Ezekiel 23
1 Yahweh said to me,
Het woord van Jahweh werd tot mij gericht:
2 “You human, [listen to this parable about Jerusalem and Samaria]. Once there were two women, daughters of the same mother.
Mensenkind, er waren eens twee vrouwen, dochters van dezelfde moeder.
3 They lived in Egypt. And from the time that they were young women, they became prostitutes. In that land, [men] fondled their breasts and caressed their bosoms [DOU].
Toen ze nog jong waren, pleegden ze al ontucht in Egypte; daar bevoelde men haar borsten, daar werden haar meisjesborsten betast.
4 The older [sister] was Oholah, and her [younger] sister was Oholibah. [It was as though] they became my [wives. Later] they gave birth to sons and daughters. Oholah represents Samaria, and Oholibah represents Jerusalem.
De oudste heette Ohola, haar zuster Oholiba. Zij werden de mijnen, en schonken Mij zonen en dochters. Samaria werd Ohola, Jerusalem Oholiba genoemd.
5 Oholah acted like a prostitute while she was [still] my wife. She desired to have sex with those she loved—soldiers from Assyria.
Ohola begon achter mijn rug ontuchtig te worden: zij hunkerde naar haar minnaars, naar Assjoer, de hovelingen
6 [Some of them] were army officers and commanders. They wore [beautiful] blue [uniforms. They were] all handsome young men. Some of them rode horses.
in purper gekleed; naar landvoogden en stadhouders, allemaal knappe jonge mannen, ruiters, hoog op hun paarden.
7 She acted like a prostitute toward all the important Assyrian officials, and became unacceptable to me by worshiping all the idols of the men she wanted to have sex with.
Met hen allen, de keur van de zonen van Assjoer, bedreef zij haar ontucht, en zij onteerde zich aan de gruwelbeelden van allen naar wie ze hunkerde.
8 When she was a young woman in Egypt, she started being a prostitute, and [young] men caressed her breasts and had sex with her; and when she became older, she did not quit acting like a prostitute.
Maar ook haar ontucht met de Egyptenaren gaf ze niet op; want die hadden al met haar geslapen, toen ze nog jong was; die hadden haar meisjesborsten betast, en aan haar hun lusten bevredigd.
9 So I allowed the Assyrian soldiers, whom she wanted to have sex with, to capture her.
Daarom heb Ik haar overgeleverd in de macht van haar minnaars, in de macht van de zonen van Assjoer, naar wie ze verlangd had.
10 They stripped all her clothes off her. They took away her sons and daughters. And then they killed her with a sword. [Other] women started talking about what had happened to her, about how she had been punished.
Die hebben haar schaamte ontbloot, haar zonen en dochters meegenomen, en haarzelf met het zwaard afgemaakt, zodat ze berucht werd bij de vrouwen. Zo voltrok men haar vonnis.
11 [younger] sister Oholibah saw those [that happened to Oholah], but she was a prostitute, and she desired to have sex with men more than [older] sister had desired.
Ofschoon haar zuster Oholiba het gezien had, toonde ze haar lust nog brutaler, en was haar ontucht nog erger dan die van haar zuster.
12 Oholibah [also] wanted to have sex with the Assyrian soldiers. [Some of them were] army officers and commanders. [They all] wore beautiful blue uniforms. They were all handsome young men. [Some of] them rode horses.
Ze hunkerde naar de zonen van Assjoer, de landvoogden en stadhouders, de hovelingen in volle wapenrusting gekleed, naar de ruiters, hoog op hun paarden: allemaal knappe jonge mannen.
13 I saw what she did that caused her to became unacceptable to me, just like [older] sister.
En Ik zag dat ze onteerd werd, dat beiden zich eender gedroegen.
14 But she did [even] worse things. She saw drawings of men from Babylonia on the walls, painted in red.
Maar zij ging in haar ontucht nog verder, toen ze mannen op de wand gegrift zag: afbeeldingen van Chaldeën met menie getekend,
15 The [in the drawings] had belts around their waists and long turbans on their heads. They all resembled officers from Babylonia [DOU] [who rode in chariots].
met een gordel om hun middel, met overhangende mutsen op het hoofd, die allen op ridders geleken: zo zagen de zonen van Babel eruit, wier geboorteland Chaldea is.
16 As soon as she saw those drawings, she wanted to have sex with those men, and she sent messages to them in Babylonia.
Toen ze dat had gezien, begon ze ook naar hèn te hunkeren, en zond ze boden naar hen toe, naar Chaldea.
17 Then the soldiers from Babylonia came to her, they lay in bed with her, and they had sex with her. Then she became disgusted with them and turned away from them.
Toen kwamen de zonen van Babel om met haar gemeenschap te houden; ze onteerden haar door hun wellust, maar toen ze onteerd was kreeg ze een afkeer van hen.
18 But when she continued to openly/boldly act like a prostitute [DOU], I became disgusted with her, and I rejected her like I had rejected [older] sister.
Nu hing ze openlijk de deerne uit, en ontblootte haar schaamte; Ik walgde van haar, zoals Ik ook van haar zuster gewalgd had.
19 But she became even more immoral, as she remembered when she was a young woman who was a prostitute in Egypt.
Talloze malen pleegde ze ontucht, denkend aan de dagen van haar jeugd, toen ze in Egypte al ontucht bedreef;
20 There she wanted to have sex with those who loved her, whose genitals were [very long], like [SIM] those of donkeys, and whose sexual emissions were huge, [like] those of horses.
en ze verlangde naar hun zwelgers, die heet zijn als ezels en driftig als hengsten.
21 So she desired to be immoral like she was when she was young, when men in Egypt caressed her bosom and fondled her breasts.”
Zo hebt ge volhard in de ontucht van uw jeugd, toen de Egyptenaren uw borsten bevoelden, uw meisjesborsten betastten.
22 “[represents you people of Jerusalem]. Therefore, this is what [I], Yahweh the Lord say: ‘I will cause those [soldiers] who loved you but whom you turned away from because you became disgusted with them, to be angry with you. I will cause them to come and attack you from every side—
Daarom Oholiba, dit zegt Jahweh, de Heer: Let op! De minnaars, van wie ge een afkeer hebt, hits Ik tegen u op; van alle kanten breng Ik ze naar u toe:
23 soldiers from Babylon and all the other places in Babylonia, [their allies] from Pekod and Shoa and [regions], and all the army of Assyria. [Yes], all of them are handsome young men, army officers and commanders, officers who ride in chariots, all riding on horses.
de zonen van Babel en alle Chaldeën, Pekoed en Sjóa en Kóa en alle zonen van Assjoer met hen: knappe jonge mannen, allemaal landvoogden en stadhouders, ridders en hovelingen, allemaal hoog op hun paarden.
24 Their huge army will attack you with weapons, riding in chariots and pulling wagons [that will carry their army supplies]. They will surround you, carrying large and small shields, and wearing helmets. I will allow them to capture you and punish you in the way that they [always] [their enemies].
Met ratelende wagens en wielen en met geweldige drommen komen ze naar u toe; met schild, rondas en helm stellen ze zich tegen u op. Ik zal hun het rechtsgeding voorleggen, en door hun eigen vonnis zullen ze u richten.
25 Because I am very angry with you, I will cause them to act [very] furiously toward you. They will cut off your noses and your ears. Then, those who are still alive, they will kill with their swords. They will take away your sons and daughters, and a fire will burn up those who remain alive.
Zo zal Ik u mijn jaloezie laten voelen! Ze zullen u kwaadaardig behandelen; uw neus en oren snijden ze af, en wat er van u overblijft, wordt neergesabeld; uw zonen en dochters nemen ze mee, en wat er van u overblijft, wordt door het vuur verteerd.
26 They will strip off your clothes and your fine jewelry and take them away.
Ze rukken u de kleren van het lijf, en nemen uw sieraden mee.
27 In that way, I will stop all the immoral behavior that began when you became a prostitute in Egypt. You will no longer desire to do those things, or think [what you did in] Egypt.’
Zo zal Ik een eind aan uw ontucht maken, en aan uw wellust sinds de tijd van Egypte; ge zult uw ogen niet meer tot hen opslaan, niet meer terugdenken aan Egypte.
28 This is what [I], Yahweh the Lord say: ‘I am about to allow those whom you hate, those you became disgusted with and turned away from, to capture you.
Want dit zegt Jahweh, de Heer: Zie, Ik geef u over in de macht van hen die ge haat, in de macht van hen, van wie ge afkerig zijt;
29 They will be cruel and take away everything that you have worked hard to acquire. They will leave you completely naked [DOU], and everyone will see that you truly are a prostitute.
die zullen u hun haat laten voelen; ze nemen al uw bezittingen mee, en ze laten u achter, naakt en bloot. Zo wordt uw wellustige schaamte ontbloot, komt uw ontucht en uw wellust aan het licht.
30 It is because of what you have done that you will be punished like that; you have been an immoral prostitute; you have had sex with men of other nations, and you have caused yourselves to become unacceptable to me [worshiping] their idols.
Dat zal men u aandoen om uw ontucht met volken, aan wier gruwelbeelden ge u hebt onteerd.
31 You have behaved [the people of Samaria, who are like] your [older] sister. So I will cause you to be punished [MET] like they were punished.’
Ge hebt het voorbeeld van uw zuster gevolgd: dan geef Ik u ook haar beker in de hand.
32 This is what [I], Yahweh the Lord, say: ‘[You will suffer like people suffer when they drink from a cup a lot of strong alcoholic drink]: [It will be as though] you will drink from the cup that the people of Samaria drank from; a big and tall cup. Because of your drinking what is in that cup, many people will scorn you and make fun of you because there is a lot of liquid in that cup.
Dit zegt Jahweh, de Heer: De beker van uw zuster zult ge drinken, de diepe en wijde, die zóveel kan bevatten, die vol is van kommer en wee.
33 When you become very drunk, you will become very sad, [drinking what is in] that cup [MTY] will cause you to become ruined and deserted, like what happened [MET] to [the people of] Samaria, [who are like] [MET] your sister.
Een beker van ontzetting en verdelging is de beker van uw zuster Samaria;
34 You will drink all the liquid that is in that cup; then you will break that cup into pieces [use those pieces to] gash/cut your [because you will be very sad].’ [That will surely happen because] I, Yahweh, have said it.
ge zult hem drinken en uitslurpen, en op zijn scherven zult ge knagen. Ge zult u de borsten openrijten, het mikpunt zijn van spot en hoon, want Ik heb gesproken, zegt Jahweh, de Heer!
35 Therefore, this is what [I], Yahweh the Lord, say: ‘Because you have forgotten me and rejected me [IDM], you must be punished for your immoral behavior and for [like] a prostitute.’”
Daarom, zegt Jahweh, de Heer: omdat ge Mij vergeten hebt, en Mij links hebt laten liggen, moet ook gij de straf voor uw ontucht en uw wellust ondervinden.
36 Yahweh said to me, “You human, you must [RHQ] [the people of those two cities represented by] Oholah and Oholibah. You must remind them of their detestable behavior:
Jahweh sprak tot mij: Mensenkind, wilt ge Ohola en Oholiba vonnissen? Wijs haar dan op haar gruwelen.
37 [It is as though the people of those cities] have committed adultery and have murdered [MTY] people. They have been unfaithful to me by [worshiping] idols. They have even sacrificed their own children, who belonged to me, to be food for their idols.
Want zij hebben haar trouw gebroken, en er kleeft bloed aan haar handen; met haar gruwelbeelden hebben zij overspel bedreven, en zelfs de kinderen die ze Mij hadden gebaard, hebben ze hun tot spijs gebracht.
38 They have done [disgraceful things]: They have caused my temple to be an unacceptable place for worship, and have not respected the Sabbath days.
Ook dit nog hebben ze Mij aangedaan: mijn heiligdom hebben ze ontwijd, en mijn sabbatten ontheiligd.
39 On the same day that they sacrificed their children to their idols, they entered my temple, which caused it to be an unacceptable place for worshiping me.
Dezelfde dag dat ze haar kinderen voor de gruwelbeelden offerden, kwamen ze naar mijn heiligdom, om het te ontwijden. Waarachtig, zo hebben ze in mijn huis gehandeld!
40 They sent messages to men [in countries] far away. And when those men arrived, [the women of those two cities] bathed themselves for them, painted their eyebrows, and put on jewelry.
Ja, zelfs stuurden ze om mannen, die van ver moesten komen, en die al kwamen, zodra hun een bode gestuurd werd. Voor hen hebt ge u gebaad, uw ogen geschminkt, uw sieraden aangedaan.
41 They sat on a beautiful couch, with a table in front of it on which they had put incense and [olive] oil that belonged to me.
Ge zijt op uw pronkbed gaan liggen, waarvoor de tafel stond gedekt, waarop ge mijn wierook en olie hebt gezet.
42 Soon there was a noisy crowd around them. Among the crowd there were men from Sheba who had come from the [of Arabia]. They put bracelets on the arms of the [two] sisters and put beautiful crowns on their heads.
Dan zong men voor haar met daverende stem, en bij mannen uit de heffe des volks voegden zich dronkaards uit de woestijn; die deden armbanden om haar polsen, en zetten een prachtige kroon op haar hoofd.
43 Then I said about the woman who had become exhausted by her having sex with many men, ‘Now allow those men to act toward her as though she is a prostitute, because that is all that she is.’
Ik dacht: komen die overspelers nu aan die verlepte hun lust bevredigen; want dat is ze toch?
44 So they had sex [EUP] with those two women, Oholah and Oholibah, like men have sex with prostitutes.
Ja, ze kwamen bij haar, zoals men naar een deerne gaat, zo kwamen zij bij Ohola en Oholiba, de ontuchtige vrouwen.
45 But righteous men will condemn them to be punished, like women who commit adultery and who murder others are punished, because those women commit adultery and they murder [MTY] others.
Maar de rechtschapen mannen, die zullen over haar het vonnis vellen van overspelige vrouwen, en het vonnis van vrouwen, die bloed vergieten; want ze zijn overspelige vrouwen, en er kleeft bloed aan haar handen.
46 So this is what [I], Yahweh the Lord, say: Bring a mob to attack Samaria and Jerusalem, and allow that mob to cause the people of those cities to be terrified, and to rob them.
Want zo spreekt Jahweh, de Heer: Roept tegen haar een volksvergadering bijeen, en levert haar over, om mishandeld en geplunderd te worden.
47 The mob will throw stones at [to kill them]; they will cut them into pieces with their swords, they will kill their sons and daughters, and burn down their houses.
De hele menigte zal haar met keien stenigen, en haar met zwaarden in stukken houwen; haar zonen en dochters zullen ze vermoorden, en haar huizen in brand steken.
48 In that way I will cause them to stop their immoral behavior. It will warn other women to not imitate/do what you people of Jerusalem are doing.
Zo zal Ik de ergernis uit het land doen verdwijnen, en het zal voor alle vrouwen een les zijn, om uw ontuchtig gedrag niet na te volgen.
49 [people of Jerusalem] will be punished for your immoral behavior and for your worshiping idols. Then you will know that I, Yahweh the Lord, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].”
Men zal u uw ontucht laten voelen, en voor de zonden met uw gruwelbeelden zult ge worden gestraft. Zo zult ge erkennen, dat Ik Jahweh ben!
