Ezra 8
1 This is a list of the names of the leaders of the clans who came with me up [to Jerusalem] from Babylonia when Artaxerxes was the king [of Persia]:

4 Eliehoenai the son of Zerahiah and 200 other men from the clan descended from Pahath-Moab
੪ਪਹਥ-ਮੋਆਬ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਜ਼ਰਹਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਲਯਹੋਏਨਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੋ ਸੌ ਪੁਰਖ।
5 Shecaniah the son of Jahaziel and 300 other men from the clan descended from Zattu
੫ਸ਼ਕਨਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਯਹਜ਼ੀਏਲ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤਿੰਨ ਸੌ ਪੁਰਖ।
6 Ebed the son of Jonathan and 50 other men from the clan descended from Adin
੬ਆਦੀਨ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਯੋਨਾਥਾਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਬਦ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਹ ਪੁਰਖ।
7 Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah and 70 other men from the clan descended from Elam
੭ਏਲਾਮ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਅਥਲਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯਿਸ਼ਅਯਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਤਰ ਪੁਰਖ।
8 Zebadiah the son of Michael and 80 other men from the clan descended from Shephatiah
੮ਸ਼ਫਟਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮੀਕਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜ਼ਬਦਯਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਅੱਸੀ ਪੁਰਖ।
9 Obadiah the son of Jehiel and 218 other men from the clan descended from Joab
੯ਯੋਆਬ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਯਹੀਏਲ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਓਬਦਯਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੋ ਸੌ ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਪੁਰਖ।
10 Shelomith the son of Josiphiah and 160 other men from the clan descended from Bani
੧੦ਸ਼ਲੋਮੀਥ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਯਸਿਫਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਸੌ ਸੱਠ ਪੁਰਖ।
11 Zechariah the son of Bebai and 28 other men from the clan descended from [another man whose name was] Bebai
੧੧ਬੇਬਾਈ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਬੇਬਾਈ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਠਾਈ ਪੁਰਖ।
12 Johanan the son of Hakkatan and 110 other men from the clan descended from Azgad
੧੨ਅਜ਼ਗਾਦ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹੱਕਾਟਾਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੋਹਾਨਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਸੌ ਦਸ ਪੁਰਖ।
13 Also Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah, who returned [here] later with 60 men from the clan descended from Adonikam
੧੩ਅਦੋਨੀਕਾਮ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਖਰੀ ਸਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਇਹ ਹਨ - ਅਲੀਫ਼ਾਲਟ ਤੇ ਯਈਏਲ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਮਅਯਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਠ ਪੁਰਖ।
14 And Uthai and Zaccur and 70 other men from the clan descended from Bigvai.
੧੪ਬਿਗਵਈ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਊਥਈ ਤੇ ਜ਼ੱਕੂਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਤਰ ਪੁਰਖ।
15 I gathered all of them together at the canal that goes [from Babylon] to Ahava [town]. We set up our tents there and stayed there for three days. [During that time] I checked the lists of names and found out that there were priests [going with us], but no [other] descendants of Levi [who could help them in the temple].

16 So I summoned Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, two men whose names were Elnathan, and Jarib, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, who were all leaders [of the people]. I also summoned Joiarib and another Elnathan, who were wise.
੧੬ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਅਲੀਅਜ਼ਰ, ਅਰੀਏਲ, ਸ਼ਮਅਯਾਹ, ਅਲਨਾਥਾਨ, ਯਾਰੀਬ, ਅਲਨਾਥਾਨ, ਨਾਥਾਨ, ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ, ਮਸ਼ੁੱਲਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਆਗੂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਯਾਰੀਬ ਤੇ ਅਲਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਨ ਸੱਦਾ ਭੇਜਿਆ।
17 I sent them all to Iddo, the leader of the descendants of Levi, who was living in Casiphia [town], to request that he and his relatives and other men who had worked in the temple send to us some men who would [go/come with us to] work in God’s new temple [in Jerusalem].
੧੭ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਦੋ ਕੋਲ ਜੋ ਕਾਸਿਫ਼ਯਾ ਨਾਮਕ ਸਥਾਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਸੀ, ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਦੋ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਰਾ ਨਥੀਨੀਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਸਿਫ਼ਯਾ ਨਾਮਕ ਸਥਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਸੀ, ਸਮਝਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਭਵਨ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਆਉਣ।
18 Because God was kind to us, they brought to us a man named Sherebiah and 18 of his sons and other relatives. Sherebiah was a very wise man, a descendant of Mahli, [who was a grandson] of Levi.

19 They also sent to us Hashabiah, along with Jeshaiah, descendants of [Levi’s son] Merari, and 20 of their relatives.
੧੯ਅਤੇ ਹਸ਼ਬਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਰਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਯਿਸ਼ਅਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੁੱਲ ਵੀਹ ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ
20 They also sent 220 other men to work in the temple. Those men’s ancestors had been appointed by King David to assist the descendants of Levi [who helped the priests in the temple]. I listed/wrote the names of all those men.
੨੦ਅਤੇ ਨਥੀਨੀਮੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਊਦ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਲੇਵੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਦੋ ਸੌ ਵੀਹ ਨਥੀਨੀਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਆਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਖੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ।
21 There alongside the Ahava Canal, I told them that we all would (fast/abstain from eating food) and pray. I also told them that we should humble ourselves in the presence of our God. We prayed that God would protect us while we traveled, and also protect our children and our possessions/belongings.
੨੧ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਅਹਵਾ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਤੇ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਘੋਸ਼ਣਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹਲੀਮ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਾਲ-ਧਨ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਮੰਗੀਏ।
22 Previously we had told the king that our God takes care of all those who truly trust in him, but that he becomes very angry with those who refuse to obey him. So I would have been ashamed if I had asked the king to send soldiers and men riding on horses to protect us from our enemies while we were traveling along the road.
੨੨ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਤੋਂ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਘੋੜ ਸਵਾਰ ਨਾ ਮੰਗੇ ਕਿ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਸਾਡੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ, “ਸਾਡੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਭਲਿਆਈ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਬਲ ਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।”
23 So we (fasted/abstained from eating food) and requested God to protect us, and he (answered our prayers/did what we requested.)
੨੩ਅਸੀਂ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਲਈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਸੁਣੀ।
24 I chose twelve of the leaders of the priests, Sherebiah and Hashabiah and ten of their relatives.
੨੪ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜਾਜਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸ਼ੇਰੇਬਯਾਹ, ਹਸ਼ਬਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ
25 I appointed them to supervise carrying to Jerusalem the gifts of silver and gold and the other valuable items that the king and his advisors and other officials, and the Israeli people [who were living in Babylonia], had contributed for the temple of our God.
੨੫ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਚਾਂਦੀ, ਸੋਨਾ ਤੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਭਵਨ ਲਈ ਰਾਜਾ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੰਤਰੀਆਂ, ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਉੱਥੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ ਭੇਟ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ, ਮੈਂ ਤੋਲ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
26 As I gave these various items to those priests, I weighed each of the items. This was the total: 25 tons of silver, 100 items made from silver that altogether weighed 7,500 pounds, (7,500 pounds/3,400 kg.) of gold,
੨੬ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਈ ਟਨ ਚਾਂਦੀ, ਸੱਤਰ ਕਿੱਲੋ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸੱਤ ਸੌ ਸੋਨਾ,
27 20 gold bowls that altogether weighed (19 pounds/8.6 kg.), and two items made of polished bronze that were as valuable as ones made of gold.
੨੭ਨਾਲੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਵੀਹ ਕਟੋਰਦਾਨ, ਅੱਠ ਕਿੱਲੋ ਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਚਮਕਦੇ ਖ਼ਾਲਸ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਜੋ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਬਹੁਮੁੱਲੇ ਸਨ, ਤੋਲ ਕੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
28 I said to those priests, “You belong to Yahweh, the God whom our ancestors (worshiped/also belonged to), and these valuable things also belong to him. The people themselves gave these things to be offerings to Yahweh (voluntarily/because they wanted to).
੨੮ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਲਈ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋਵੋ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਤੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਭੇਟ ਹੈ।
29 So guard them carefully, and [when we arrive] in Jerusalem, weigh them in the presence of the priests, the descendants of Levi [who will help the priests], and the other Israeli leaders there. They will then put them in the storerooms in the new temple.”
੨੯ਚੌਕਸ ਰਹੋ! ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਜਾਜਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਲੇਵੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਭਵਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੋਠੜੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੋਲ ਕੇ ਨਾ ਦਿਓ, ਤਦ ਤੱਕ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰੋ।
30 So the priests and [other] descendants of Levi took from me all the gifts of silver and gold and the other valuable items, in order to carry them to the temple in Jerusalem.
੩੦ਤਦ ਜਾਜਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਲੇਵੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੋਨੇ, ਚਾਂਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਂਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੋਲ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਭਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਾ ਦੇਣ।
31 On April 19, we left the Ahava Canal and started to travel to Jerusalem. Our God took care of us, and while we traveled, he prevented our enemies and bandits from (ambushing us/suddenly attacking us).

32 After we arrived in Jerusalem, we rested for three days.

33 Then on the fourth/next day we went to the temple. There the silver and gold and the other items were weighed and given to the priest Meremoth, the son of Uriah. Eleazar the son of Phinehas and two descendants of Levi, Jozabad the son of Jeshua and Noadiah the son of Binnui, were with him.
੩੩ਅਤੇ ਚੌਥੇ ਦਿਨ ਉਹ ਚਾਂਦੀ, ਸੋਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਭਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਊਰਿੱਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਮਰੇਮੋਥ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੋਲ ਕੇ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਫ਼ੀਨਹਾਸ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਲਆਜ਼ਾਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਲੇਵੀ ਸਨ - ਯੇਸ਼ੂਆ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੋਜ਼ਾਬਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਬਿੰਨੂਈ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੋਅਦਯਾਹ।
34 They counted everything, and wrote down how much they weighed, and wrote [a description of] each item.
੩੪ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਣ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੋਲ ਕੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਤੋਲ ਉਸੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਿਖ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
35 We who had returned from Babylonia offered to God sacrifices on the altar. We offered twelve bulls for all us Israeli people. We also offered 96 rams and 27 lambs. We also sacrificed twelve goats [to atone] for the sins that all the people had committed. These were all completely burned on the altar.
੩੫ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਮੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਹੋਮ ਬਲੀਆਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈਆਂ। ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਹਿੜੇ, ਛਿਆਨਵੇਂ ਭੇਡੂ, ਸਤੱਤਰ ਲੇਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਬਲੀ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਬੱਕਰੇ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਹੋਮ ਬਲੀ ਸਨ।
36 Some of us who returned [from Babylonia] took to the governors and other officials of the province west of the [Euphrates] River the letter that the king had given to us. [After they read the letter, ] they did all [that they were able to do] for us Israeli people and for the temple of God.
੩੬ਤਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਿਆ ਪਾਰ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਭਵਨ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
