Ezra 10
1 While I was kneeling down in front of the temple and praying and crying, I was confessing [the sins that the Israeli people had committed]. Many people, men and women and children, gathered around me and also cried very much.
Trong lúc E-xơ-ra cầu nguyện như vậy, vừa khóc vừa xưng tội và sấp mình xuống trước đền của Ðức Chúa Trời, thì có một đám dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, người nam và nữ rất đông, nhóm hiệp xung quanh người; chúng cũng khóc nứt nở.
2 Then Shecaniah, the son of Jehiel from the clan of Elam, said this to me: “We have disobeyed God. [Some of] us have married women who are not Israelis. But we can still confidently expect [Yahweh to be merciful to] us Israeli people.
Sê-ca-nia, con trai Giê-hi-ên, cháu của Ê-lam, bèn nói cùng E-xơ-ra rằng: Chúng ta phạm tội với Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta mà cưới những người nữ ngoại thuộc các dân tộc của xứ; nhưng dầu đã làm vậy, hãy còn hi vọng cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.
3 We will do what you, and the others who have an awesome respect for what our God has commanded, tell us to do. We will do what God told us in his laws. We will make an agreement with our God, saying that we will divorce our wives who are not Israelis, and we will send them away with their children.
Vậy bây giờ, ta hãy lập giao ước với Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta, đuổi hết thảy những người nữ kia và các con cái của họ đã sanh ra, y như lời chỉ giáo của chúa tôi và của các người có lòng kính sợ điều răn của Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta; khá làm điều ấy theo luật pháp.
4 (It is your responsibility to/Because you are our leader, you must) [tell us what to do]. So get up, and be courageous, and do [what is necessary]. We will (support you/tell people to do what you say).”
Ông hãy đứng dậy, vì việc ầy can hệ đến ông, và chúng tôi sẽ giúp đỡ; khá can đảm mà làm.
5 So I stood up and demanded that the leaders of the priests, the [other] descendants of Levi, and all [the other] Israeli people solemnly declare that they would do what Shecaniah said that they should do. So they all solemnly promised to do that.
E-xơ-ra bèn đứng dậy, khiến những thầy tế lễ cả, người Lê-vi, và cả Y-sơ-ra-ên thề rằng mình sẽ làm theo lời ấy. Chúng liền thề.
6 Then I went away from the front of the temple and went to the room where Jehohanan lived. I stayed there that night, but I did not eat or drink anything. I was still sad because some of the Israelis who had returned [from Babylonia] had not faithfully obeyed [God’s laws].
Khi E-xơ-ra đã chổi dậy khỏi trước đền Ðức Chúa Trời, bèn đi vào phòng của Giô-ha-nan, con trai Ê-li-a-síp; người vào đó không ăn bánh và cũng không uống nước, bởi người lấy làm buồn thảm vì cớ tội lỗi của dân đã bị bắt làm phu tù được trở về.
7 Then we sent a message to all [the people in] Jerusalem and [in other towns in] Judah, saying that all those who had returned [from Babylonia] should come to Jerusalem immediately.
Người ta bèn rao truyền khắp xứ Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem, biểu các dân đã bị bắt làm phu tù được trở về nhóm hiệp tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.
8 We said that if any of them did not arrive within three days, the leaders of the people would order that all the property of those people would be taken from them, and that they would no longer be considered to belong to the Israeli people; [they would be considered to be foreigners].
Trong ba ngày, ai không vâng theo lịnh của các quan trưởng và trưởng lão mà đến, thì các tài sản người ấy sẽ bị tịch-phong, và chính người bị truất khỏi hội chúng của dân đã bị bắt làm phu tù được trở về.
9 So within three days, on December 19, all the people of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin gathered in Jerusalem. They were there, sitting in the courtyard in front of the temple. They were trembling because it was raining hard and because they were worried [that they would be punished for what they had done].
Trong ba ngày, các người của Giu-đa và Bên-gia-min đều nhóm lại tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, nhằm ngày hai mươi tháng chín; cả dân sự đều ngồi tại phố ở đằng trước đền của Ðức Chúa Trời, rúng sợ về việc ấy và về cơn mưa lớn.
10 Then I stood up and said to them, “[Some of] you men have committed a very bad sin. You have married women who are not Israelis. By doing that, you have made us Israeli people more guilty [than we were before].
Ðoạn, E-xơ-ra, thầy tế lễ, đứng dậy, và nói rằng: Các ngươi đã phạm tội, cưới vợ ngoại bang, và thêm nhiều lên tội lỗi của Y-sơ-ra-ên.
11 So now you must confess to Yahweh, the God whom your ancestors [worshiped/belonged to], the sin which you have committed, and you must do what he wants. Separate yourselves from the people of other nations and from the women from those nations whom you have married.”
Nhưng bây giờ, khá xưng tội lỗi mình cho Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ các ngươi, và làm đều đẹp ý Ngài: hãy phân cách khỏi các dân tộc của xứ và khỏi những người vợ ngoại bang.
12 The whole group answered, shouting loudly, “Yes, what you have said is right! We will do what you have said.”
Cả hội chúng bèn đáp lớn tiếng rằng: Phải, điều ông đã nói, chúng tôi phải làm theo;
13 But then [one of] them said, “But we are a very large group, and it is raining hard. Also, there are many of us who have committed this bad sin. This is something that we cannot (take care of/handle) in one or two days, and we cannot stand here in this rain.
song dân sự đông; và là nhầm mùa mưa, chúng tôi không có thể nào đứng ngoài; lại điều nầy chẳng phải là việc của một hoặc hai ngày, vì trong việc nầy chúng tôi đã phạm tội nhiều lắm.
14 So allow our leaders to decide for all of us what we should do. Tell everyone who has married a woman who is not Israeli to come at a time that you decide. They should come with the elders and judges from each city. If we do that, our God will stop being angry with us [because of what we have done].”
Vậy, xin các quan trưởng chúng tôi hãy đứng ở đó đặng biện lý cho cả hội chúng; phàm ai trong các thành chúng tôi đã cưới lấy vợ ngoại bang, phải đến theo kỳ nhứt định, với các trưởng lão và quan xét của bổn thành, đặng sắp đặt việc này cho đến chừng đã nguôi cơn giận dữ của Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi.
15 Jonathan the son of Asahel, Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah, Meshullam, and Shabbethai, a descendant of Levi, were the only ones who objected to this.
Chỉ Giô-na-than, con trai của A-sa-ên, và Gia-xi-gia, con trai Tiếc-va, phản cải lời định nầy; và Mê-su-lam cùng Sáp-bê-tai, người Lê-vi, đều giúp cho họ.
16 All the others who had returned from Babylonia said that they would do it. So I chose leaders of each of the clans, and I wrote down their names. On December 29, these men came and sat down to investigate the matter.
Vậy, những người đã bị bắt làm phu tù được trở về làm theo điều đã nhứ-định. Người ta chọn E-xơ-ra, thầy tế lễ, và mấy trưởng tộc, tùy theo tông tộc mình, hết thảy đều gọi đích danh. Ngày mồng một tháng mười, chúng ngồi đặng tra xét việc nầy.
17 By March 27 of the next year they finished determining which men had married women who were not Israelis.
Ðến ngày mồng một tháng giêng, chúng đã tra xét xong những người có vợ ngoại bang.
18 This is a list of the names of the priests who had married non-Israeli women, and the clans to which they belonged. From the clan of Jeshua and his brothers, who were sons of Jehozadak, there were Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.
Trong dòng thầy tế lễ cũng có thấy những người đã cưới vợ ngoại bang. Trong con cháu Giê-sua, chít của Giô-xa-đác, và trong vòng các anh em người có Ma-a-xê-gia, Ê-li-ê-xe, Gia-ríp, và Ghê-đa-lia.
19 They solemnly promised to divorce their wives, and they each sacrificed a ram to be an offering [to atone] for their sins.
Chúng hứa đuổi vợ mình, và dâng một con chiên đực làm của lễ chuộc lỗi mình.
20 From the clan of Immer there were Hanani and Zebadiah.
Trong con cháu Y-mê có Ha-na-ni và Xê-ba-bia.
21 From the clan of Harim there were Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah.
Trong con cháu Ha-rim có Ma-a-xê-gia, Ê-li, Sê-ma-gia, Giê-hi-ên, và U-xia.
22 From the clan of Pashhur there were Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
Trong con cháu Pha-su-rơ có Ê-li-ô-ê-nai, Ma-a-xê-gia, Ích-ma-ên, Na-tha-na-ên, Giô-xa-bát, và Ê-lê-a-sa.
23 The [other] descendants of Levi [who had married non-Israeli women] were Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (whose other name was Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
Trong người Lê-vi có Giô-xa-bát, Si-mê -i, Kê-la-gia (cũng gọi là Kê-li-ta), Phê-ta-hia, Giu-đa, và Ê-li-ê-xe.
24 There was Eliashib the musician. From the temple guards there were Shallum, Telem, and Uri.
Trong các người ca hát có Ê-li-a-síp; trong những người giữ cửa có Sa-lum, Tê-lem, và U-ri.
25 This is a list of the names of the other Israelis who had married foreign wives: From the clan of Parosh there were Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Hashabiah, and Benaiah.
Trong dân Y-sơ-ra-ên: trong con cháu Pha-rốt có Ra-mia, Y-xia, Manh-ki-gia, Mi-gia-min, Ê-lê-a-sa, Manh-ki-gia, Mi-gia-min, Ê-lê-a-sa, Manh-ki-gia, và Bê-na-gia.
26 From the clan of Elam there were Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah.
Trong con cháu Ê-lam có Mát-ta-nia, Xa-cha-ri, Giê-hi-ên, Áp-đi, Giê-rê-mốt, và Ê-li.
27 From the clan of Zattu there were Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza.
Trong con cháu Xát-tu có Ê-li-a-síp, Mát-ta-nia, Giê-rê-mốt, Xa-bát, và A-xi-xa.
28 From the clan of Bebai there were Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.
Trong con cháu Bê-bai có Giô-ha-nan, Ha-na-nia, Xáp-bai, và Át-lai.
29 From the clan of Bani there were Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal, and Jeremoth.
Trong con cháu Ba-ni có Mê-su-lam, Ma-lúc, A-đa-gia, Gia-sút, Sê-anh, và Ra-mốt.
30 From the clan of Pahath-Moab there were Adna, Kelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh.
Trong con cháu Pha-hát-Mô-áp có Át-na, Kê-lanh, Bê-na-gia, Ma-a-xê-gia, Mát-ta-nia, Bết-sa-lê-ên, Bin-nui, và Ma-na-se.
31 From the clan of Harim there were Eliezer, Ishijah, Malkijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,
Trong con cháu Ha-rim có Ê-li-ê-se, Di-si-gia, Manh-ki-gia, Sê-ma-gia, Si-mê-ôn,
32 Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.
Bên-gia-min, Ma-lúc, và Sê-ma-ri-a.
33 From the clan of Hashum there were Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.
Trong con cháu Ha-sum có Mát-nai, Mát-ta-ta, Xa-bát, Ê-li-phê-lết, Giê-rê-mai, Ma-na-se, và Si-mê -i.
34 From the clan of Bigvai there were Maadai, Amram, Uel,
Trong con cháu Ba-ni có Ma-ê-đai, Am-ram, U-ên,
35 Benaiah, Bedeiah, Keluhi,
Bên-na-gia, Bê-đia, Kê-lu-hu,
36 Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,
Va-nia, Mê-rê-mốt, Ê-li-a-síp,
37 Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasu.
Mát-ta-nia, Mát-tê-nai, Gia-a-sai,
38 From the clan of Binnui there were Shimei,
Ba-ni, Bin-nui, Si-mê -i,
39 Shelemiah, Nathan, Adaiah,
Sê-lê-mia, Na-than, A-đa-gia,
40 Macnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,
Mác-nát-bai, Sa-rai, Sa-rai,
41 Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah,
A-xa-rên, Sê-lê-mia, Sê-ma-ria,
42 Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph.
Sa-lum, A-ma-ria, và Giô-sép.
43 From the clan of Nebo there were Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel, and Benaiah.
Trong con cháu Nê-bô có Giê -i-ên, Ma-ti-thia, Xa-bát, Xê-bi-na, Giát-đai, Giô-ên và Bê-na-gia.
44 Each of those men had married a woman who was not an Israeli. [But immediately] they divorced those women and sent them and their children away.
Hết thảy người ấy đã cưới vợ ngoại bang; và cũng có nhiều người trong bọn ấy có vợ đã sanh đẻ con.
