that they will decide to do that will be impossible for them/they will be able to do whatever they decide to do) [LIT]!
Da sprach der Herr: "Fürwahr! Ein Volk sind sie und haben alle dieselbe Sprache, und dies ist nur der Anfang ihres Tuns, und fortan wäre ihnen nichts verwehrt, was immer sie nur planen.
7 So, okay/now, we will go down there and cause there to be many different languages, so that they will not be able to understand each other.”
Auf nun! Wir wollen jetzt hinab und ihre Sprache mischen, daß keiner je des anderen Sprache mehr verstehe."
8 So Yahweh did that. As a result, the people stopped building the city, and Yahweh caused them to disperse all over the earth.
So zerstreute sie der Herr von dort über die ganze Erde, und sie mußten es lassen, die Stadt auszubauen.
9 The city was called Babel which means ‘confusion’, because there Yahweh caused the people to become confused because the people [MTY] spoke [different languages that the others could not understand], not just one language. From there Yahweh caused them to disperse all over the earth.
Darum nennt man sie Babel; denn dort hat der Herr die Sprache der ganzen Erde gemischt, und von dort hat der Herr sie über die ganze Erde zerstreut.
10 (This is a bigger list/I will now tell you more) of the descendants of Shem: Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arpachshad.
Dies ist die Geschlechterfolge Sems: Als Sem 100 Jahre alt war, zeugte er Arpaksad, zwei Jahre nach der Flut.
11 After Arpachshad was born, Shem lived 500 more years and had more sons and daughters.
Und Sem lebte nach Arpaksads Zeugung 500 Jahre und zeugte noch Söhne und Töchter.
12 When Arphachshad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah.
Und Arpaksad war 35 Jahre alt; da zeugte er Selach.
13 After Shelah was born, Arpachshad lived 403 more years and became the father of more sons and daughters.
Und Arpaksad lebte nach Selachs Zeugung 403 Jahre und zeugte noch Söhne und Töchter.
14 When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber.
Und Selach war 30 Jahre alt; da zeugte er Eber.
15 After Eber was born, Shelah lived 403 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
Und Selach lebte nach Ebers Zeugung 403 Jahre und zeugte noch Söhne und Töchter.
16 When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg.
Und Eber war 34 Jahre alt, da zeugte er Peleg.
17 After Peleg was born, Eber lived 430 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
Und Eber lebte nach Pelegs Zeugung 430 Jahre und zeugte noch Söhne und Töchter.
18 When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu.
Und Peleg war 30 Jahre alt; da zeugte er Rëu.
19 After Reu was born, Peleg lived 209 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
Und Peleg lebte nach Rëus Zeugung 209 Jahre und zeugte noch Söhne und Töchter.
20 When Reu was 32 years old, he became the father of Serug.
Und Rëu war 32 Jahre alt; da zeugte er Serug.
21 After Serug was born, Reu lived 207 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
Und Rëu lebte nach Serugs Zeugung 207 Jahre und zeugte noch Söhne und Töchter.
22 When Serug was 30 years old, he became the father of Nahor.
Und Serug war 30 Jahre alt; da zeugte er Nachor.
23 After Nahor was born, Serug lived 200 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
Und Serug lebte nach Nachors Zeugung 200 Jahre und zeugte noch Söhne und Töchter.
24 When Nahor was 29 years old, he became the father of Terah.
Und Nachor war 29 Jahre alt; da zeugte er Terach.
25 After Terah was born, Nahor lived 119 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
Und Nachor lebte nach Terachs Zeugung 119 Jahre und zeugte noch Söhne und Töchter.
26 When Terah was 70 years old, his son Abram was born. Later, two other sons, Nahor and Haran were born.
Und Terach war 70 Jahre alt; da zeugte er Abram, Nachor und Haran.
27 (This is/I will now give) a list of the descendants of Terah: Terah’s sons were Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran’s son was named Lot.
Dies ist die Geschlechterfolge Terachs: Terach zeugte Abram, Nachor und Haran, und Haran zeugte Lot.
28 Haran died before his father died. He died in Ur [city] in Chaldea land, where he was born.
Es starb aber Haran zu Lebzeiten seines Vaters Terach, in seinem Geburtslande zu Ur Kasdim.
29 Abram and Nahor both married. Abram’s wife was named Sarai, and Nahor’s wife was named Milcah. Milcah and her younger sister Iscah were the daughters of Haran.
Abram und Nachor nahmen sich dann Weiber; Abrams Weib hieß Sarai und Nachors Weib Milka, die Tochter Harans, des Vaters von Milka und Iska.
30 Sarai was unable to bear any children.
Sarai aber war unfruchtbar; sie hatte nie ein Kind geboren.
31 Terah decided to leave Ur and go to live in Canaan land. So he took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and Abram’s wife Sarai with him. But instead of going to Canaan, they stopped at Haran [town] and lived there.
Und Terach nahm seinen Sohn Abram und seinen Enkel Lot, den Sohn Harans, und seine Schwiegertochter Sarai, das Weib seines Sohnes Abram, und sie zogen mit ihm aus Ur Kasdim, ins Land Kanaan zu wandern. So kamen sie bis Charan; hier aber ließen sie sich nieder.
32 When Terah was 205 years old, he died there in Haran.
Die Tage Terachs beliefen sich auf 205 Jahre; dann starb Terach zu Charan.
